TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

• You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
• We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
• Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.


• The Reserve date is MAY 20ST 12:01AM EST.
• There is an Enable Me / App this Plz to see what some people are offering or would love to play.
• Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
• Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[Ryuk's identifiable, even in a world full of monsters. Here, he would fit in better than Light initially did... if he still looked like the monster he was. Even like this, Ryuk looked barely human, and if dragonfly wings were easier to hide, Light would still pass as a human much better than the ex-Shinigami.

Ryuk is without his powers. It's been a month, he knows that some people had been depowered before coming to Ryslig, and now he was seeing it himself. There really were no wings. Would it bother Ryuk, being unable to fly over all the little humans and laugh at their games?

Touching as their reunion is, Light steps back. He now had twice as many as Ryuk had, a black and blue combination shining rather brilliantly in the sun. It could be described as eye-catching, but he doesn't want them to catch the eye.]

I'd prefer you didn't. [Ryuk is someone, maybe the only one, he's been mostly honest with.] I might have joked about wings, but I didn't really want them. It really is strange...

[Light surveys him again.] You still look barely human here.

[applol]

But you got'm anyway so you might as well enjoy them. Fly around, peek in windows.

[Perhaps Light was on his way to becoming a shinigami. As far as Ryuk knew that wasn't how it worked, but if anyone was going to be rewarded the mantle, Light and all his considerable efforts over all that time surely would have made an impression on more than just him.

But probably not. That wouldn't require a whole different world, would it? So they were both tangled up in something even bigger.

He couldn't wait to find out where it led.]

I think I make a pretty good looking human! Look at all this ... muscle, and a nose bump like you got, and these little hair ridges above my eyes and everything!

[There's a pause, and that smile creeps back, twisting black lips.]

But human enough, yeah? No Death Note, now.

[Light would have no use for him anymore! .. If he had one to begin with. What to do, what to do!]

Why would I peek in windows? Ryuk, what kind of activities were you practicing while I slept? [Was his cute Shinigami secretly a pervert?

Being anything other than human really wouldn't be acceptable, but a Shinigami was probably better than a Faerie. His changes had been mostly mild - painful, but mild - but the idea of being a monster, of being a Faerie monster, is still enough to prickle his skin.]

You're so proud of having eyebrows. [The Shinigami always was good at making Light chuckle.] I'd never known you had been so envious all this time.

[The lack of Death Note is something Light assumes before Ryuk even verifies it. But, while Ryuk may not be useful, he could be very dangerous. L is here, and if L got to him, that was one more resource the detective could use against Light.]

Ryuk, please remember that people can hear you now. That isn't something you should talk about so casually. We're not the only ones here.

Isn't that what humans your age do? Go peeking in on people?

[No that's a good ten years younger AND not something Light's probably ever done ANYWAY. Too good a kid, that policeman's son. Until the whole notebook thing.

There is a moment where Ryuk seems utterly aghast at the very idea of envying humans, raising spindly hands in immediate protest.]

It's not like that! I just figure if I've gotta be human, I might as well look good at it!

[And as far as he's concerned he does seem to actually think he makes a decent looking human. At least he has the wits to snap his mouth shut when reminded that other people can in fact hear him (and thus see him); after countless forevers of NOT being visible except if he wanted to be or someone touched his Death Note, it was still taking some getting used to.

The ex-shinigami droops a bit in place, perhaps properly chastened, but brightens back up quickly.]

I'll be more careful! But hey, who's other people here? Anyone we know?

[Light's eighteen, student at the best college in Japan, and son to the Deputy Director of the NPA. If he had been caught being a peeping tom, his punishment would have likely been much more harsh than usual thanks to his father. Besides, that would require the desire to see other people naked, and even the magazines were rather boring to them. If even the height of beauty didn't really catch his attention, random strangers hardly would.]

That's what criminals do, but it's not something I'd want on my record. It is illegal. [L might not care about it's legal consequences, but that doesn't make it okay.]

It won't be for long. Within a month you should start having changes or your own. Some transformations take longer, but most begin in that time frame. [Would he miss it? That human form of his?

Light does. Terribly.]

Hm...we should practice. You've always been expressive. Now that other people can see you, you should learn how to hide some of your amusement. [Chuckling at the wrong moment would give Light away.] And we do have someone here who will be watching: L. [And Mello, but Light is from a time in which he doesn't know Mello is an enemy.]

[A record for a dead man. That draws a chuckle from Ryuk; why would a record with the law matter anymore, all things considered? Then again Light wasn't dead anymore, and was well on his way to becoming other-than-human. But unlike Light, he certainly isn't viewing the coming change (or heck even his current one) with trepidation.

It would really be fun for a while. He can't ask for more!]

Hey yeaaahh, how are you gonna explain me being around anyway?

