TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

TDM: SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched, with your mouth full of sand. The salt water is making all the cuts and scrapes on your skin sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean.

There are lights in the distance, but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not - you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all on the more informative end of the scale. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous readers saying they're lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there are the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien.

Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines.

Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[It will only get worse if he ever expands his musical knowledge.

Especially in the case of Mister R. E. O. Speedwagon over there.

Naturally the first question is already one that Jonathan cannot entirely answer however. Look of concern aside, he appears to be faring rather well with what he's got.
] I've managed the name from the local populace, but that's unfortunately where the knowledge ends- I've been told that we're in the city of 'Vandare', in the 'Ryslig' peninsula, but neither Ryslig nor Vandare are names I've ever heard of, even from passing text...

...Considering my prior whereabouts, to wash upon the shore of an unknown land certainly wouldn't be out of the question, [Not to Jonathan-'Anything is possible'-Joestar, certainly,] however...

...I feel we do not share that prior location in common- unless of course, you yourself were aboard a ship before waking here Adam..?

[ Adam frowns. ] I've never heard of it either... [ Not even in Ms. Anathema's New Aquarian magazines, and he feels like if there was a peninsula somewhere full of monsters that the rest of the world didn't know about, it would be mentioned there. ]

No. I was in Tadfield. [ He doesn't clarify where or even what Tadfield is. It's obviously the most important village in all of England-- in all of the world-- so of course Mr. Joestar should know it. ]

Did the people who you talked to tell you about a way to go home?

[Jonathan does not know where Tadfield is. To be fair, he could plausibly fall upon the excuse of it not necessarily existing 'yet'.] Then there is certainly something amiss...

[They will perhaps have to return to that curious matter of how they arrived- death??? Perhaps??- later.]

Only of a way to reach the largest city, [he softly replies from there.] I believe they may not know of a way to leave the country itself- they seem quite anxious about our very presence, so without a doubt would otherwise have told us how to leave.

[Or at least, that would have made sense.]

[ Adam doesn't want to go to the largest city. He wants to go home. He's feeling increasingly upset by every new piece of information he learns, but... somehow, the things that usually happen when he's upset aren't happening.

Not that that's a bad thing, mind. ]

Do you think it's true, the bit about turning into monsters?

[ He only just denounced the demonic part of himself, and claimed humanity as his own. He doesn't want to fall back on that promise so soon. ]

[Of course he wouldn't want to. Jonathan can't think of any young boy who would want to be somewhere unfamiliar and strange if the offer for otherwise were there.

Adam's question is not one he can ignore though, so before he can dwell on those thoughts he is left relatively blindsided by the inability to answer his question.
]

I cannot be certain, [he ultimately answers.] But what may be important in this as well I feel, is the question of what makes one a monster to begin with.

I have seen only a small number of those who seem inhuman here so far- those who indeed, could be considered monsters to some but...

...they were also kind, and courteous. Helpful, without the fear the people here seem to harbour.

There is something more to this I feel, and it would not be right for me to assume a hard answer to that question, nor even the details of what that entails.
