Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note: The State of the Game Discussion produced a lot of great suggestions and we now have a post for Plot Suggestions and Monster Questions. The NETWORK VOTE results are in and PRIVATE MESSAGING will be added some time in November. Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look. You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely. Reserve and application dates have been announced. Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample! Sample scenarios: SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town. SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

I was right.

[She smiles, but it doesn't reach her serious eyes; her expression eerily calm, if only to hide the uncertainty deep down. He looks different, but she knows it's him. How could she mistake her wonderful, loving senpai for anyone else?

She looks up at him, really looks at him, taking in each and every feature. His captivating eyes, bright, a golden yellow, just like the shadows of the TV world show her that he's changed drastically during the time he's been here. The cat ears - which, honestly, Rise found endearing - that sat atop his head. She knows that he's different now, but that sheer, drastic difference brings in more questions.

How did this happen? Would this happen to her, too? Was that why those people were avoiding her?

Just thinking about it made a shiver run down her spine, hugging her shoulders as her body shook in both uncertainty and the fact that it was getting rather cold.

But she did have something to tell him. She understood why he was hiding from her. She would have done the same.]

Senpai, I won't hide or run away. [She pauses, recollecting herself before reaching out to him, placing her hand on his shoulder.] I'd never hate you for this. So you don't have to worry, okay?

. . .Though I'd really like to hear the story later, after you tell me what's going on. Since I'm still kind of lost.

[He can see her shaking. If she freezing? Or that might be fear. Her words are calming, as the ears become flat for a few seconds.]

It's a long one, so we'll need to find a place to talk. But you're getting cold. Here. Let me.

[With perhaps an overly dramatic woosh, the rest of the cloak is removed in one clean motion and he drapes it around her, the long, dark fabric trailing behind her.

Now Rise can see everything new about him; the bumps she might have felt where a giant part of wings which were hug around his neck, almost like a cape, nearly touching the floor. The fur on his hands extended to his elbows, and his legs were the same. Fur around his neck, looking like a clasp for his cape-like wings. Then the fluffy-scorpion-like tail behind him that had been folded around his legs uncurled, before moving behind him, swishing both sharp ends back and forth. He'd gain a few inches in height, slightly surpassing Kanji's previous mark, and gained some more muscle definition to him.]

There's a general store close by that won't mind us...

[...Oh, and despite the cold weather, he has no shirt. Probably due to the wings making hard to shop with.]

[Her eyes widen in clear surprise when he covers her with the cloak, finally able to see the rest of him in clear view. Even though she's certainly shocked at how different he looks, she was honest with him. She wouldn't hate him just because of this.

She finds herself silent, unable to say anything at first -- maybe it's due to the shock that just hit her in the face like a stack of bricks, or perhaps it's something else. She can't tell; there's just too many emotions muddled up into one as she looks up at him, curiously, before glancing down at the floor, silent as she grabs onto the cloak, pulling it closer to her body before nodding.]

Mm, let's go.

[A pause, as she manages to lift her head to actually look at him again properly, though it's obvious that she's not sure where to look, which is why her gaze shifts every few seconds.]

Are you sure you won't be cold, senpai?

 > No I'll be fine
- The cold never bothered me anyway
- I'm sexy when I'm shirtless.

[He can see her eyes looking at him, and he tries his best to put that aside. Rise had said she wouldn't run away, that was more than enough for him to put all his faith in her. He grins, giving her a thumbs up.]

I'll be fine. The Fur acts like a coat.

[He carefully adjust the cloak so she wouldn't trip over it.]

There we go. I'll lead the way.

[He quietly takes her to a place close by. When he enters, the couple look surprised to see him, but Rise might notice that they aren't being as hostile as the others. After a bit of talking, he returns, and points to a set of stairs.]

It's on the second floor. Careful on the steps.

If you say so...

[Her voice isn't completely convinced, as there is a tinge of worry in her tone as he adjusts the cloak, making sure the hem isn't reaching too far down so she won't accidentally fall on her face while walking.

But she'll smile nevertheless, signs of relief reaching her features as she begins to follow him, slowly staying behind him just in case something might happen. This place was new, and it was frightening; she couldn't tell if or when someone would attack her, but thankfully, she knew full well that Yu was capable of protecting her -- of protecting them both.

When they arrive at the building, she just watches in awe; these people seemed to be different than the rest in the hospital area where she was last. They didn't seem to ignore him, nor did they seem to be scared of him. If Rise didn't know any better as to who he was, even she'd be frightened. After all, people are scared of things that they don't know, that they don't understand.

