TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[When Ellie finally emerges partially from behind the tree, he raises both hands to show that he means no harm. He takes note of the teenager's expression and body language, knowing not to step any closer until she allows him to. But her comment causes him chuckle and his wisps shift with amusement.]

All because I look like a shadowy ghost? [The shade gestures to himself and continues to speak.] I know a lot of people don't like it, but I can fix that.

[He takes a moment to focus on becoming human. Most of the wisps on his body flatten against his body and the others start to form features as color returns to his form. At least now he can express himself and blink, but he still has those glowing eyes and dark aura.]

See?

[The creature raises it's hands and she furrows her brows, watching it intently, not letting it from her sight. Another step out from behind the tree and she's nearly completely see, all be it the one hand and arm that rests against the trunk. Cautious, she has to be cautious, particularly with how the ghost looks at the moment, despite the fact he is giving her space, much needed space when it comes to arriving in a place she doesn't know with no knowledge of how she got there.]

Yeah, I think that's a pretty good reason. [Came her reply, sharp, defensive, because shadowy ghost was the understatement of the year. At this point she'd rather see a clicker, at least she knows how to deal with those things and knows how they work, she can be quiet enough. Sandrath begins his transformation though and she sucks in a breath, taking a slow step back. He might seem a little more human, but the changed seemed human to a point as well.] I see, kinda hard not to.

[Small moments of trust, but she's not getting any closer right now.]

Where's the water?
dominateartimus: (Snobbish)

["Xander" nods in response before tilting his head towards the bag that was currently hanging at this side. He still keeps his hands raised, but one of the tendrils from his back starts to open the bag up.]

It's inside this bag and don't mind the shadow-like tendrils, they're harmless. [A beat.] So, do you want me to toss it to you or rolled across the sand? Since I'm going to assume you don't want me get any closer.

[The man moves towards the bag he carries and suddenly not having hers on her back is an unpleasant feeling. Maybe it all got washed away when she ended up in the ocean, if she ended up in the ocean, whatever it may be. All her belongings, means of defending herself gone, though how could she against someone who looked like a spirit of some kind and despite his appearance unnerving her and her general attitude of distrust, was nothing but friendly. She had met people who seemed friendly before who where monstrous, she didn't trust them, she didn't trust many.

Yet maybe since he looked like a monster he wasn't one inside. It would be hard to tell so she kept her distance.]

Put it on the ground and back away. [Ellie replied as Xander procured the water from the bag with his strange hands, if you could call them that. Fully out from behind the tree, her hand drops to her side and she takes a tentative step forward.] How can you grab stuff with those things anyway?
dominateartimus: (Talking from experience)

[personal profile] dominateartimus 2016-09-11 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Give me a moment to do that. [He raises a finger along with the request, keeping the same calm tone as before. Then he places the bottle on to the sand and takes another moment to pull out the aforementioned towel, setting it down beside it.] That depends on what you mean with your question. How can I grab anything with them when they look like they can pass through anything or how do can they do simple tasks that are better suited for hands? Well, when I'm not intangible or in this form, they're physical. As for the other question, they mostly curl around things and are able to do simple tasks.

[With that done, he takes a couple of steps back and raises both of his hands again. He'll wait of the teenager needs him to back up some more.]

[The salt of the water clings to her skin and hair, it's uncomfortable and she's still damp despite the small breeze of the shoreline, but it's not the first time she's had to walk around in such a state, minus the salt. Watching the creature move away from the bottle of water and towel upon the sand, she keeps a careful eye as she approaches as he moves back, her green gaze not leaving Xander's face, not distracted completely from the wisps of shadow that are apart of him, listening as he describes her open-ended question.

Ellie's brows furrow.]

Curl around things on their own or like you can control them? [Comes her question. He's a strange guy, in looks and she's not used to kindness without a second motive, maybe something worse behind it. As she approaches the items on the ground she crouches down slowly, taking up the towel and draping it over her shoulders before grabbing the bottle of water quickly and standing back up, unscrewing the lid, the following statement quieter.] Thanks.

[She takes a drink and the fresh water rushes through her system, immediately tasting better than the sand that lingered in her mouth. Sloshing it about in her mouth, she spits a bit out onto the ground, trying to get as much sand out from between her teeth as possible, wiping at her lips with the sleeve of her coat.]

What are you anyway?
dominateartimus: (Casual smile)

[personal profile] dominateartimus 2016-09-11 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
They move about on their own, but I can take control when I need to. ["Xander" turns his palms slightly and gives a small shrug. One of the tendrils creep up around his side and waves at Ellie.]

