TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[A woman who looks entirely out of place walks along the very edge of the beach. Her clothes are impeccable, but bring to mind the 19th century, and her gloves and parasol hide any skin from the sun. What looks like a dark colored fox fur lines her neck, and she seems to have (very well-fitting, like maybe they can't actually move) fur bracelets. Her ears are hidden (pinned back) in the fluff of her hair, and the hem of her dress just avoids touching the ground.

It doesn't matter if Ellie runs away. She's left footprints in the beach. Small footprints, clearly not those of a fully grown adult. Justine stops and muses over them for a moment, considering whether she wants to deal with children today. She never wants to deal with children, but they can sometimes prove to be useful.]

You can reveal yourself. There are more dangerous predators than myself out there. [That's... probably not actually as true as she would have people believe, but she's not much of a threat to Ellie. It's men who should fear her the most.]

[She looks like something out of a book, or an illustration on a poster. Justine's presence is noticed, thought not immediately and as she turns to look slightly out from behind the tree that was her shelter she studies her. She's a pretty woman, she seems rich, like people who had money before the world went to hell, a world she never knew. Her design was the completely opposite to the fourteen year old, who was rugged with torn clothes, a heavy coat and hoodie, dirty and stained from travel and conflict, hair messy, face darkened by the sun and eyebrow scared but that image of beauty had never been real to her.

This was a different place obviously, a different time, but she looked human, even if she didn't look like anything Ellie had seen before, but despite how human she looked, the fourteen year old wasn't sure about trust, it was a difficult thing to come by.]

You don't look very dangerous. [The girl replied as she moved halfway out from behind the tree, hand placed against the trunk, caution in her posture and look, eyeing the woman and making sure to keep an eye on her intently, but that didn't mean anything, she knew that. Still, how could she fight or run dressed like that?] And normally people who are dangerous don't go around announcing it.

That would be because I am not. [Lies.] But I do understand your caution.

[The girl is on the cusp of womanhood, which is not nearly as difficult to handle as someone younger, but she looks like little more than a vagabond. Still, she seems like she would be tolerable to deal with if her personality doesn't prove too offensive.]

You are free to explore alone, but tensions are rather high and you may be attacked by a mob. It is safer to follow those of us foreigners who have been here longer. We know where we are least likely to be attacked.

[Justine doesn't move, but she also doesn't act like she's talking about more than just sharing a walk in the park. She remains calm, genial, and polite, but there is no sense of urgency, and her smile remains close-lipped.]

They also deny it.

[Came her reply. Dangerous people where everywhere and she was cautious, perhaps over the top for someone her age, but she was mature beyond her years considering the world she grew up within. Womanhood wasn't even a consideration, not for someone like her, compared to the woman who was so finely dressed and looked like she up and walked out of a novel, a novel Ellie had likely not read. Still, she stepped out from behind the tree completely, her hand staying on the trunk, her green eyes watching her carefully.

Anyone could be a threat, but this wasn't winter that she had left behind, it was warm there, something like summer but with an easy wind pushing with the waves. The heavy coat and hoodie would be too much, but right now it was a rooting comfort.]

Wouldn't be the first time I've been attacked by a mob. [But she had no weapons with her, her pack gone, just the clothes on her back, perhaps swept out to sea with her arrival, she wasn't sure.] How long have you been here?

I am afraid that you must take my assurances of my relative safety on faith, then.

[The girl doesn't seem to have much faith, but she's coming into view, and that's progress. Justine wouldn't have much patience to ease her out if it she was too stubborn about it.]

Six months. [Not that she's been counting or anything...] Some have been here for years. New arrivals come every two months or so. We do our best to find you before the locals. Many of them do not take kindly to our presence.

What is your name, if I may ask?

Not the best odds.

[Faith wasn't her strong point, Justine was sure as hell right about that, but still, she gave a hesitant step forward, still giving the woman a rather large birth of space, not to far but not too close at this point, enough that she feels she has the chance to get out of a situation should something arise, besides, the lady didn't exactly look battle ready. It seemed odd that someone would be there for six months though and still call themselves a foreigner.

But maybe this would never be home for her, just like it was hard to say she even had a home back where she came from. Still, when it came to angry mobs and locals taking issue with strangers, it was another thing that came into the category of knowledge.]

They got something against people? [Came her reply as she walked a little further onto the sand, away from the foliage, at a curve around the other, not really wanting to get too close, her eyes on her face, her body language. She's not trustworthy, she's grown up not to be, the lure of childhood innocence was hardly there, but that is the world she grew up in, even if she was still a little naive.] You tell me first, and I'll think about it.