[He jerks one bony thumb at himself, grinning again.]

That guy was pretty sharp, he's going to figure out I'm not exactly born and bred human pretty fast. Are you going to kill him again or since this is somewhere new, have a friend instead?

[...ooh, the obvious answer would be sending Ryuk away but then how would he see part THREE of Light Vs Detectives play out?!]

[Surprisingly, or not, Light's doing well for himself in Ryslig, all things considered. So far, it seems like he's liked well enough, even if there are some exceptions. He was working at the lab, looking for a cure, and had collected a decent amount of information. Even dead, he wasn't going to stop.

Though he had come from a time in which he was very much alive. He was young, he was brilliant, and he was just about to kill his greatest rival.

Now he's a faerie.]

Before I explain my plan for that.. He was was sharp? [The grin may start off small, but it quickly spreads to cover a good portion of his face. 'Are you going to kill him again' Light had won. Light had killed L, and Ryuk was from a time after that.

The grin may be enough to answer Ryuk's question.] I've won, I managed to kill L?

[There were perks to being a bug. Like having wings. Ryuk missed his already, it was so ... so human to be walking around on his feet.

Of course, Light had either forgotten or somehow gone back in time and de-aged himself or God knew what else, so Light didn't ... remember L dying.

And if he didn't remember L's death, he probably didn't remember his own. As a grin of victory crosses the faerie's face, there's a look of speculative interest on Ryuk's, now no longer the nearly expressionless features of a shinigami but the more flexible ones of a human.

That sort of thoughtfulness in someone like Ryuk probably won't bode well, one day in hindsight.]

Yeah. More or less. But you don't have the same resources here, you can't do it again the same way.

[And then those buggish yellow eyes widen.]

Oooh, those are spoilers! Just like watching a show before you got home! I can't tell you what happens, it'll ruin it for you!

[At least by now Light's probably well used to the sound of Ryuk's laughter.]

[He rarely uses his own wings to get around, but there was little need. As a faerie, he had something even better than wings: rings. A faerie was able to use those rings to teleport, and that would always be much quicker than even flying. That was an ability he had taken advantage of often, even so soon after transforming.

Light begins to walk, hoping Ryuk gets the implication to follow.] There are other factors in play here. A monster's death is rarely permanent so killing him would only be temporary, and not worth the heightened paranoia until I discover a way to make it more permanent.

[The smile doesn't fall, not yet. Why would it? He can so easily imagine it, L's face as he begins to feel the pains in his chest, the look that shows he knows he's been defeated. That thought, the idea, makes it so much harder to handle Ryslig. If it had worked, Light had been so close to seeing it himself!] You aren't bound by the same rules as before Ryuk. Shouldn't it be freeing, saying whatever you want? Did the plan work then? Did Rem kill L?

[And then die herself. It was the perfect plan.]

[And of course, Ryuk follows.

It was a pattern years in the making, one he was pretty comfortable with by now. Always behind, never quite in view, usually silent - but now there's the steady rap of shoes on cement and pavement where once there had only been the rustle of feathers.]

He can't prosecute you or whatever here. Or throw you in jail. It'd be his word against yours, and if all this about monsters is true, he's gonna be killin' people too.

[So wouldn't that be hypocrisy? He's almost but not quite certain of it, and that uncertainty's in his voice. But not for long!

Since he's behind, Light can't see him waggle an admonishing finger, but it's somehow implied in his tone.]

That's not a shinigami rule. That's a Ryuk rule. If I spoil everything it won't be fun watching you figure it all out yourself. And that was before you're some sort of immortal bug guy! Now that you can't die, it'll be even more interesting seeing what happens next.

[The fall of his shoes blends in well with those around him. He may be visible, but in a world of monsters and humans, Ryuk doesn't stand out unless someone is from their world, at least in Light's eyes. Still, the pattern is still newer for Light than it is for the Shinigami, but it is still familiar. In a way, since becoming Kira, being watched had become familiar. With his life being as it was, Light was used to drawing eyes, but being watched so continually was a feeling he'd had no choice but to quickly adapt to.]

He doesn't have to prosecute me here. You're right in that he would have no case, there wasn't even a crime committed in Ryslig, and monsters themselves are currently outside of the law. I plan to fix that, but other information has taken priority...

Still, L can damage the reputation I've manage to build here, and allies are important. Monsters aren't popular among the human population.

[Sighing, Light can almost imagine the look on Ryuk's face.] I already know he dies so there's little reason in keeping the rest from me. I don't suppose an apple will work as well now... Hm, or will it? You will need to eat, all humans do.

Ryuk, would you happen to be hungry? [There was something light and joking in his voice. This was someone that accepted such jokes. When someone planned on killing you, openly so, dark humor was hardly off the table.]

