TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

Well, that was better than him pointing a knife at her. Under such strange circumstances, the last thing she needed to do was draw unnecessary attention to herself by getting into a fight with a stranger who was clearly just as lost and irritable as she was. Not that she particularly cared about his plight beyond noting that they seemed to be in very similar circmstances. Especially once he commented on the sound of a kid.

"...yes. I thought if there was a child playing nearby that the child's parents must be nearby and that perhaps I could question them about this place and how to leave it."

Although no matter how quickly she'd moved, the child eluded her, which made it wonder if it was a spirit instead. Not all of the spirits were strictly benign, after all. It was rare but possible for a human to enter the spirit world, and supposedly one was denied their bending while there.

"I take it you're similarly lost?"

"I'm heading for higher ground," Zelgadis insisted, feeling his ears heating up. He sure as hell was lost, but there was no way he was going to openly admit it. "It'll be easier to map out the coastline counter to the stars an–"

He bit off his words short, that eerie giggling bubbling up from yet another direction. As his head swiveled to the sound, his jaw clenched, swallowing on a burst of irritation that could've led to poor, impulsive decisions. Instead, he shot a scrutinizing glance back at the girl. Was she planning on spending all night hunting it down?

That obnoxious giggling seemed to be endless, and it seemed to come and go in ways that weren't humanly possible. It made her wonder if the "child" was actually some mischievous spirit having some fun at their expense. How annoying. She would have liked to put a stop to it, but her time was probably better spent elsewhere.

Begrudgingly, she had to agree that his plan sounded like a good one. Better than following that ridiculous (and creepy) laughter all night.

"I'll join you. It'll be easier to search for a way out and keep an eye out for potential threats that way."

Not that she was particularly eager to spend much time in his company, but at least he didn't seem like a complete and utter fool.

Zelgadis' mouth twitched. He turned quickly, concealing the growing frown. "Suit yourself," he said, pushing low-hanging branches out of his way and hastening along.

He thought himself unpleasant enough to avoid wanting to follow along on most days, and often, that suited him and his needs. Now, though, he wasn't quite so blue and rock-faced. He couldn't help but wonder if that was part of it, couldn't help but feel a little pleased by it.

After all, he reminded himself, he was human again. At long last...

And actually, he hadn't given himself enough proper time to really bask in that fact; the circumstances surrounding it were too fishy. But now every leaf his fingers grazed was a little blessing once more, and even the feeling of his own clothes on his body was incredibly apparent.

...Oh, yeah. Also, apparently looking safe enough to follow around in the woods at night from a young woman's perspective. That was interesting, too.

Zelgadis glanced over his shoulder. True, she didn't exactly exude pleasantness, but...it was a dark, spooky forest, and nobody really knew what was going on. He could probably afford a little benefit of the doubt and not utterly regret it later, right?

"Who are you, anyway?"

Azula was conscious of the risks of following a strange man, but even without her firebending, she was a capable and acrobatic fighter. Following him was better than wandering on her own when some mischeivous spirit seemed bent on leading her astray. Besides, he wasn't looking at her in a predatory way. He seemed mildly annoyed by her, and even more annoyed with his general circumstances.

"My name is Azula, daughter of Ozai and Ursa, and Crown Princess of the Fire Nation."

It was a formal way of introducing herself, but she felt the need to be very clear about who she was, and who people were messing with. Although as she'd learned...people around here didn't seem to have heard of the Fire Nation.

Royalty, huh. Maybe that was it? That weird, grating, off-putting feeling he'd gotten? But that'd have been extremely unfair to royals he'd met before – one in particular, at least. So that must not've been it.

The scrunched-up look he wore was safe for as long as he was marching in front, and that was a blessing for how unconscious he was of it. Not only the question of bad vibes, but of yet more names of people and places that didn't even tickle the faintest of memories; he'd been operating with the assumption something would, that he'd given himself enough credit in being well-learned about things.

Helluva lot of good that was turning out to be.

"None of that sounds familiar to me," he said at length. "Same as everything else around here."
