Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note: The State of the Game Discussion produced a lot of great suggestions and we now have a post for Plot Suggestions and Monster Questions. The NETWORK VOTE results are in and PRIVATE MESSAGING will be added some time in November. Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look. You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely. Reserve and application dates have been announced. Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample! Sample scenarios: SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town. SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[Kuroko doesn't yell when Kairi turns around, but he does take a few steps back, face going pale. She was more normal-looking before she turned around! Taking a quick glance at the rest of her to be sure those are the only surprises, Kuroko tries to compose himself and not... stare.]

I really need to get out of here.

[ She goes from startled and surprised at his reaction to completely embarrassed, and then noticeably horrified. Has he not seen one of the transforming people yet? He can't be a local, there's too many of them, he'd know enough to not give that reaction. Oh man, what if he's visiting from some other city and they don't even know about them there? What if he's new? ]

I'm not going to hurt you. Are you new to Vandare?

[The lovely spidery princess has indeed become the first person he's seen that looks so... well, horrifying. He's not even sure which set of eyes to look at. Kuroko can't help it; he's definitely staring.]

I'm not from here, no. The nurse at the hospital said someone pulled me out of the water before I drowned and brought me here.

[ 'Horrified' is by far the most appropriate emotion for this scenario. Seeing as she doubts the next statement this poor boy wants to hear from a six-eyed spider girl is "that's what happened to me", Kairi swerves from that point in the conversation with all the subtlety of a freight train. ]

...That's been happening a lot. Are you hurt?

[Horrified and wary, though the longer they manage to go without her attacking him, the more he's managing to try and cope and regain at least some of his composure. He pushes his sleeve up, revealing the edge of a bandage that winds around his arm and disappears under his shirt. More of it can be seen peeking from his collar.]

Only scratches, but it feels like something clawed me. I didn't think anything like that would be in water. Ah, and I'm Tetsuya Kuroko.

There's something in the water, I think. But we don't know what it is. You'll be fine.

[ As far as the scratches go, that is. She can't say anything for how he'll be a few weeks from now, when the scratches are healed and gone and he's sprouting claws, or fangs, or his skin is rotting off and the urge to eat human flesh becomes overpowering. That seems like a bad place to take up the explanation. ]

Sorry, my name's Kairi. I think I know what's going on, but it's going to be a long story. Sort of.

You do? Are people found nearly drowned here that often?

[That's a scary thought all on its own. It sounds like she might prefer to move somewhere else besides the sidewalk to talk. How much trust should he put in someone who despite seeming nice, still looks like she's part spider? Was the niceness an act to lure him back to her... nest? Home?

Kuroko feels a little guilty even considering some of this, but there's no denying that the extra eyes and those fangs are more than unnerving. If she suggests going somewhere, maybe he can convince her to stay somewhere out in the open, with plenty of ~~witnesses~~ other people around.]

Sort of?

[ Oh gosh, that's not a good response, and Kairi knows it. ]

I want to say it's something about the shape of the river mouth, but it's more than that. There's something about this place that just... draws people in. It's really complicated.

[ She reaches up to run her claws through her hair, carefully pushing it back. She's mostly gotten the hang of how to use claws without hurting herself or other people, but still has a tendency to forget just how sharp they are. ]

Look, I don't want to scare you. I can tell you what's going on, but you might not believe me.
