TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME: JANUARY

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

Fuck. [The curse is the first word from her mouth once she's regained enough consciousness to have a look around. Her body hurts, her clothes are soaked, and she has no idea where she's at. It's a beach, she's got that. There's been shots fired recently, she recognizes the scent all too well. Her gun? Gone, which makes the situation just fantastic.

After everything she's been through, Ellie is more weary of strangers. It's why she's quiet as she moves through the night, but the sky is dark and the land unfamiliar. A stick catches her foot and causes her to crash back to the sand in an elegant display of grace.]

Great. More sand. It was so delicious the first time. [Sticking out her tongue, she wipes with the back of her hand to try to erase the taste. It isn't horrible, she's had worse, but it's crunching beneath her teeth and that's super distracting.]

[Pamplet smamplet. The monsters had definitely been eye catching, and she'd been careful at first, but it turns out they were just like people, only they looked different. Which was weird, but this place was weird for so many reasons. They had electricity without generators, the city was so crowded, and they had shops that sold everything. Her eyes can't decide what to settle on first, and in the end, she finds herself drawn to an ice cream shop. It really is like all the stories of how the world was before. It's like one of those books where people go back in time. Maybe she had and now she was some super cool hero who had to stop the outbreak from happening. Which is important, but there's ice cream on the other side of the shop window.]

Awwww...man. The thing about having parasites everywhere is that having no money's never been a problem. [The brochures, unread, stick from the back of her pocket. She wasn't hungry before, but now that everything smells so good, she is.

She just has to find Joel. He's probably really untrusting around the monsters, even if nobody's attacking anybody. He'd know about the whole buying ice cream thing.]

Hey, I'm looking for a guy. He's tall, has a beard, and always frowning. You seen him?

[There's no way she can not meet up with him and take advantage of their time here.]

[personal profile] staystrong 2017-01-14 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
That... sounds like a lot of people I've known.

[None of which were here, sadly. Monsters aside, they at least had fresh food and electricity. Speaking of which, Clementine currently has what looks like half a subway sandwich in her hands, several bites already taken from it. She takes another bite now, though her eyes remain on the other girl, calculating.

She doesn't wait to swallow before continuing.]

Won't haff mush luck that way.

notmynature: (What am I going to do with you?)

[personal profile] notmynature 2017-01-14 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
[That looks really good. Like, really good. It'd be understandable if she had to swipe something right? Yeah, yeah, that was bad in the normal world, but her world didn't equip her with cash so screw those rules. But it'd also be kind of hard to steal considering somebody had to scoop the stuff up for you.

Maybe she can earn money with a job or something. She could shoot stuff really well. She was also pretty handy outdoors now. Finding Joel was first, but she could move on to the rest after, including answer the unanswered question of where she is. What place managed to survive so well?

Recently, Ellie has lost a bit of trust, but Clementine looks young, and that helps. So far, the adults had been the main problem.]

Cheery place, huh? [Both hands go to her hips as she thinks.] He doesn't have a sense of humor, so if you told him a joke he'd probably just stare at you or somethin'. If he has a gun, he's probably shot some stuff by now, but mine's missing so his probably is too. Goes by Joel.

[personal profile] staystrong 2017-01-14 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Someone else who should have a gun. Well at least she's prepared, unlike others Clementine has run into around her own age who were still being coddled by some parental figure. Lee had been protective of her, but he'd known the value of teaching her how to defend herself with a firearm all the same.

Having come from a place where fresh bread was incredibly rare, Clementine is wary of any sudden movements to rid her of her feast. She doesn't even remember the last time she'd tasted anything this good.]

Haven't seen him. Though I wasn't looking, so I can't say he isn't here.

[There's no reason for her to start looking for any of the people she'd left behind.]
notmynature: (sure)

[personal profile] notmynature 2017-01-17 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Ellie got lucky and had something good sometimes. Since she'd gotten better at hunting, meat wasn't too rare at least. Joel's been a good shot, too. Still, bread is rare. Incredibly. And the sandwich seems really good.

But she's not about to take from a kid.

Sighing, Ellie shuffles her feet.]
Yeah, guess I was bein' pretty hopeful with that one. [Well, while she waits, she can get some info. Joel isn't the kind to calmly ask questions so this could be the thing that fell to her.]

Hey, how's this place still standin'? With all this food, seems like it'd be attacked a hundred times over by now.
staystrong: (sunset)

[personal profile] staystrong 2017-01-19 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Don't look at me.

[Clementine makes a nod toward one of the pamphlets.]

Maybe the monsters keep them away.

[It would take one monster to fight another monster, right? She hasn't seen a proper barricade or anything like that but it could be any number of things. It's suspicious, certainly, be she can hardly turn down everything this place has to offer after all she's been through. As much as she doesn't want to be part of another crazy community, she's not stupid either.

