TEST DRIVE : MAY 2016 EDITIOIN

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.

  • The Reserve date is MAY 20ST 12:01AM EST.
  • There is an Enable Me / App this Plz to see what some people are offering or would love to play.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[The person .. if one used the term rather loosely... accosted by Lord Malfoy is a very tall, very strange looking creature that could probably pass for human in a dim hallway. But humans don't have yellow eyes or sharp peglike teeth or crooked claws or skin so pale as to be nearly white. Do they? Ryuk looks a lot more human than he used to, at least.

But he's a new arrival too, by the couple of pamphlets clutched in one spidery hand. And when Lucius whirls and snaps his demand, the ghoulish figure smiles, putting all those sharp teeth on display.]

Looks like it means everyone's headed for a real interesting time.

[That smile widens towards an almost mad grin, and a single pamphlet is held up.]

I think I got one you don't.
ueteribus: (undetriginta)

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-07 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[His eyes widen a fraction and the angry, arrogant sneer slips from his face. But he braces his spine with a line of determination - he will not give...whatever this thing is the satisfaction of seeing him flinch. Though he longs to. Survival instinct alone is telling him to get the hell away and fast.

It's probably just a very good costume or illusion, he reasons to himself, seeking reassurance. Perhaps someone who's been Transfigured to appear like this.

He clears his throat as quietly as he can to disguise the fact he even has, before continuing in a cool and unimpressed voice.
]

An interesting time, you say. Certainly one way to put it.

[His eyes flick to the pamphlet, to show it is very intentional when he avoids taking it and continues to ignore it.]

So I suppose that you must be one of the "monsters" to which these things reference?

It'll beat boredom for a while!

[He sounds enthusiastic about it. But ... 'for a while'. Sooner or later humans just got used to the worst of things and would settle into a routine and become dull and uninteresting. How long would the entertainment last? A few months? Maybe a whole year?!

... Not as long as Light's fun had lasted, certainly. Lucius is eyed thoughtfully. This guy probably wouldn't be fun for long at all, he had that sort of arrogant shroud of personality that meant he'd just try to hide everything interesting to save face.

Humans.]

Nah, I'm new here! You people become monsters, I got to become human. Not bad looking, huh? [There's that ghastly smile again and a chuckle as he rakes a hand through his disheveled black hair. For a human, he's anything but good looking, but clearly thinks otherwise.] I guess I'll change too eventually, but it's scarier for humans isn't it?

[Which seems to catch his interest again by the way he leans forward, eyebrows rising sharply.]

Think it'll happen to you? Let's see. You don't look the 'fur bearing trout' type, I bet you'll be a vampire! You already look the part, hey?
ueteribus: (triginta duo)

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-07 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lucius does draw back this time, but it's not out of fear at least - his chin lifter higher his eyes narrow again in haughty affront.]

Certainly not. I don't care what these leaflets claim, and I dislike the implication that it would even be possible to become such a...creature.

[The word is spat out with a very specific kind of distaste. The tone typically reserved for the way slurs are spoken.]

Hardly. Not for my sort. But if you're so looking forward, then you're welcome to it. If what you say is true it shall only be what you're used to, then, isn't it?

[That condescending sneer means that he doesn't entirely believe you, by the way.]
applol: (Default)

[personal profile] applol 2016-05-07 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maybe this human would be interesting after all. Evidence pointed to all of them changing sooner or later, and there were even nonhumans here and there to be seen. To deny it and refuse all possibility meant that sooner or later things were going to be really exciting for Lucius Malfoy. He rubs his chin in a gesture he'd seen many humans use when thoughtful. Maybe it would be worth keeping an eye on this guy.]

Maa, maybe you're right and you'll be special and stay a boring human, and all this goin' on is just for everyone else. But these other humans ... they're afraid of something. And they're watching you like you're just as scary as me.

[That grin doesn't seem to fade for long does it? He can match a sneer with a jagged smirk, and hope he can find this human again when things begin going pear-shaped.]

Vampires? Never been one in my life! Blood's not for me! I prefer apples. What makes you special that you're going to be immune to all of this?

[Honestly, Lucius looked a lot like every other human he'd ever encountered, though with longer hair than he'd seen on most people in Japan. Maybe it was a local thing.]
ueteribus: (duodetriginta)

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-07 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[While he's being considered, Lucius is also warily considering the other being as well. This thing - he claims that he didn't used to be human, and his specific denial of being a vampire could be a potential evasion. Is he trying to talk around the question of just what, exactly, he used to be?

Though he doesn't drop his attitude Lucius speaks a little more evenly, giving his conversational partner more of his careful attention.
]

Fear is wise. It's good to give something or someone dangerous, someone who deserves respect, their space. It's only polite.

[No, he doesn't at all mind being feared. And he certainly knows he is worthy of respect.]

Normally I wouldn't say, but as you were so accommodating as to let me know a bit about...yourself. I am a wizard. Born and bred of magical blood, one of the most powerful lineages left in Britain, going back near a thousand years.
applol: (Default)

[personal profile] applol 2016-05-07 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You're new here. How's anyone going to know any of that?

