TEST DRIVE MEME
TEST DRIVE MEME | ||
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Sample scenarios: SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town. |
Re: I have to have a Dipper for every occasion
Name's Link.
[He's not so good at the lying these days, not that he ever really was, but Dipper seemed more curious than angry. So with a resigned sort of expression Link shrugs and opts out of bothering to explain everything. He'll just show him.
The hat comes off first, and the antennae spring forward again, twitching around a bit. Next he kicks his boots off, revealing clawed, spiked and segmented feet. He bounces a little on his heels, and gets to work trying to extricate his arms from his jacket. Since the spines on his arms face backwards, putting the thing on isn't too hard, but taking it off is...Well he's hoping one day to get more than one use out of a jacket. This is not that day however, and after the first few spines punch through and start tearing the fabric Link just lets out a frustrated nrhmmph and flicks his wings open, shredding the jacket from the back and shaking off the remaining scraps in annoyance.
All his cards now on the table, Link looks back over at Dipper, holding his arms out in the most lukewarm 'tada' gesture that has ever been given.]

It's definitely not too unlike things Dipper has seen, but nothing quite like those things at all, either.]
Woah.
[The word comes out as more of a low gasp than anything as he sizes Link up, looking over his appearance for another second or two before straightening back up, tightening his grip on his forearms where they are still crossed over his chest.]
...I'm Dipper.
[He offers, before continuing.]
So you're...some sort of monster, then. A...a fairy?
[Yeah, Gravity Falls does have those right? Just...not quite like this.]
no subject
To give himself something to do he reaches up and puts both his palms against the base of one antenna, then drags them along its length, tilting his head as he goes. He does that a few more times before switching to the other side. Proper hygiene is important, and staying cooped up in his hat always got his feelers covered in lint.]
no subject
He's silent for a beat before he starts questioning Link again.]
..Do the others know about you? You know, those locals?
no subject
They don't like us much in town.
no subject
Listen....I'm sorry about all that, just now. See, uh...back home...there are a lot of things like you. So I...well, I wanted to see for myself.
no subject
You do?
[Link promptly drops into a crouch, his legs folding up underneath him, knees pulled up to his chest. He didn't mean anything by it really, it's just the most comfortable way to stay still these days. His legs don't like being stretched out for so long. In this position, Dipper can probably clearly see Link's newly uncovered back for the first time. His green tunic is ripped where the large wings protrude, and the fabric all around the opening seems to be a dark brown color. Anybody familiar with dried blood would recognize it immediately, but the stain is old and dry. From the ground, Link keeps his eyes steady on dipper, an expectant glimmer lighting them up.]
Do you know how to get me back to normal then?
no subject
Well....not exactly...
no subject
[Link droops a bit, clearly disappointed, but he doesn't spend long wallowing. He sighs and digs at the ground with one clawed toe for a few moments. Then without much of a warning he springs back to his feet. It's not a full jump so he doesn't go flying into the air, but the motion is quick and sudden enough to be startling. His antennae are swiveled towards Dipper again, and his right one taps a little bit at the brim of Dipper's hat.]
That it?
[Link's not a great conversationalist, and all things considered it's probably best if he gets his guest out of here sooner rather than later.]
no subject
Well....yeah, I guess.
[He shrugs a little, feeling a bit bad that he can't actually help Link any. He can't imagine having turned into something like this...ultimately trapped in that new body and unable to change back.]
no subject
[Link's earlier venture into Vandere had actually had a purpose before it was interrupted. His "disguise" as pitiful as it may have been was kind of essential to move about town freely, but now he had another option. Hitch a ride around town with an Actual Human Person. It was perfect.]
no subject
[Dipper takes the money without really thinking about it, glancing down at it for a second before looking back up at Link, cautiously reaching up to pull his hat off of his head.]
O...kay....
no subject
Okay! Now put your hat back on, and get in the circle!
no subject
[Dipper looks up quickly to try and track Link's movements, but he's already up onto the top of his head before he can really get a good look at him. He pauses for a second, glancing back at the ring of mushrooms before slowly putting his hat back on while he walks, still looking up at the underside of the brim.]
What are you hitching a ride on me for?
no subject
You need me to make the circle work!
[There's a little pause, as Link readjusts one final time, pulling one more tuft of hair over his legs like a little blanket.]
Then you're taking me to the candy store!
[Note: This is not a request.]
no subject
There he hesitates, hand tightening around the coins in his hand.]
...Candy store?
no subject
[He can't just resume his errand now that he's all faeried up. The arm spikes alone were enough to put people off, but getting his boots back on was a pretty tricky business. So if he's got an opportunity to hitch a ride back into town with less chance of detection he's gonna take it.
Link feels them stop walking and calls out a quick Ready! before he teleports them back to the park in Vandere in the same flash of blue light and little flowers that took them away the first time.]
no subject
Once they're back, Dipper steps out of the circle, swaying a bit on his feet.]
I don't know where the candy store is, you know. You'll have to point me there.
I rewatched all of Gravity Falls today. I hope you're happy.
[Still, he might have trouble finding it. Link had used quite a few back alley ways when running to the park. And besides! He was a fairy! It was his job to guide you now! Okay but if he was gonna do that he needed a better position.
Abandoning the nest he just so carefully built he scrambles down, squeezing himself under the rim of the baseball cap and settling just behind dipper's ear, little clawed feet bracing against the cartilage. He pulls a lock or two of hair over himself so that basically only his hat is visible, which could totally just be like a leaf or something stuck in Dipper's hair. Totally. In his new spot he speaks over the shell of Dipper's ear, giving it his best stage whisper.]
I'll help you get there.
I AM THRILLED
Alright, fine. So where do I need to go?
[He whispers back, hoping that he'll be able to get through this without a dozen people wondering why he's talking to himself.]
no subject
Through the bushes on the right, then across the street into that alley. Follow it till the first street it crosses, then you take the little slanty road on the right, to that big main street and turn left. It'll be across the street a ways down.
[Yeah that should do it.]
no subject
Mostly because he wonders if they might be creatures in disguise too...]
