TEST DRIVE : MAY 2016 EDITIOIN

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.

  • The Reserve date is MAY 20ST 12:01AM EST.
  • There is an Enable Me / App this Plz to see what some people are offering or would love to play.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[ One of the fully transformed is who Lucius turns to. Kaito is bending over to entertain a little human child with some easy sleight of hand: the appearance and disappearance of a coin from various places. It's the best he can do with one arm out of commission, bound with thick bandage and rod that indicates it's been fractured or broken. When he's addressed, the goblin looks up without surprise. The kid gets an absent pat on the head and shooed off to his mother before he turns to respond. ]

Exactly what it says. You're gonna turn into a monster.

[ He's been here almost a year. Kaito's past the point where he phrases such information nicely for newcomers. The older man may be shocked by his blue-tinted skin, the spines jutting from his shoulders and elbows, and the translucent clover in his right eye. His pointed ears hint at what he is but he doesn't at all resemble the goblins Lucius knows.

Fully expecting to be stared at, Kaito simply slips his uninjured hand into his pocket and waits for them to get it over with. ]

[Lucius visibly double-takes, because no, that's not what he was expecting to possibly see when he was faced by who he addressed at all. It wouldn't occur to him to name this figure as a 'goblin' either. Frankly he has no name for what he is looking at.

With a hint of an aggravated twitch, he forces a cold, condescendingly sardonic smile.
]

I see. And by what manner of process, exactly, is it that this supposed feat is accomplished?

[ Facing that cold, condescending attitude with a raised eyebrow, Kaito rattles off the usual explanation. ]

When the Fog God brought us here, she did something to us - infected our blood or something - so that we'd change. I've got no idea how exactly but the fact is that it happens. Blanket of fog rolls in after about a month, triggers some magic or whatever, and then things start growing and changing.

[ Pointing at the pamphlet Lucius holds, he continues, ] Most of the stuff they write in those is crap by the way. You'll want the ones the welcoming committee prints out.

The 'Fog God'. [There's a pause, serving as punctuation on his end to convey his disbelief in that term. Before he repeats, coolly empty:] I see.

[He's attempting to parse this explanation for anything he considers useful...believable, really. Of course he knows magic, and curses. But this isn't the kind of transformation that should be possible outside of a children's tale, and the manner and mechanics in which it is supposed to occur?

Well, it just doesn't make any sense.

He glances down again to the pamphlet in his fist.
]

I can safely assume this business about fur-bearing trout is the part that can be considered unabashed nonsense, I would hope? [There's some humor in his tone, though still far from friendly.] Or next you'll be telling me all about wild herds of Crumple-Horned Snorkacks and Nargle infestations.

[ The man's disbelief is countered with a bland stare. Lucius can sound as incredulous as he likes; Kaito speaks the truth, temptation to give in to an urge to lie and mess with his silly, white head be damned.

...Although it's his turn to give them a weird look, because what the utter hell are crumpet-born snorlaxes and gargles? ]

There's no fur-bearing trout here as far as I can tell, [ he says slowly. ] And no-- whatever it was you just said. Or axehounds. What kinda place are you from that has such weird names for things?

England.

[Completely deadpan. And he lets that sit for a beat, at first, as if it's the only reply he's going to give.

Before:

Though if you've no recognition for what I'm speaking of, then I'd presume you are not part of the organized Wizarding community either.

[ One moment while he silently goes through a round of "Of course he is" and "Are all Englishmen smug gits?" before the second half of Lucius Malfoy's words register.

Kaito blinks, cocks his head, and then decides he may as well get some enjoyment out of this encounter. ]

Probably not the wizarding community you are, no. I'm still a wizard though.

[ He snaps his fingers and a small burst of flame erupts between them. A playing card falls from it into his palm as the fire recedes, singed and smoking: the Ace of Hearts. ]

...Childish parlor tricks.

[He actually sniffs in disdain, this time, and eyes the playing card coldly. No hint of him even cracking a smile.]

Is this the sort of thing that passes for real magic around here? I must say if that's the case, then it throws the story put forth by these leaflets even further into question.
whiteofcrime: (38th illusion (grim smile))

[personal profile] whiteofcrime 2016-05-23 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ Having expected that reaction, he smirks. It's all right - he doesn't need or want this guy's approval. ]

Look at you, assuming it's the only type of magic here. [ He folds his arms loosely to hide the movement of his fingers, which beckon a tease of wind over to stir Lucius' hair. Nothing unusual for now. ] What was yours like then?
