TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!
SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.
SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

She rests her forehead against the back of his head and trembles, biting her lip and saying nothing, holding him tight.]

[He closes his eyes, hanging his head slightly and pulling her arm in as close to his chest as he can. And finally, after a few minutes (at least he thinks t's been a few minutes, it could possibly be less, like time really matters right now) he finally manages to choke out:]
I'm sorry.
[For so many things, you have no idea.]
no subject
[She asks in response, her words wobbling as she breathes in.
She doesn't understand-- why he's sorry, why any of this is happening, why she isn't dead. Her clothes are torn, and not by the sea, and she knows she should be, so why is it that she's able to hold him here?
Peko has been the brave one all her life, forced to protect him, but she'd been sure she'd given her all the last time she'd done so. Here, with no answers, she's the one who's afraid, and she can't seem to let him go.]
no subject
We're in another impossibly bullshit situation, that's what. [That's really the only way to put it. Which isn't helpful, and he knows it but the truth is just so utterly fucking bizarre that he feels stupid every time he has to explain it.]
no subject
...Is that... fur?
[Look she's been trying not to freak out about this but there's only so much she can handle about this at once.
bizarre isn't even beginning to cover what Peko's woken up to, and there's so many points of confusion here that she's just going to start with the one that's immediately against her forehead and hands.]
no subject
[He's not sure if it's better or worse to start with this topic as opposed to the island. Probably better? Probably. Less feelsy.]
...yeah. It's fur. I uh... [He clears his throat a little, swallowing the lump that's still there.] That's the most bullshit thing about this situation. Everyone who winds up in this hellhole turns into a monster.
[He's suddenly kind of glad that the moon isn't full enough for him to have dogged out completely. At least he's still recognizable like this and...not as furry as he could be.]
no subject
Well, that's mildly upsetting. She regrets starting with that.]
...I see.
[This is not time to freak out about that. It's not. Her grip on him slacks and she steps back, finally, letting him free.]

[But now that she's let him go, Fuyuhiko finally turns around to face her properly, slowly and hesitantly. Like maybe he's still half expecting her not to actually be there once he's turned. He doesn't trust the fog god as far as he can throw her. For all he knows, this could be a particularly underhanded recruitment dream.]
[But it isn't. One look is all it takes for the last shreds of doubt to disappear. She's definitely here. And from the looks of her close, it's not hard to guess what the last thing that happened to her was. The ocean doesn't leave rips and tears like that.]
[As for himself, he wasn't kidding about the monster thing. He's definitely less human than he used to be. But other than that, she'll probably be glad to note that he seems to be okay.]
Peko, I-- [He was probably about to say something important and poignant here, but instead, his ears perk up in shock.] Wait, what happened to your glasses!?
[Yes, because this was definitely the thing that most needed to be addressed here. Way to go, Fuyuhiko. It's been a year since you've seen her and there's so much you want to tell her, but sure, let's talk about her shitty eyesight instead.]
no subject
Your eye...
[She mutters. So she wasn't able to save it after all-- but at least he's otherwise whole.
Well, whole and a dog. She'd almost seem like she isn't distracted by that fact, if she would stop focusing on his ears.]
...They were lost on the shore.
[Peko admits, lifting her hand to her face on reflex to push up the frames that aren't there. Her hair's a mess, too-- just little glamorous ocean-spa details, is all. But between that, the holes in her clothes, and the tears on her salty, sandy face, she's looking worse for wear than usual.]
feel free to ignore this...........
Don't worry about it. [Those ears aren't just for show, apparently. Mutter or not, he heard that concern about his eye loud and clear. It's probably more than a little insensitive to tell her not to worry about it, but he's to concerned with how she looks right now to think carefully about his words. Those tears in her clothes make it pretty obvious what the last thing she went through was...]
[He grits his teeth, swallowing thickly before grabbing one of Peko's hands in his own. As he turns away from her, he gives her hand a slight tug to try and get her to follow him away from the beach.]
C'mon. There's no point stickin' around here. Let's get where it's safe and get you cleaned up.
[He's only holding her hand because she can't see right now. That's it. Totally. It's not like he still needs assurance that she's actually there or anything. Definitely not that he missed her more than anything. Nope. That's crazy talk.]
n e v e r I needed an excuse to get back to these tbh
Okay.
[She doesn't even ask where 'safe' is, or why he knows where to go. If he says he does, she believes him. She trusts him. And hallucinating or not, he's here.]
...I'm glad you're alive.
[It's more that she wants to thank him for surviving and being there and-- and being here when all she could do is be afraid.
She's glad that it's him she's found.]
yaaaay!
[Why couldn't he have been like a normal werewolf and gotten bigger at night. Then he could carry her to the castle. Which would not only be easier on her, but also make him look super manly and capable. A win-win for everyone.]
[But no, the best he can do is hold her hand. And his hold tightens slightly when she next speaks. He can't help but feel another pang of guilt at that admission. Nekomaru was right...she really would have been disappointed if he'd thrown away his life after she saved it. Why hadn't he cherished it from the start?]
I'm...glad too. [There's more he wants to say, more that he should say but, as usual, he can't bring himself to be so open with his feelings. Some day, though...some day he'll be able to do that. But right now, he has to focus on the fact that his answer really wasn't all that specific, now was it? He can, at least, clarify what he's glad about.] That you're alive, I mean. Not that I'm-- er. [Shit.] I mean, I'm glad I'm alive too but...not as much as I am about you.
[Definitely not looking back now, because he can feel the heat rising in his cheeks.]

She isn't 100% divorced from her ideals now, far from it, but it's because of Hinata that the skies had begun to clear for her.
Peko doesn't protest or assert that anything Fuyuhiko says is strange. She keeps her eyes on him, letting him lead, and though she doesn't let down her guard, she lets him be her sight. She should at least give him that amount of trust.
...Besides, as much as Fuyuhiko isn't proud of his new form, the fact that it's cute and fluffy... is actually kind of comforting to Peko.
Not that she's going to say that out loud.
Ever.
What she does say is--]
...Thank you.
[In an almost breathless voice, smiling at the ground for a moment and swallowing back the emotions that rise at the things he says. Now is not the time to acknowledge the swelling of her heart at the idea that she can be back on the equal ground of friendship with her childhood companion, though god damn if she doesn't feel it.
She doesn't deserve this, but she won't reject it.]
