TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME: MARCH

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[He chokes out a short laugh. It has the rusty sound of an unused thing. He is a man stuck between moments, and when he was headed, it had been an unused thing.

He could tell Bert so many things; wandering all he had been, chasing down Marten, finding him as a man named Eddie Dean. He could tell Bert a story that would take forever and only a night to tell. Of his own self-sealed damnation and what had happened at the top of the Tower.

But Roland is ever Roland.]

Ka happened, as it is wont to. Ka and the Tower.

Oh, aye, I'm sure it was fucking ka that left yeh out to shrivel and dry like a sour prune.

[Bert rolls his eyes. If he weren't simply so pleased to see Roland, he'd threaten to punch the other man.]

I won't hear another damned word about ka, Roland. I am a dead man, and therefor free of it! Your Tower, on the other hand...aye. I believe it'd do this to yeh.

Was it worth it?

[There's no bite or bitterness in Bert's voice, only conversational curiosity. He genuinely wants to know. He'd chased the Tower with Roland, but only because it was his brother's quest. He would have followed Roland if his Dinh had been on the heels of a rabid dog for a decade.]

[He doesn't answer for a few moments. All those who died on the way, all those he'd loved and killed. Only to be struck back to do it all over again. Was it all worth it?]

I don't know.

[It's an odd realization that he doesn't know if it was worth it. He could never cry off, would never. Even if he were to start again knowing all that he does.]

Mayhap it could be.

That is the most profoundly 'Roland' answer I could possibly conceive of.

[Bert just shakes his head, eyeing his brother. Was there ever another man like Roland Deschain? He doubts it. And then he laughs, because what else can he do? Here they are, years and lifetimes apart, alone on some god forsaken beach, and even here and now Roland has no answers to offer him.]

Alright then, what now?

I have found the Tower, gone to the room at the top, and found what was there. I do not have the guns of my fathers, and we are in a strange world between cycles.

[He says nothing for a moment. The last time he had no goal he was 14. This sudden freedom is a foreign thing. And the Tower came at a dear price.]

We head to yonder lights. Find a tavern, have a few beers, and listen. If the people here have need of Gunslingers...

[He motions vaguely. If they need Gunslingers, they are here. If they have no problems requiring them - well he can't conceive of that - they'll figure it out then.]

...right, the important thing I heard in there was 'have beers'. That sounds like an excellent plan, I could use a few beers. And thensome! S'not a very pleasant thing, dying. Leaves a fellow a bit out of sorts!

[The rest...oh Eld's balls. The Tower, the Tower, always the damned and bedeviled Tower. He's followed that path, and it killed him, and that's all well and good. He'd known it would. He'd died for Roland, and that was proper and right and what he'd assumed would be his fate since he could toddle.]

[This whole bit is the big surprise. But Roland had found his Tower, it was over and done with, and he quite likes the idea of simply being regular old White enforcing Gunslingers.]