[Ryuk at least looked strange, Lucius looked human! But humans seemed to know when something didn't belong in their midsts, and they were treating ALL the new arrivals as if they were something dangerous, not just the ones who looked different, like himself.

Ryuk was no genius. Not like Light. But he could notice things too. Usually when humans had an inflated view of themselves there was a reason for it. Was this guy a mayor? Some hotshot in some position of power? A president maybe!

That idea is dashed pretty quick; he didn't think Britain had presidents. Or anyone who claimed to be wizards, at least not since before electricity. He weighed Lucius' behavior and manner of dress against what he dimly recalled of that era, and after a moment gives up. It's probably not important.]

Huh. You got a young family. [Again that chin-rub, it's an artificial gesture but if he had to be human now he might as well try to act like one!] That might not be as frightening to the humans here as being a twenty foot tall rock monster, unless you got the fancy sort of magic. It's been a long time since any human I ever spoke to said they could do that kind of thing.

[Magic. Humans with magic. Now that was funny!]
ueteribus: (tria)

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-07 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Then I don't know where you have been. Evidently, not any place that counts as proper society.

[Just dropping insults here and there without second thought, it's how he does. He didn't necessarily expect this one to be instantly impressed by his claims - obviously he's no wizard himself, and isn't in the know, so to speak. But it's hard not to be annoyed by the rather flippant way he reacts to about everything Lucius has to say.]

Where I come from, wizards are a flourishing race. Though of course we keep our existence secret from those unworthy of interacting with it. Muggles, humans born without magic.
applol: (Default)

[personal profile] applol 2016-05-07 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, maybe. Don't visit the human world that often.

[If it's supposed to be an insult it's apparently utterly missed, because frankly Ryuk didn't count the shinigami world as anything but a boring place you got stuck when you didn't have anywhere else to go, that was hardly 'proper society'.

He'd be impressed by seeing magic. Actual magic, not just those really interesting tricks some humans did with cards on street corners to make a little money.

Maybe this one would if poked enough. He crosses his skinny arms over his chest, tapping fingers along his own bicep. How to get magic out of a guy? Make them angry? That might backfire. If he could be seen he could probably be hurt.]

Maybe I've been making a mistake keeping an eye on Japan, and Britain's where all the fun's at! I'll keep it in mind for when things get less interesting and pay a visit. You got magic people anywhere else?
ueteribus: (viginti sex)

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-07 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
There are wizards and witches all over the world.

[He's giving him more of a sidelong glance now. Why is none of this making any sense?

And as to magic, well. Lucius woke up unfortunately without his wand. He presumes the ones that captured him must have taken it. As far as he knows all he needs is to get it back, though, or some sort of replacement.

He doesn't realize his powers simply won't work at all in this place.
]

All our communities are well-hidden however. It's the nature of things. Legally required, as a matter of fact.
applol: (Default)

I would get more icons but ryuk only has one expression, ever.

[personal profile] applol 2016-05-07 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Your rules and hidden communities won't help hide you from a shinigami.

[That too-wide grin is back. He was human now, but that would likely change sooner or later, either here or when he was back on Earth, and when that happened, there wasn't much anyone would be able to do!

... Well, so he thought anyway. Ryuk wasn't quite as good at finding things as he thought he was, even if he was a shinigami. The wizarding world simply wasn't connected to the world he knew.]

Hey, show me some magic!

[Brilliant! Best way to get what he wants, just ask! Why hadn't he thought of it before?!]
ueteribus: (triginta duo)

ha i've seen characters like that before, i feel ya

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-07 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Shini...what?

[He doesn't recognize that word, though it does sound Japanese so maybe he shouldn't be surprised. Honestly, he doesn't particularly care.

What he does care about very much however is the presumptuous request. He draws back, flinching at last, but his lips curl in a sneer so tight it shows teeth.
]

I'm hardly some carnival performer here for your entertainment.

[Cold distaste, and Lucius eyes him with scorn. The reaction would be similar even if he did have his wand, frankly: the idea of someone demanding he have to prove he is what he is...is absurd. So he's not nervous at being questioned without the actual ability to back it up. Yet.

He is however not even hiding the fact that he's glancing around, ready to walk away in search of conversation with...anyone else.
]
applol: (Default)

[personal profile] applol 2016-05-07 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
'Death god'. Not really applicable for now, I got a heartbeat and everything.

[Show teeth? He can show teeth right back! One thing Ryuk isn't good at is really reading human expressions. After hanging around with Light for so long one would assume he'd have picked a few things up, but...

...well, he didn't. But he does notice those side glances, and yellow eyes narrow with thoughtful speculation even though he's still grinning.]

Yeah. Yeah you are. Cuz if you don't.. that means you can't. And after telling me about your powerful lineage, too. You're the same as everyone else here until you can prove otherwise.

[Things Ryuk doesn't fear: being hurt by mortals. It can't happen! (Yes it can. He'll find that out eventually..)]
ueteribus: (sexaginta tria)

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-07 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you calling me a liar?

