TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

I read the character name attached to this journal in my inbox and laughed a happy, happy laugh.

[And with a partway-fuller turn and something automatic and quite mistakable for obliviousness:]

Well, if there are sights to be seen, one can hardly help themselves...

[And he takes a couple steps' detour to circle the trunk of a tree, chases a look into the branches...]

And I would have to beg to differ on that point -- after all, no two types of tree are surely quite the same shade of green. Although, I suppose more worth remark are the ones that are not green at all. There have been quite a few shades of orange on our hike...

[His voice is a bit hoarse and bowed-low, as come, he does certainly know to be conscientious out in the wilderness, but he's largely carrying on as a kind of extended joke - son, you did technically just engage in chatting about the sights.]

[Ugh. He doesn't care, he just wants to go home and not feel like he's wearing a gooey meat suit.

He'd roll his eye if he had a pupil. Blah blah blah, trees, blah blah. The irritable groaning coming out of his mouth almost sounds like a hiss.
]

Whatever. Look, don't you think it's a bad idea to meander about so casually in the middle of such unfamiliar surroundings, and... [Oh hey, there's that distant giggling again. NOS's head cocks towards what he thinks is the direction it came from, not making a sound until it fades again.]

... See?

[And all the while 2 remains amused in a - somewhat sorry way. It makes him think a bit of navigating with 1, before the war was over...

That does snap him into neutrality, the return of the giggling - slowly looks after the sound, as well, scanning, and... It fades.

Faces NOS again. Small nod.]

Well, one must stay prepared, naturally... [Another quick glance out between the trees - tohugh he's already relaxed, in every immediate outward sense.] But if you linger on nervousness, you'll exhaust yourself.

[This is a nonspecific "you". Make the best of something if you're content enough with it, step up your game if you're not, and on that note - pauses, lightens, honest question.]

Why -- what more do you suggest we do?

[Huff.] I'm not nervous as such...

[Yeah, he's on edge. His surroundings are unfamiliar, his own body is unfamiliar, his muscles tire when his normal self would still be perfectly optimal.

And he keeps getting the feeling they're being laughed at. He's used to being on the other side of creepy stalking and this is incredibly unsettling, thank you very much.
]

Well... I don't like the idea of wandering randomly. I'd like some kind of indication that we're not going in big circles.

[There go the arms clasping behind his back, turning and narrowing his eye at the wilderness. ] Did you try marking where you've been before I saw you? Even when I scratched gouges in the trees I passed, they would just... vanish. The areas I passed never changed, but...