You're welcome. [He nods and gives her a smile.] I hope it helps.

[While Ellie rinses her mouth with water, the shade turns his gaze towards the waves. He thinks about how he should answer the question.]

Would you believe me if I said I was an angel before I was brought here? I know I don't look like it now, but I was human briefly and then the "deities" turned me in to a shade. They happen to be similar to a ghost, but more shadow like.

[The wisps wave at her and she squints her eyes, not really the kind of kid to play along, just watching them cautiously as she takes up the towel from around her shoulders and rubs it over her hair, still messy within the hold her ponytail. A small huff of breath and she begins to dab the salt water off her skin where it is exposed from the heavy nature of her clothes. She's dealt with being damp before for long periods of time, at least the salt is off her skin; for now, though she planned to stay far away from the water.

The man speaks and she looks at him for awhile, face flatlining slightly, a pfft of breath passing between her lips.]

No. [She didn't believe in that kind of thing, she would like to, but she doesn't. Angels, demons, her whole world is full of would be heroes and evils so she doesn't need to believe they exist somewhere else; they are very real. So in short, she doesn't believe he was once an angel, but deities, or whatever, that she could believe. She knew people changed everyday--for the worse.] So what, like an infection?

You just changed over time and became all see-through?
dominateartimus: (Talking plans)

[personal profile] dominateartimus 2016-09-13 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
[The lack of a physical response from Ellie causes the waving tendril to droop and disappear from sight. As for the rest of the shade, he's still in the same spot as before and his attention is still on the water. His hands were no longer up in the air, but inside his pants pockets.

A chuckle slips out when Ellie states that she doesn't believe him. It didn't come as a surprise since he's dealt with his fair share of non-believers and there wasn't anything he could do to prove it otherwise.
]

No, I don't think we've been infected with anything. [Even though there was a recent parasite scare for a few months, there wasn't anything else prior to that to indicate that they had been infected with anything. He lets out a sigh before shaking his head. As he starts to speak again, his tone shifts to one of annoyance.] A powerful being is behind this and they make sure that we change in to something a lot more suitable. They want us to become their pawns and yes, the process is painful for everyone.

[Don't mind him as he looks around for a rock and promptly throws it in to the water, hard. Talking about the "deities" and what they've done always riled him. He wanted revenge but it was always out of his reach, so he had to settle with other things to quell the urge.]

My changes were gradual, but I've known a couple of people who've received everything at once.

[Well now she kind of feels bad, though it was almost amusing that a shadow could seem to have some kind of personality, enough to droop like it did and make her feel like she could have waved back, her brows furrow at it and she clenches her hold slightly around the towel she held, the heat of the current weather starting to get to her with so many layers on considering she was in the middle of a blizzard before waking up in the turning of the surf against the sands of the shore. The man puts his hands into his pockets and she eyes them for a moment, looking to see if he is going to grab anything but he doesn't and slowly but surely the barriers break.

For now.]

But you're still you, or whoever you where before you started to change? [It's a combination between a statement and a question and it comes out slowly because she doesn't really know how to process that at the moment. In her world, you are no longer yourself when you change, when you get bit or breathe in the spores that make people loose themselves. So the man wasn't like this before, he was something different and he changed but still was him. Taking another long drink of the water to fill the silence as she considered it, she pulled the glass bottle away and held to it, a comfortable weight in her hand.] Like, you where this nice guy or something before you turned all ghosty when you got here.

[Another comment, question, caught between as she watches the rock sail into the ocean, taking a few tentative steps forward, near the waters.]

You're not from here then, you arrived like I did.
dominateartimus: (Dark consideration)

[personal profile] dominateartimus 2016-09-14 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. [Sandrath confirms with a nod and takes a moment to brush the sand from his hand on his pant leg. He doesn't mention the various things he had to adjust to since his species change. Most of them were trivial by human standards.]

I was originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota. [A small frown appears on his lips as his tone becomes emotionless. The tendrils on his back start to shift and move with anger.] When I woke up here, I was soaked to the bone, covered in several scratches and bruises. Except I wasn't on the beach. Apparently a fisherman fished me and many others up before dropping us off in the hospital. Don't go in to the hospital looking for answers. It's no longer in use. You'll have better luck at the Lake Dala clinic or in Bavan.

[Even though that would be a hit or miss for infomration. That reminds him to warn her about the state of Vandare.] When you go in to town, avoid the northern section. There was a recent change in the world of politics and the people who are scared of "monsters" and foreigners built a wall to keep us out.

I'm Xander by the way. [He gives her a smile, even if it was a bit forced.]
