TEST DRIVE MEME



Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note: The State of the Game Discussion produced a lot of great suggestions and we now have a post for Plot Suggestions and Monster Questions. The NETWORK VOTE results are in and PRIVATE MESSAGING will be added some time in November. Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look. You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely. Reserve and application dates have been announced. Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample! Sample scenarios: SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town. SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

Lenus nodded. "A guy beat up someone who was just trying to keep his lawn neat for it. Trust me, you want to be careful. People... People aren't quite normal right now, you know? A little bit on the inside as well as the outside. They're still themselves, but they're also..."

He let out an annoyed sigh. "I don't know how to explain it."

Seren glanced again at Lenus. "That why it kinda feels like you wanna hit me when you should be happy to see me at all?" he asked quietly over the sound of their feet crunching over the forest floor.

For a moment, it seemed as though Lenus wasn't going to answer. "Yeah. A lot of things annoy me lately. I'd probably be a little better if it weren't for the laughing. It's getting on my nerves." He'd probably punch whoever it was causing it when he saw them. Even if he wasn't sure he'd know how to stop if he did.

"You're kind of lucky that you managed to get lost here at night. Otherwise I'd probably still be asleep."

He sighed softly, trying not to feel hurt that Lenus didn't seem to want him here at all. Even in the best of circumstances, Lenus wasn't exactly perceptive when it came to other people's feelings. And in fact, that's what Seren was counting on.

The last thing either of them needed right now was unrequited love, right?

"Nocturnal, huh?" he said instead. "Good to know."

"Not by choice. It's kind of difficult to explain that one, but I'm not the only one who's ended up being nocturnal by necessity. It's easier that way for a lot of us." He might understand soon anyway, much as he hated to think it.

"If you need somewhere to stay later on, let me know, okay? I'll try and keep a hold on myself in the meantime."

The edge of the woods was approaching, much to Seren's relief. But something in Lenus's words gave him pause, and he stopped walking to stare at him. "...later on? I'm not stayin' with you now?"

"I need some time to think first." And there were a lot of things he had to think about. "There are these things called computers you can get. We can still talk to each other on there."

Lenus looked away, folding his arms loosely. "There are things I have to get used to first. I'm turning into a monster, you know. I don't even know how many more changes there will be. I want to be sure of that first."

Seren opened his mouth to argue, anger and worry and hurt still rubbing his heart raw. At the last second, he closed it, gritting his teeth together, and brushed past Lenus with his hands curled into fists.

"Got it," he said tightly, walking out of the trees entirely. "I'll just stay outta your way, then. Thanks for the way out."

Lenus hung his head. "I hope you don't end up understanding what I mean," he said quietly. "I really do. You don't deserve it."

He turned and walked away.

He stopped at the soft timbre of Lenus's voice and turned, but Lenus was already gone. All his anger going out of him at once, Seren slumped a bit and allowed the pain and worry he felt to show.

"Lenus..." he sighed, closing his eyes. In the dark of the woods, the shadows laughed at him.
