TEST DRIVE MEME
TEST DRIVE MEME | ||
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Sample scenarios: SCENARIO ONE: You've just been released from the hospital in Vandare and no one really seems to know what to do with you. The locals offer polite advice but don't seem to want to spend a lot of time with you. You and the other new arrivals stick out like sore thumbs, so perhaps one will spot you wandering about town. |

[He folds his arms with a frown, staring at her before she gestures to her own eyes. Of course, he understands what she means. She's inquiring about his eyes, his...eyes. At least they're not red. Maybe. Not yet. It reminds him too much of what happened to his city.]
It's just...[A sigh. Again, he has to start again.] It's nothing. Well, not really nothing, I know that. I'm kidding. Kidding myself... ["You're turning into a monster, you're going to be like what had happened to those with the sickness at home, you remember, yes, how they had been changed, rearranged, red and white and more pure?", he thinks.] It's happening too soon. Happening, happening, happening...and we can't stop it.
[The momentary anger passes on his face, replaced by a sort of sorrowful resignation. Doomed to forever change, cities, and people, over and over again...]
Isn't that right, Red...?

She sighs and bows her head, turning her palms up in a helpless gesture: I know. It got me too. (She looked like Sybil, this past fog. Like Sybil had looked at the Empty Set, just before the Process took her over completely.)
The hum is laced with siren song now, suggesting calm, be quiet, come closer. It might or might not work now that his change has started; she lifts her head again, watches him closely, gauging his reaction.]

[He nods at the gesture, leaning forward and placing his hands together (the claws tick tack against each other as he does so, which makes him sigh). Her humming is...calming. Whether it's because of the siren's song, or because he finally has something other to focus on than what's happening to him...for once, he's silent. For once, the flow of words has stopped, just for a moment. There's still the occasional jitter of a leg or a tapping of a finger against another (his body doesn't want to stay still, it never does), but it's....better, somehow.]
[Better is always welcome. Always. Anything better than this.]

Maybe it just gets in the way of resenting him. Hey, Red isn't perfect.
She takes a step closer, still giving him his space (she doesn't especially want to get in his space, anyway) but wanting a closer look at those scales. Larger and rougher than her own: reptilian, not piscine, matching his eyes. Another snake monster, then?
She stops humming and mouths, "Too soon?" The timing is about the same as the first group to wash up. A month of nothing, then the fog brought the change on. So what does he mean?]

[The humming stops and he looks back over at her, looking a little surprised that she's now closer...though, with that searching look, he can guess as to what she was looking at. Again, he adjusts his collar, as if somehow he can just cover the signs of his inevitable change and pretend they don't exist.]
[Too soon, she says...or, well, doesn't say. He frowns.]
I just thought...I'm doing research, you see. With some of the others. They're brilliant minds, very brilliant, from their worlds. We are, ah, trying to stop the change, the process as best as we can. With our...efforts.
[A shake of the head.]
I thought we would make a breakthrough, but...so far nothing has happened. And it seems like it's happening faster than I believe...or maybe, I just am not keeping track of time...? It's a possibility.

She withdraws some notepaper and a chewed pencil from her little purse. It's rare to catch Red without something to write with these days.]
It's been a month.

[His eyebrows zoom up at that, his look almost startled, like a deer in headlights. Has it been that long? No, hahaha, it must not have been, the last time he checked only a week and a half, 12 days, to be precise, had passed, and...]
[He never checked it again. He should have checked it. Time flies ever so fast, and doesn't stop to wait for someone like him, mired in a million threads of thought.]
[He lets out a frustrated groan, more at himself than anything else, and buries his face in his hands.]
I...how could I...I didn't...
["I didn't know."]
i am the most serious tagger
It went by fast.
[Cautiously, she reaches out to tap him on the shoulder with a blunted claw. Hey, quit facepalming and read this note.]
i am also a very serious tagger
[He lets out a grumble when she taps him, raising his head just to see what she's wrote, and...]
[Well, he gives her a look which could only be equivalent to "NO SHIT, SHERLOCK".]

Are you going[None of them are going to be "okay", are they... She hurriedly erases that and starts over.]
Let me know if anything happens.
[With the research, with his changes. Either way. Shame about RSDOS not having something so basic as private messages, but she's sure he'll figure out something.]
no subject
[Not because of any friendship concerns, really. Mostly because, well, as mentioned before, she's a constant. The other living person from Cloudbank here.]
[Their previous grievances against each other had to be set aside to deal with the problem now.]
You'll be one of the first...

She nods and puts pencil and paper away. That... seems to cover it, really, but she waits awkwardly for a moment before she makes to leave.]
