Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.
Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.
Fletcher Tringham | Fullmetal Alchemist
[ At first, Fletcher is just confused about how he ended up in such a strange place. His brother is nowhere in sight and he barely has time to call Russel's name before he's surrounded by several locals who all push pamphlets into his hands. It's hard to say no when their enthusiasm seems to be bordering on desperation. Eventually he takes a nervous step back when someone tries to invite him to stay in their home, to enjoy the local hospitality.
He shakes his head, doing his best to keep a polite smile on his face while holding an armful of pamplets. ]
I... I really shouldn't. I really need to find my brother so we can go home.
[ He runs off before anyone can stop him. He only slowls down once he's away from the strangers and then begins looking at the pamphlets he's managed to gather. Such quality publications as Tips and Tricks for Werewolves: How to get that wet dog smell out and Made in the shade: the guide to being a nymph. ]
What is all this...? Brother, what have you gotten us into now?
[ Because clearly this has to be Russel's fault. Everything strange that happens to him can always be blamed. But, not one to give up so easily, Fletcher heads toward whoever is nearest to him to start trying to track his wayward
idiot brother down. ]Excuse, have you seen my brother? I think we must have gotten really lost...
[ Not that he remembers how he ended wherever here is. ]
no subject
Yup, there he goes!
As Fletcher takes off to escape from the crowds, Ryuk follows at a far more sedate pace. It gives him plenty of time to look over his shiny new pamphlet collection while the ex-shinigami draws close. Probably too close for comfort, by the time Fletcher looks for someone to ask his question of, the black-clad not-exactly-human looking thing is easily within touching distance. And his smile is ever so wide and full of very sharp teeth.]
Aaaaaa, maybe. What's your brother look like?
[His voice is no better, rough and gravelly and raspy and not exactly pleasant. It fits with the rest of him though.]
no subject
H... he's kind of tall and has short blonde hair...
[ Is it rude to ask what someone is? It's probably definitely rude. ]
no subject
But that's not the goal right now and right here, the goal here is entertainment. As Fletcher recoils a bit in obvious shock, somehow the ghoulish figure's smile widens a touch. But there's also no real malice in his bearing or his toothy smile, so ...that might be some tiny comfort. Maybe.
As this tall blond brother is described, Ryuk straightens up and looks around as if expecting said sibling to just be right nearby.]
That's not narrowing it down all that much, kid. .... S' that him?
[One bony finger points, to a passing young man of blond hair and tallish stature who is probably not even remotely related. They don't even look alike!]
no subject
So he shakes his head. ]
No, it isn't. This would be easier if I had a picture of him... I looked for him for a while before those people found me. I'm not sure whether he's anywhere around, honestly.
[ But they were family and he wouldn't stop looking for him. ]
no subject
[Ryuk crosses his arms over his chest in a way he'd seen humans do when being thoughtful but not particularly sure of what to do next. Imitating behavior made him look more like a normal human right?
He stuck out enough as it was without off behavior. Unfortunately for him everything he does seems a little.. off. But he's trying hard! If he just walked away now there probably wouldn't be anything further of interest going on, but if he didn't..]
Aren't you people supposed to go to the police or something when someone's missing? Fill out a little paper and all that?
no subject
She was feeding kittens taking shelter in a hedge. This was very important and couldn't wait for nighttime. They seemed to like her! Or at least the canned fish she was feeding them.
Though speaking of small things, that was also a small child approaching her.]
Does he look like you or more like me?
[Kaede asked, while holding something sardine-like in her claws one of the kittens kept pouncing at.]
no subject
H... he looks more like me...
[ He's never even seen a chimera outside of alchemy textbooks, why would he dream about one feeding cats? ]
no subject
Your best bet would be this city, then. It doesn't hate strangers as much as Vandare does. What's his name?
[The kitten that had been pouncing at the fish finally succeeds in catching it! And idly hisses at its siblings to keep away from its prize even as Kaede scratched its ears.]
no subject
[ Talking to a spider-lady was not how he expected his day to go, but she's being polite so he tries to tamp down the panic in his chest. It won't help him at all and might make her angry. ]
It's Russell... Russell Tringham. I... Um... c-can I ask a question ma'am?
no subject
[She took her eyes off of the kittens, glancing over at the boy at his question.]
What?
no subject
[ It couldn't possibly be natural. But as far as he knows there's no possible way of making a chimera using a human base. Or at least no moral or humane way to make someone like that. ]
I'm sorry if it's rude, but I need to know if these pamphlets I was given are real.
no subject
A mountain spat me out. But a god is what made me look like this to begin with.
[She waved a clawed hand, this time doing nothing to draw attention away from her claws or spines.]
Those pamphlets are mostly useless; a few might be useful, but I don't know anyone who's turned into a fucking trout.
SLAMS INTO
[The one cold comfort of this place is that he came here alone. Yes, he misses home, misses the only family he has left, but he wouldn't ever want Fletcher here. Because that would mean he would go through this horrific experience too, and that he'd be in constant danger from humans and monsters alike. It helps to know his brother is safe at home--]
[--oh no. Oh no.]
[For fuck's sake, Ryslig really does just exist to make his life worse. He wants to run to him, make sure he's okay, keep anyone from dragging him into anything dangerous. But how is he supposed to approach Fletcher when he looks like this?]
[Russell moves towards him, stops, and then starts again. He can only hope that he doesn't freak out at the sight of him. Which is unlikely, but here goes nothing.]
Fletcher!
no subject
When he hears Russell about he jumps, his face lighting up with relief. ]
There you are-
[ That is, until he processes what he's looking at. Pamphlets flutter to the ground, hands come up to cover his mouth. The knot is back and now feels like it's going to never be dislodged. ]
...Russell? [ Oh... what did he do now? ]
no subject
Hey. [He's so glad Fletcher is okay but also six kinds of terrified because if he's here, that means he's one of them now. He'll slowly lose his humanity like the rest of them. Conceal, don't feel, don't freak the fuck out.] How... long have you been here?
[And how is he going to explain the fact that he's literally turning into a rock? Those pamphlets now littering the ground aren't nearly as helpful as you would think.]
The rest of this is a long story.
no subject
By the time Fletcher approaches her, she is all too glad to shift her attention away from the crazy pamphlets. She smiles at the boy, tilting her head in consideration.]
What does your brother look like? I may have seem him.
no subject
He's tall and blonde. Last time I saw him he was wearing a white shirt with suspenders. I just don't know how we could have gotten here. It doesn't look anything like Xenotime...