But she's soon caught in her thoughts in surprise, gasping slightly as she's taken aback for a quick moment before she dips her head in a nod, shaking it off.]

Right. I'll be careful.

[She'll climb up the stairs slowly, one step at a time, using one of her hands to place itself on something to help her balance; a wall, a rail, whatever's nearby. It wouldn't do her any good to slip up here, especially since she just was in the hospital. She doesn't want to go through that again.]

So... what or where exactly is this place?

[He waits behind her patiently; if she falls downwards, he wants to make sure to catch her. It's only when she's near the door does he walk up to open it with the key was given.]

[The room hadn't been touched since he left, right down the folded piece of clothing that he could no longer wear. Ahh...they'd been waiting for him to come back...he can't help but feel a little guilty now. He'd visit them more often if he could.]

[He sits down on the bed, hearing the metal squeak against his form, leaving a place for Rise to sit next to him.]

The town is called Vandare. We're in...a different world entirely, one we barely know. [He looks at her.] You were... in the hospital, weren't you? Do you have cuts and bruises on your body?

Wait, wait! Hoooold up a second, senpai! You're saying that we're in another world? Again?

[She waves her hands frantically in clear distress, still on her feet for a good second before she stomps her way towards the bed, hands clenched into fists because now she's a little more than concerned and the fact that she's hearing information that she wanted, but didn't want to be confirmed is a little more discomforting.

But she stops flailing for a good second or two as her eyes narrows at his question.]

. . . You didn't see them, did you?

[The scars, she means. That is why he's asking, right?]

[He nods, rather serious considering how he usually acts. Normally he would have cracked a joke there but...]

I had them when I showed up too. Claws all over my back. Naoto, Yukiko, Kanji also had them. And then we...

[He opens his wings for a brief second, as the bed groans from the pressure of his movement.]

We all started to change last month. During...fog. [But then he quickly adds.] And this has nothing to do with Izanami, or anything that happened in our world. It's different entirely. And people from other worlds have been taken in too...for why, we don't know.

[Rise is silent at first, trying to take in all of this information. He had them. And the others that were here – Naoto-kun, Yukiko-senpai, and Kanji-kun – they had them, too. And they began to change, during the fog. The thought of that brought back memories, both good, bad, and utterly terrifying sometimes, but they were her memories nevertheless.

She then sits right next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder.]

So. . . it's going to happen to everyone that comes? This-- [She hesitates, swallowing nervously.] --change?

[His ears slump down, and he gives a small sigh. He wants to comfort her, and make her feel better, but the truth can't be hidden. Especially with something this serious. A wing uncurls, and he places over her shoulder.]

Yeah. So far it's what's been happening. I'd been hoping it was just us... [As much as he liked his friends, he didn't want to wish this on anyone.]

[She can tell how dire the situation is just by the tone of his voice alone. Rise knew all too well that he didn't want to wish this on anyone, and especially not his friends. She felt the same way, so she understood, nodding to show him that.]

I know. At least the others are safe... For now, anyway.

[Rise then looks at her feet, rubbing her hands together nervously. If it was as serious as she thought it might be, then she had to ask. The truth was something she needed to know, and she trusted him.

With a gulp, she decided to ask what was on her mind.]

It's not just... physical changes, is it?

[He wasn't too surprised Rise figured it out that quickly. He wasn't going to attempt to mince words or make it less scary out of respect for her. He wouldn't want to be lied to either.]

No, it's not. [He looked down at his clawed hand again. So easy to tear meat from limb.] It affects our behavior too. What we eat and can't eat. I can't eat anything sweet now, it just tastes...flat. Vegetables don't fill me up. I can only eat meat.

[He looks down again.]

What's more...have you ever watched a few horror movies? Where people turned into creatures have to eat...[It's hard to say, to admit.]...others in order to survive? If we don't...we become berserk. When we do...there's far more damage and harm.

[He puts his head in between his head.]

It's terrible...and so far we don't have any leads on how to stop it. Everyone else on the team was affected. I did my best to stop them. I did my best to stop myself...but in the end...there's nothing we can do to stop the beast inside of us. At least, until we figure out what's causing it.

That's not fair!

[She can't help but slam her hands onto the bedsheets angrily, her knuckles turning white as she tightly clenched her hands into even tighter fists, her expression completely angry and frustrated at the fact that she wasn't here earlier, that she couldn't help him earlier. She could have done something, anything.

But she couldn't; she was unable to. All she could do now was place her hand on his shoulder in a futile attempt to comfort him. She had never felt this useless before -- back home, at least she could be an idol and cheer people on, make people smile. And then when she ran away from that, she could help the investigation team with her Persona. But now. . . all she could do was this.

