TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME: MARCH

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[Daylen watches Jowan's approach bleakly. He's not sure what he's doing, but it's clear he doesn't recognise him at first.

Why would he? He's a monster. The only thing that connects him to his former life is the Circle heraldry rune that marks his left wing. Maybe that's what relaxes him. It's the only thing Daylen himself doesn't find himself repulsed by when he's like this.

Maybe he should be more concerned at how close he'd come to being attacked, but it's Jowan. He's yet to become adept at most of the abilities that arachne posses. Jowan certainly has the potential to be dangerous. He learned that the hard way, but he's been watching his progress carefully and if anything his concern is for his safety over the harm he might cause others. Jowan would be the one more likely to fare badly if it came down to a confrontation with another monster.

He stares up at him as he approaches, pushing himself up onto all fours with some difficulty. His body isn't well designed for standing in any position while he looks like this even once he has managed to recover from the trauma of transformation.]

You look taller.

[He regrets the comment immediately. Of course he looks tall while Daylen is reduced to crawling around on all fours. He isn't the one who's changed.]

Why did you come here?

[Jowan eyes him anxiously as he clambers up.]

Are you sure you should be doing that? It looks like you've lost quite a lot of blood.

[But never mind that, exactly. Jowan actually manages to look a little offended at that question.]

I heard you yelling, of course. I was hardly going to ignore that.

[He steps from foot to foot on his back legs and then crouches until his abdomen is on the ground. Maybe that will encourage Daylen to sit back down. He's never been around for this transformation actually happening before. He only occasionally sees the unhappy aftermath. It's honestly confusing and a little exhausting, worrying this much about Daylen. Daylen's meant to be the smart together one. Now Jowan has to worry about two people at once and it's just a lot. He's not used to this--and that just reminds him what a terrible person he is. Non-terrible people wouldn't be so tired by this. He wishes he'd realised much earlier.]

Do you want to go...back somewhere? The castle, maybe?

I'll be fine. It's not so serious as it looks.

[It's not as though he can stay here. It's all too easy to give into the pain and exhaustion to lie down again though once Jowan does. Taking a little longer to recover will do him no harm. He lowers himself back to the ground, trying not to let the wounds on his forelegs touch the ground too quickly. It still hurts.]

We should go back. It's unfortunate it's so far away.

[He regrets choosing this day to venture into the city, but he'd been hopeful there might be a few days yet before the arrival of the fog. It's a miserable situation. Even so, it is reassuring to have his old friend here with him. Tarnished as their relationship is, Jowan is someone who's been by his side for most of his life and it's comforting not to be alone.]

Thank you for coming. It's good to see you.

[There's a brief pause as Jowan processes the confusing instance of Daylen apparently being glad or at least ok to see him.]

If you're...sure...

[Is he responding to Daylen saying he'll be fine? Is he talking about Daylen's apparent lack of irritation with his presence? Possibly both. He's never going to elucidate it for his friend(?) because that's not important. Getting this bleeding flop-bird back to their safe Circle equivalent is.]

Do you want-- If you'd like, I think I could bring you there. Riding, I mean.

[He's not that much bigger, and Jowan thinks the spider part has to be good for something. Plus, he's faster, as long as Daylen keeps refusing to fly. He doesn't entirely understand that: if Jowan could escape situations so completely he'd use the ability to every chance he got. Maybe that's the difference, though, him running away from his problems and Daylen facing them.]
stumbling: (tilted head)

[Daylen watches Jowan with weary eyes. It doesn't sound comfortable, or even much of a possibility. His feet would drag, surely, and how would he accommodate his wings? He's not sure Jowan is even strong enough to manage him for that distance.]

I think I might be too large for you.

[Worrying his lip with one of his fangs, Jowan considers Daylen and then glances behind himself at his abdomen.]

It would just be a seated piggyback, surely. ...wouldn't it?

[He taps his front legs on the ground, fidgeting.]

I've lifted...things before. [Bodies. Body. He wrapped one in silk during a Fog he'd left eating too long toward. They don't talk about that stuff, though. Jowan wouldn't talk about it even if they did talk about it because he likes to pretend it didn't happen.] I don't know how long I could manage...but probably long enough for you to recover a bit.

[personal profile] stumbling 2017-03-18 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't think he wants to know what "things" might be. His eyes narrow, but he doesn't ask. It's better not to for the moment. They can discuss that later when he's had chance to heal.]

There's no harm in trying it, though you should know the blood loss isn't as serious as it appears.

[It's more than is ideal, but he's lived through worse injuries. Even without healing magic at his disposal he's in no danger.]

[personal profile] worstmage 2017-03-18 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jowan scoffs.]

I'm not entirely inexperienced in judging bloodl...

[And then he trails off because that was a stupid joke to make. It's not the kind of thing he wants to be reminding Daylen about. He doesn't really know anyone he can make jokes like that with so he's not sure where the impulse came from. Exhaustion at always pretending it didn't happen, probably. He makes a small effort to switch the point of it.] Well. We survive a lot, here, don't we. [Nailed it.]

I'm not going to...force anything, I mean, if you'd rather walk I'll...I'll keep watch.
stumbling: (floof face)

You shouldn't joke about blood magic.

[That would be in poor taste from anyone, but from Jowan? He can't believe he has the nerve. His use of blood magic had been what ruined everything for the both of them.

He pushes himself to his feet again, not looking at Jowan.]

I think I'd prefer to walk.
