Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note: The State of the Game Discussion produced a lot of great suggestions and we now have a post for Plot Suggestions and Monster Questions. The NETWORK VOTE results are in and PRIVATE MESSAGING will be added some time in November. Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look. You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely. Reserve and application dates have been announced. Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample! Sample scenarios: SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town. SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[Ah, a smirker. Reiner knows your type well, sir, and he will counter your silliness with a big, friendly grin.]

Follow me, then.

[He turns and shows his back to Kimbley, starting off through the woods towards the path. He doesn't particularly like how the guy keeps his hands in his pockets, but he still doesn't view him as the remotest threat.]

You just got here, didn't you?

[He thinks he's more dangerous than he actually is at the present time...]

I haven't been here for very long, no.

[And he has, just barely, enough restraint to ask "what are you?" to the stranger. If he were still in Amestris, he'd know what to call him, but since he's not...]

[It's probably a good thing he doesn't, because that would rub Reiner the wrong way, and badly. He's a human, obviously, and there's certainly nothing else going on here. Anything else is strictly in Kimbley's imagination.]

You'll get used to it. It seems like everyone has to get lost in the woods at least once.

[He sounds slightly scornful. Getting lost, what nonsense. The woods are easy to navigate.]

What's your name? I'm Reiner Braun.

Maybe the locals should take greater care to warn about the haunted forest just outside of town.

[He... might be joking? It's not really clear.]

The name's Zolf J Kimbley. Just Kimbley is perfectly fine with me.

The locals won’t pay much attention to us.

[Does Reiner sound a little bitter? Maybe he’s a little bitter.]

 Nice to meet you, Kimbley. If you need a hand with anything while you’re here, just let me know.

So I've noticed. They're not too friendly around strangers, are they?

[He'd say something smart, but he's not going to insult what might be his only ticket out of the forest so there's that.]

A pleasure, Braun. You wouldn't happen to know the way out of the woods, would you?

No, not really.

[It might have something to do with everyone gaining new, weird characteristics and slowly turning into monsters. That'd be enough to put anyone off new people, Reiner thinks.]

[He chuckles a little at Kimbley's request.]

Way ahead of you. I'll take you back to the city.

[It's not like people have ever been particularly friendly around Kimbley. He just has one of those faces, clearly. It has nothing to do with being a mass murderer in the military, naturally.]

I guess I can't blame them. What with all these new visitors showing up unannounced.

[He smirks, tipping his head forward. It's about the closest he comes to expressing gratitude.]

Not too long of a walk, I hope?

[Eh, Kimbley’s not that bad. He reminds Reiner of some of the people he trained with, and he thinks it’s a shame that Jean isn’t around. He and Kimbley would get along.]

Not too far. [He glances over his shoulder and smirks right back.] I’d offer to carry you if you get tired, but that would probably hurt your pride, huh?

[This seems like a good way to end in complete disaster, but hey!]

I don't tire so easily.

[Don't touch him, thanks. He'll be over here trailing at some distance.]

[Reiner snorts, the sound distinctly cow-like, and keeps going. He wasn't going to just run over there and pick him up, but at least now he knows where Kimbley stands.]

Let me know if you need to take a break.

[At... least the tone is somewhat relaxed. Friendly, no, but he's not looking for a fight at the moment.]

Just how big is this forest that needing a break is a concern?

[He tips his head a bit, but doesn't do anything to indicate whether or not he's tired. Truthfully, he doesn't tire out easily just from walking, though his stamina is nowhere near as good as it used to be.]

The way you talk, it sounds like we're going to be walking from Central to South City.

Pretty big. It spreads out in all directions.

[And Reiner has spent many a merry hour tromping through the woods, learning all the secret paths and little hidden areas, delighting in how he only needs to see them once and then he remembers them forever. He'll be better than even Sasha at this survival thing before too much longer.]

I don't know where those places are. [He shrugs good-naturedly.] But it's not like I'm asking you to walk all the way across Wall Maria, no.

[Just his luck that he'd get lost in a gigantic forest.

He also has no idea what the kid is talking about, but he reasons he means the same thing that Kimbley does anyway.]

So long as we're talking a walk that lasts no more than a few hours, I'm fine.