And it just wasn't enough at times.]

I understand. You know, before, back when I was an idol, I was almost recruited for a role in a monster movie; I read the script once. But to think that it's real. . .

[Her body shivers slightly, causing her to hug her shoulders.]

I'm kind of scared. But... I also want to trust you. You'd never hurt me, right?

It's not. [There's a low growl as he says that, narrowing his eyes.] That's why I want to figure out what's going on...

[The noise stops once he touches her.]

Funny thing about that...they are offering monster roles to us in the movies here...but I don't think I'm cut out for the silver screen.

[He shakes his head softly.]

No. I'd never be able to harm any of you. No matter how bad it gets, I know that, somewhere, deep inside me, there's something that even the most powerful curse can't break. And that's the strength you all give me. [And with that cheesy speech out of the way.] And...as terrible as this form might be at times, there are advantages. [Yu had seen her shivering, so now he carefully places one of his wings around her. The front is as fluffy as the fur on his shoulder.]

That and...you might have competition when it comes to singing.

[Her eyes gleam bright as she clasps her hands together, rather enthusiastic. She doesn't need to hear him to tell that he's displeased, it's clear in his expression.]

I'm with you all the way, Yu-senpai. I want to figure out what's going on with you and the others-- and what might happen to me, too.

[Hearing him say that lets her relax a bit, easing a little. He's not going to hurt me, she tells herself, repeatedly in her head. Of course she should know that. Even if he went berserk or something-- he wouldn't be able to hurt her.]

And what do you mean competition?

I'm glad. I'll take all of our minds together if we're to figure it out.

[Seeing her calm down relaxes him too. Plus it's funny and rather cute to see her reaction to his comment.]

Hmmm...or a backup singer if you prefer? [There's a teasing glint in that feline eye.] I've got the vocal cords of an opera singer now. [As an example, he spontaneously hums a the chorus from one of her songs and...well, sure it's lower sounding, but he sounded like he had years of practice behind him.]

That's even more not fair! In fact, that's totally cheating! Where's a judge when you need one?!

[Even though she's yelling as if she's completely panicking about this, even waving her arms frantically, she's honestly having fun, able to actually talk to him normally regardless of the situation.]

. . . Geez, senpai. Even if you have the vocal chords of an opera singer, it doesn't mean that it'll sound nice with pop music. It actually sounds kind of weird.

I thought we could start something new. But, I might need a teacher, regardless. As does Yukiko.

[A pause.]

Unless we want to put her on trumpet again...

Well, if we are going to start a band, I don't mind teaching, since my music skills are top notch. ... But senpai, aren't you already pretty decent at the guitar? You should be able to at least understand the basics of reading notes on a scale. All you just have to do is transpose that from that to this.

[But she'll add, in regards to the trumpet thing--]

But do they even have trumpets here...?

[He laughs.]

That's right...you haven't gone to Bavan yet. It's about an hour's car drive from here, and while it's still not as advance as our world, there's movies, radio, bands...it feels more like the 1950's.

Well, I guess finding a guitar might be a good step...if we all worked on this, we might end up being popular. [Hey Rise, forget being an idol singer, you could manage and run your own band!]

[She giggles a little, sounding rather pleased with herself.]

Well, we'd also need a keyboard or a piano if we're training vocals.

If we worked on it, though, it'd be a way to make money and have some fun together! It's a win-win. But. . .if we do become a band, what would we name ourselves? The Investigation Scream?

That shouldn't be too hard to find...an Kanji has gotten good with instruments. Really good. It's like he can pick up anything.

[They have this in the bag.]

...I like it. A lot. We need to suggest that to the others.

If he can pick up anything, can we give him a kazoo and let him try playing a song of mine in front of a huge crowd as a solo act?

[She's... joking, of course, considering the fact that her tone is all too light hearted, but that won't stop her from actually doing it if they want to make things interesting for them.

But no.]

Really? I just came up with it out of thin air-- I didn't think it was that amazing!

I don't think he'd take that as a compliment. He's a bit more...temperamental these days. The change has made him easier to anger.

[He says it with a jovial done, so that she also understands he knows that she's kidding, but the rest is all truth.]

Well, that's why you're the best when it comes to anything musically inclined, right?

Aw, really?

[Rise pouts with sheer disappointment, but it soon fades away as she looks at him a little more serious, a little more concerned.]

But. . . will Kanji-kun be okay? If we did make a band, there's the possibility of things going wrong. There's always paparazzi, stalkers, you know. The usual. I don't want someone getting hurt in the process. I mean, I am the best when it comes to anything musical, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be able to stop him if he tries anything violent, you know.
