TEST DRIVE MEME



Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note: The State of the Game Discussion produced a lot of great suggestions and we now have a post for Plot Suggestions and Monster Questions. The NETWORK VOTE results are in and PRIVATE MESSAGING will be added some time in November. Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look. You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely. Reserve and application dates have been announced. Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample! Sample scenarios: SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town. SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

Are you fucking with me?! Stop-- hey! Wait, no!!

[oh god he's being picked up. Why. Why this. Did he shrink? He doesn't like this one bit, he's having traumatic flashbacks to the papoose incident. He is really sick and tired of being restrained]

You put me down!! PUT ME DOWN, MONSTER!

[Eren flails and kicks at Reiner, aiming to punch him in the face. Of course, if Reiner just holds him out at arms length, he'll barely be able to reach. He hasn't felt this helpless in quite some time, and it just makes him struggle more. ]

[For heaven's sake, Eren is fussing and squalling like a wet cat. Reiner picked him up since he seemed so intent on getting in his face! He was helping.]

[Reiner holds him up for a few moments, at arm's length, just looking at him curiously. For all that Eren flails, Reiner just has to move his head from side to side to avoid getting smacked. He flinches a little when Eren calls him a monster, something dark and cold flashing through his eyes, but then he goes back to looking bewildered.]

If I put you down, are you going to settle down? Because if you aren't, I can do this all day.

[Wet cat? Yeah, that's a pretty apt description. Eren is desperately trying to grab a hold of Reiner, to at least scratch his face, but Reiner just moves out of the way, leaving Eren to claw harmlessly at the air. Even his legs aren't long enough to kick Reiner where it counts, and he only manages to tap him on his stupid, brick-hard abs.

Since when was Reiner so big?! He was always larger than Eren, but not THIS much! Was he turning into a Titan completely or something? The bulk, the eyes... it would make sense.

His efforts fruitless, Eren finally stops squirming and looks up at Reiner sullenly from under his bangs.]

Whatever.

[the second Reiner puts him down, he's going to kick him right in the balls. If he can get Reiner to his knees, then he can bash his head in]

[Reiner waits out Eren's little fit, moving out of range of his clawing hands and sighing softly when he kicks him in the stomach. It doesn't hurt, but he doesn't really understand why Eren is doing this. He wonders if Eren is remembering something that he can't.]

[He lifts an eyebrow when Eren goes still, looking down at him quizzically.]

You're going to try and use Annie's moves on me the moment I put you down, aren't you?

[He wasn't born yesterday, buddy.]

[He grits his teeth and tries his best not to glare at Reiner when he answers]

No, I'm not.

[Eren Jaeger is not a good liar, not when the murderous intent in his eyes completely gives him away]

Yeah, you are.

[Don't even try to lie, Eren, it's a lost cause. Reiner smiles faintly, though, and lowers him to the ground. He keeps him at arms length, though, to protect his delicate parts from wrathful kicks.]

Now are you going to tell me what's wrong with you?

[Annie's moves worked really well on people bigger than you, but he wasn't sure if THAT much bigger would make it hard. Reiner always was like a damn rock.

But not for lack of trying. Eren struggles to get close enough to kick Reiner, but the other boy is just too strong for him, weakened as he is by not eating or exercising properly for the past few days. Hell, the MPs barely gave him water to drink in that damn coffin. Finally he just gives up and slumps]

You really don't remember, do you. You blabbed your big secret to me, you moron.

[Reiner deals with Eren's thrashing with a certain, stoic grace and acceptance, keeping him from hurting either himself or Reiner. The poor kid looks worn out, exhausted, and Reiner hopes he stops fussing and acting crazy soon, so he can take him to get something to eat and then let him crash out somewhere and sleep this attitude off.]

My secret?

[What secret? Reiner tilts his head, looking down at Eren with his brow furrowed.]

I don't know what you're talking about.

[There's no way he would have talked to Eren about how he sometimes thinks marrying Krista won't work out, and how he sometimes wonders what it would be like if he married Bertolt instead. No way he would have brought that up.]

[After a few minutes of struggling, Eren just gives up. He's tired, he's not making any progress, and if he really wants to get Reiner, he'll need to save up some energy and then surprise him with a sudden attack. So he falls back on his rear, folding one knee up near his chest to rest his elbow on. His sullen, sulky look only intensifies.

Reiner really was messed up, wasn't he? Was this what Bertolt was talking about when they were going on about the "soldiers and warriors" thing? Reiner really had managed to form these weird separate personalities.

Maybe he had to, to come to terms with what he'd done.

In another world, Eren might be able to not forgive him, but at least move on. But not here, not now, not when the wounds were still so fresh. The sympathy was too deeply buried under the anger. He could never forgive them, any of them, for what they'd done. No matter who made them do it, or why, there was no excuse.

He rolls his eyes]

Sure you don't. "I'm the Armored Titan" doesn't ring a bell for you?

[When Eren folds in on himself and collapses, Reiner crouches down across from him, so they're still at about eye level. Reiner wishes he had some kind of snack that he could offer him, or at least that Eren would stop acting out so they could go get one. Maybe he'll stop being so wrathful when he gets some food in his belly.]

[When Eren makes his accusation, Reiner's eyes go wide, just for a moment, and then his face closes up on itself, becoming cautious and guarded. He crosses his arms over his chest, and glowers, suddenly seeming even bigger than before.]

That's not funny. You shouldn't say things like that.

[The Armored Titan is a monster, one of the two mass murderers of mankind. Reiner would certainly never call himself that.]

[Oh Reiner. It IS funny. Or, well, that might be what he'll think when Eren starts laughing. He covers his face with one hand and laughs into it. But it's not a pleasant, joyful laugh. It's a laugh of frustration, of anger, of disbelief. He laughed because there was nothing else he could do.

Eren was ruthless, but... he can't totally suppress the memories from their training days. Reiner had always been like a big brother to everyone in the 104th. Kind, responsible, always willing to listen and give advice, even if that advice wasn't always the best. THAT was the Reiner here, right now.

And Eren couldn't bring himself to attack that Reiner. His rage, his revenge, it would have to wait until Reiner remembered.

But that didn't mean he was going to be Reiner's friend again. He was still the Armored Titan. He had still been responsible for the deaths of so many... whether he wanted to believe it or not]

You... you're really something else, aren't you. What the hell am I supposed to even do?

[Reiner doesn’t know what Eren’s problem is—and no small part of him doesn’t want to know, afraid of where that path might lead—but he’s glad that he’s calmed down a little. Reiner crosses his ankles and folds himself down into a sitting position across from Eren, pausing to dig around a little in the pocket of his pants. He pulls out a rectangular thing, wrapped in shiny paper, and offers it to Eren.]

Here, eat this. It’s called a candy bar. It’ll make you feel better.

[Reiner smiles a little, eager to answer Eren’s question.]

You find a place to stay, and then get a job. It’s not that bad here. I can help you find one, if you want.
