L finds him exasperating, lol. Like, he's sure there must be some kind of redeeming intelligence that Lucas possesses, but he's kind of squirrelly and unpredictable, which he isn't a fan of. He's also obnoxious as hell on the network, which can be frustrating, especially when L is trying to deliver yet more important news and information about his very important prison. Ultimately this is CR that L needs because Death Note characters have a way of taking themselves deathly seriously, but goodness knows that L doesn't like being mocked lol.

Saying the way L feels about anyone is difficult. The nicer they are, the harder it is to really put it into words, because he's so bizarre himself. He tends to relate the most positively to the people who are the worst, ironically, which means that he writes off the kind and good people as boring or unauthentic. He's a paranoid, cynical, difficult person to get along with, if only because he's so focused on stimulation instead of social cooperation and forming friendships. Part of this is because of the world he's from (where he never made any lasting relationships and was very career-oriented from the age of like... 5) and part of it is because he's just... off, and emotionally stunted.
I do feel like Waldo could be really good for him. He's benefited from seeing decent behavior modeled by Oliver, who suggested that L talk to him at the holiday gathering, so I'd definitely like to get more CR and steer it toward ultimately positive (even if that's more like "eventually" since L is so initially broken and off-putting.) Altogether, he does like Waldo, even if he feels like it's a nut he needs to crack before he is able to figure out what makes him truly interesting. He also wants to test just how earnest he is about being willing to sacrifice himself so readily for others, because that's how you treat your friends, right? You push their boundaries and test them until they break under the pressure?
IN ALL SERIOUSNESS I'd really like to try a moderate self-improvement arc for him. Waldo's nice. L thinks so and if there aren't any tricks to his niceness, he'll think so even more.

So the thing is that while L finds AM absolutely despicable, and has a lot of reasons to despise him... it's a complicated kind of hatred. The canon he comes from is full of such weird, broken, ruthless humans, and L in particular harbors a lot of respect and admiration for his enemies. In many cases, more respect and admiration than he holds for his allies. So what that comes down to is a combination of contempt and respect. They've also slept together, and L actually doesn't regret this. L would probably do it again, and honestly, if Light were to disappear again, it would probably be his way of attempting to recapture some semblance of personal balance. He's in bed with his enemy. He respects his enemy. He wants to go toe-to-toe with his enemy in an exciting and complicated way. And AM is pretty formidable, even by L's standards.

L knows Kain well enough to figure that he's pretty much an honest straight shooter; in other words, kind of the opposite of L and his ilk. There's a lot he knows that Kain can do to help him achieve his goals, and he recognizes the importance of making sure that their goals remain the same... which is why it's going to be such a sticky situation when AM officially starts working for him. L is the type of guy who will do anything to get what he wants; he holds a grudge, but honor does not restrict what he's willing to do. For Kain it's not quite like that by L's estimation, which means that if they're going to clash, this is likely where.

The funny thing is, Kain is definitely that honorable person he's shown himself to be... and yet the exact opposite at the same time. He's kept his darker side pretty repressed for the most part... Which reminds me! AM's player and I have been plotting for Kain to do something to AM while he's in monster-jail... back-dated, of course, but I think Kain may in fact let his dark side out a bit to take a bit of revenge.