Of course she's also completely unaware that she and the other girl are talking about different threats.]

[Raynie grunts at "Hey", thinking someone's about to offer her more pamphlets, but her expression softens when it turns out it's a kid who's uniterested in papers.]

Sounds like half the populace here.

[She tilts her head to gesture at a small group of local men – all tall, bearded and frowning. A lot of people here gave her dirty looks since she arrived, but Raynie remains pointedly impressed.]

You're gonna have to be more specific.
notmynature: (Yeah)

[personal profile] notmynature 2017-01-14 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, are there really so many unhappy people here? What's the problem? There's fucking food and electricity everywhere. People should be celebratin'. [That seems to be the common answer. Joel needed new expressions if he wanted to stand out.

Ellie's brown eyes follow Raynie's gesture. Oh yeah, Joel would blend in really well here.]

His name's Joel, and he hasn't learned to like puns yet. [One day.] He's probably lookin' for me too.
atjourneysend: (Default)

[personal profile] atjourneysend 2017-01-14 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Raynie's lips curl into half a smile. They should be celebrating, shouldn't they? This city looks like they have everything they need to live peacefully.]

I guess they don't like strangers very much.

[...because they turn into monsters and eat them, apparently, but Raynie REALLY doesn't feel like bringing it up.]

Sounds like a charming guy. [Heh.] Can't say I've seen someone like that, sorry. Maybe you can leave him a message on one of the billboards. They like their pamphlets here, so I'm sure he'll get it if he's around.
notmynature: (I'm listening)

[personal profile] notmynature 2017-01-17 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, makes two--- a lot of us, but it looks like they have more than enough to share. [Spoil sports.] They're even selling this stuff. Like an actual store. Who the hell has so much food they sell some of it?

[Since the lady is saying 'they', Ellie can only assume she too has just stumbled upon the city and can realize how ridiculous the whole setup is.]

Billboard? No way in hell Joel'll slow down to read, not unless I can write it in really big letters or something. 'Ellie's here, find the ice cream.' [Hey, lady, did you know this place has ice cream?]
atjourneysend: (02)

[personal profile] atjourneysend 2017-01-17 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Raynie raises her eyebrows. Sounds like the kid had it rough; just how bad things have to be to not have a store? No matter how much war has ravaged the country, there were always clever merchants taking advantage of the situation...]

Ice... cream? [Sorry Ellie, they haven't invented it in Vainqueur yet. Raynie moves closer to the window.] You mean that colorful paste?
notmynature: (huh?)

[personal profile] notmynature 2017-01-18 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Instead of complaining, Ellie seems to take everything as fact. She's never known a different world, she had nothing to miss. Her situation was what it was, and in some ways, it wasn't unique to all. Rather than lamenting what she doesn't have there, she's simply amazed at what they have here.

Good-naturedly, Ellie chuckles as she moves to the window.]

It's super rare, right? But it's called ice cream, and it's really cold. I heard if you eat too much, it'll even freeze your brain. That's probably a load a shit, but it had a name: brain freeze. They're pretty brave, sellin' something so dangerous like this.

[She still wants to try it.]
atjourneysend: (13)

[personal profile] atjourneysend 2017-01-19 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
[It doesn't look very dangerous. Or appetizing, to be honest, but Raynie is getting hungry and the kid seems excited about it. She glances back at Ellie.]

Wanna check if the rumors are true?

[She doesn't have any money, but some of locals hand out free stuff just to make them go away. After the hostile welcome and ominous pamphlets, Raynie feels entitled to taking advantage of it a little.

She walks in.]

Hi! We're here for a brain freeze!

[Now the question is whether the employees are the kind to bribe arrivals into leaving, or the kind to kick them out.]

Hgnh. Afraid not, kid.

[Snake in inhaled on his cigar and blew out the acrid smoke above his head. He was there to try and help any newbies that might have arrived to the monster hell. This time it was a young girl looking for a guy who was tall and had a beard. Good choice but it wasn't him.]

What do you mean about parasites and not having any money?
notmynature: (What am I going to do with you?)

[personal profile] notmynature 2017-01-17 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
The infection? [She's not even sure how to answer the question. It's obvious, it's leveled the world.] Took over people's head, makes them look all bumpy eventually. Made most of the good stuff go away?

[Surely he knows. It's ravaged everything.]

You live here, right? You ever seen the other towns? They're all gone. Like, gone gone. [Ellie reaches out, lets the sides of her hands touch before moving them to opposite ends, simulating a flat ground.] Food's what you catch unless you live in the military places, and those place suck pretty hard too. There's no way in hell you can just go and buy ice cream. How'd you keep this place safe for so long?

[Another reason she needs to find Joel before it's not safe. After what's happened recently, he's probably worried about their separation.]