So what are you gonna do?

[There's lots of things he could be doing besides following Light around, like experimenting with being human. But the promise of future entertainment was one he just couldn't ignore. Light had proved interesting for years.

Possibly there would be years yet, with both Light and L living again, nobody able to bring anyone to justice, no Death Notes to be had, only vindictive natures and monsterish bloody instincts!

... Honestly he wasn't sure that last part would be as diverting to watch but time would tell.]

Y'think all these people would believe some guy over you, if you've been making nice with everyone?

[He seems genuinely curious. Human nature was often a puzzle, but he figured they'd trust what they already had, not rumors of some malevolent thing on some other world nobody could even prove anymore.

Those thoughts evaporate neatly a moment later, his steady footsteps coming to a sudden stop, the silence perhaps telling before veerryy slowly they pick back up.]

I dunno. What's hunger feel like?

[Apples! He wasn't sure it was really an addiction any more the way it used to be, withdrawal and all, but he could almost taste the syrupy sweetness just thinking about them.]

How 'bout this. I'll tell you ... when the time seems right. Doesn't seem right, just out in the street like this! Specially if you're worried 'bout eavesdropping.

[Except now his focus is a little shifted, scanning the nearby windows and shops for any trace of delicious red round shapes.]

[His voice is low, low enough that it might be difficult to hear if he isn't listening closely, low enough for a passerby to miss.]

That's easy enough. I'll do the same thing I did at home before there was even a Kira: I'll make a reputation solid enough that his words won't hurt me. If he says it now, it will be my word against his, but the suspicion will be there. He has a life of his own here, he's had more time to build something. He's bad at it so I'm sure it's not much, but it's still something I have to protect myself against.

[There's been roadblocks thanks to a few events outside of his control, but once those people were dead, Light would feel safe enough until he got home. Once he did make it home, it wouldn't be a problem, especially if L's death was looming in the horizon. It's exciting.]

The danger comes from how easily swayed opinion can be. I've not been here long enough to win that kind of deep loyalty.

[When he hears Ryuk stopping, Light does too, but he'd once again begins to move when his companion does the same.]

You can feel it in your stomach, almost hollow. If it lasts long enough, sometimes there are noises, but you should eat before that point.

[Light no longer stocks a lot of apples, it's been a month since he's seen Ryuk, but that would be easy to change.]

That sounds fair. Then, when we get home. I'll let you make yourself comfortable and we can talk.

[Ryuk's grinning again, but wasn't he always?

That it wasn't his fixed default didn't matter much, it seems. He knew how things ended before, but maybe it would be different this time. This time, there were other gods in the mix. He was visible! They were all becoming literal monsters instead of figurative ones.

He'd be in good company.]

You've never had a lot of problems tricking people before. Becoming a bug might make it harder than L though, humans hate'm don't they?

[The real complication as far as he's concerned!

And it might seem that he's thinking about that, weighing Light as a bug, but in truth his mind's on certain fruit and whether or not he was hungry. He didn't think he was, there were no noises and he didn't feel particularly hollow, but Ryuk figured there had to be room for apples at any time in a human body.]

I'll keep it in mind.

[Home~ It'll occur to him eventually that now that he's human he'll actually need to do things like sleep, but it hasn't yet and probably won't until he finds himself tired to the point of sleepiness.]

I'll give ya a little spoiler though, since you're gonna get me apples. L's not the only one you're up against.

[If only Light was in on the joke too, they could both be grinning. Wouldn't that be nice Ryuk, celebrating something so important with a pseudo partner?

L is a vampire. Knowing Ryuk's sense of humor, he would find that funny, the fact that Light's greatest enemy looked more undead than ever, and that he was...well, undead. Not dead, as Light would have wanted...no, he had missed that part, had come too late. Or maybe not. Maybe he would only get teased for it instead.]

I had an established reputation long before L came along. When I had to trick strangers, it was for short term plans, and those that became loyal quickly did so because of what I achieved as Kira. I don't have the Death Note here, no one can be impacted by Kira's decisions, so he won't get many followers. I'll win against him, I'll be successful even here, but there's no reason to give myself an unneeded handicap.

Becoming a monster of any kind makes it harder to be trusted by humans. In that, L and I are equal...or, rather, he's no better. He's a vampire now.

[There's not always room in the human body for apples, but Ryuk will discover that soon enough too. In fact, too many apples can often cause indigestion problems. The Shinigami likely won't enjoy the first time he gets sick. If he can get sick. Monsters likely can't, not without magic, but he also hadn't heard of any illnesses befalling those waiting on their first month.

Light looks over his shoulders, his wings moving automatically so that he can look at his companion.] Are you referring to Watari? [No, he should have to die too.]
