TEST DRIVE MEME: JULY

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE

You wake up on a hard cot in an unfamiliar room, still thoroughly drenched from your arrival. There's salt water all over you, stinging your shallow wounds and making every breeze feel like ice against your skin, and before you have time to adjust to the new environment some... thing walks in. Something that used to be human. There's really no other word to describe it - they're a monster, pure and simple.

SCENARIO TWO

So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE

"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Maybe it's the snowcapped and solitary mountain to the north, or the vast and uncaring sea to the south. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR

The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[When Karamatsu first arrived, the thick crowds of people vying for his attention was something he loved. He mistook them for his adoring public, all of them clamoring for just a brief second with him. The strange thing was, though, was that it didn't...stop, really. More and more people in Ryslig at least spoke to him and gave him the time of day, whereas that barely happened back home. Even though the locals weren't all as friendly as they once were, they sure did still give him attention. How could they not, with his horns and claws betraying the fact that he had already begun his descent into changing.

He's usually out when the newcomers start pouring in, keeping his eye out for his siblings. It's such an internal struggle, wanting to see your family, yet never ever wanting them to have to endure the same things he has so far. But if they ever do happen to show, he wants to be the first to find them and make sure they'll be somewhere relatively safe. Even Bavan has its moments, but Vandare? Vandare is a completely different story.

Of course, he's grown to be more self-conscious about how he looks than ever before. He's hyper aware of his new additions, even though he can hide his claws in his pockets or maybe his ears and horns if he had a hat (which he doesn't). It's impossible to mistake the way his eyes and hair are steadily changing from a deep black and brown to a grey-ish blue color.

But even with his eyes peeled, Karamatsu is bound to miss some things. He doesn't catch Todomatsu pushing out of the crowd, doesn't notice that they're about to cross paths until he's literally slammed right into him, nearly knocking his shades off his face in the process. He staggers back, quickly lifting a hand to adjust them as apologies fall from his lips-]

Ah-! Forgive me, I wasn't-

[And...oh.

He wasn't expecting someone he recognized, let alone family.

He's immediately taking a step back to look Todomatsu over, momentarily forgetting how his own appearance is distinctly no longer...Karamatsu.]

T...totty?

[tottally]

K...Karamatsu-niisan?!

[Yeah, you may have forgotten your appearance, but it's not something Todomatsu can overlook easily. He'd straightened himself, aiming to scold whoever ran into him, but seeing something like that? It's not even that big of a change, but he's still taking a few steps back.

That's...he's...]

You're turning into one of those monsters! [Thank you for shouting the obvious Totty.] Y-you have horns! And your ears are ugly like some kind of oni! And your fingers are weird now!

[And that's when he remembers the pamphlets, glancing down at the one that mentions "human flesh" before raising both hands in front of himself.]

D-don't eat me Karamatsu-niisan!! I don't want to be in that kind of scenario with you!

[...well it wouldn't be better if it were any other monster but.]

H-heh?!

[Gee, way to be.....sensitive, Todomatsu.]

Non non non! It- it is okay! I'm not going to eat you!

[And yet, he's gesturing with his claws as he says that, as if that will get Todomatsu to calm down faster.]

[tottally]

Wah--!!! [Those claws look way too sharp, why would you gesture with those Karamatsu? He still looks just as frightened, taking another step back.]

How do I know you aren't lying? You're some kind of ravenous beast now aren't you? That's what all of those people were saying! You monsters eat human flesh and you don't care who it comes from!

[Said as if he is not going to turn into one himself...]

[karappo]

[Okay, he knows this is Totty, and he knows how the youngest can be. But...it still stings, and it results in Karamatsu eyeing his own claws self-consciously before shoving them into his jacket pockets, his heavy brows furrowing past his fringe.]

I am not going to eat my own brother! No matter what I turn into! That is simply not happening!

Now...what can I do to have you trust me?

[Other than...be your brother.]

[tottally]

[Being his brother will never be enough Karamatsu.

But at least that seems to get him to reconsider him...he put his claws away. And he's willing to do something for him to get him to trust him?]

...since you're a monster, you're better for fighting those...things back at that hospital.

[Probably. Even if he's not though all he really needs is a meat shield.]

If you come with me to help me find my phone...

[Well. He's not saying he WILL trust you but he's also not saying he'll never trust you again??]

Things...do you mean the other monsters, or the natives? Because truthfully, I believe those people are more...pushy than anyone else, half the time.

[Of course he's going to stay close to Todomatsu's side no matter what he says. He might not be as strong as a fully changed monster, but...he's getting stronger every day whether he realizes it or not.]