[He continues to sneer. This one is possibly physically stronger than him, and Lucius doesn't really know what he'll do without his magic if it comes down to a fight.

But blast it, he'll not stand for being insulted so. Not when he's already in a bad mood.
]
applol: (Default)

[personal profile] applol 2016-05-07 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe.

[It's the same grin as ever, but it seems a little less friendly now. His stance hasn't changed.

And possibly worse yet for Lucius, people are listening! Some of them with their helpful pamphlets clutched in their hands still, debating if now is a bad time to try to get some favor with these particular monsters-to-be.]

If you're gonna claim to be a wizard from a long line of other wizards, you should be expecting this sort of thing when dealing with uh. Whattayacall'em. Moogles?
ueteribus: (quinquaginta septem)

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-07 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Muggles. The word is Muggles.

[He's beginning to reconsider the wisdom of having said anything, now. He doesn't turn his head or make a show of moving his eyes but he's acutely aware of the fact that they're drawing the attention of those crowded about nearby.

And he thought his circumstance here couldn't possibly get any worse.
]
applol: (Default)

[personal profile] applol 2016-05-07 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Muggles! Yeah, that's it!

[Ryuk thumps one fist into his open palm, looking terribly pleased, as if he'd somehow come up with that answer himself and NOT had it supplied to him again by Lucius.

Then he sobers.. for a given version of sober. His version of it.]

Listen, Mr. Wizard. There's one a you, and there's a whole lot of those 'moggles' around. And not all of them are eyeing you like you're their savior. [He raises a hand and wiggles his fingers in a grotesque parody of a wave at the nearest of them, which recoil with cautious alarm. Ryuk lowers his voice.]

Maybe you can do magic. Maybe you can't, for the same reasons I'm not a shinigami anymore. But them.. I'd be careful of them if I were you. They seem to believe these lil papers they keep handing out, even if they don't, and humans do weird things when scared enough. Dangerous things.

[He straightens up, stuffing his own pamphlets in the collar of his too-tight shirt, where they sit fluttering against the decorational feathers there.]

And that'd be a crying shame, cuz I wanna see you when what they think's gonna happen, happens. You die before then, and there's nothing interesting at all anymore.
ueteribus: (quadraginta unus)

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-08 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
[It is becoming belatedly rather clear that this man, person, thing, alleged death god, whatever he is, is not entirely of a sane mind. Lucius does his best to sidle back on the pretense of needing more room, looking up at him -- moving as much as he can while disguising the fact he is moving at all, and for Merlin's sake don't make it look like an actual retreat.

Disturbing as it is - and as distrusting as he is - however, there is something not unlike a kind of sense to be had in the words aimed his way. There is a warning there he'd be reckless not to consider.

He doesn't know what's going on here, still. He can't afford to be reckless.
]

I would hate to spoil your fun by removing all things interesting in the process of my demise.

[Tartly, he says this, and very sardonic. His expression vaguely borders on sulky. But for all his continuing airs, the wheels in his head are turning as he weighs the implied words of caution.]

It is Malfoy, by the way. Lucius Malfoy. If I'm to be 'mister'ed at it may as well be under the proper name.
applol: (Default)

[personal profile] applol 2016-05-09 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Good. It's a lot more fun when people aren't dead.

[At least he's fairly open with his interest. Eventually they'd change.. and he intended to have a list of people to visit when that began, the ones that would be the most interesting...

This haughty wizard seemed like he'd be extremely interesting to watch when the time came. What WOULD he become? A vampire? A furry trout? No, trout seemed like they'd be cold and bland people, not cold and interesting people..]

Malfoy then.

[This seems amusing somehow; he wouldn't have had to wait til he's given a name not so long ago. And now.. now he had to do it the human way!]

Gonna stay around this city? I'm going to come looking, when we all really become freaks, see how you're doin'.
ueteribus: (undeseptuaginta)

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-09 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
In that endeavor, I do look forward to disappointing you.

[He's sticking to his point here; stubborn, in denial. The magic he knows is not the one this world has attempted to describe, and he'll insist it must therefore be false...until, it seems, forcibly proven otherwise.

He says this almost mutter quick, though, not interested in continuing further argument over the point.
]

I couldn't say, as yet. Although if there are other places nearby I might look into them. Surroundings that are less...disagreeable. [In that pause he looks around, at all the technology opening present, and sniffs in disgust.]
applol: (Default)

noo how did i miss this

[personal profile] applol 2016-05-15 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
[His stubbornness only earns him a jagged, ghastly grin. Humans were so interesting. If he could just find this guy later..

That'd be the hard part though. It was a whole city! What if he just stayed inside when the changes started? Then Ryuk would never be able to locate him in time to see all the reactions to be had!]

Which bit's the disagreeable part? The city, all the people who don't do magic?

[It doesn't occur to him that maybe it's more than one thing or could ever possibly be technology. Technology was wonderful! Amazing! Full of games and excitement and the evening news!]
ueteribus: (quinquaginta duo)

meh it happens

[personal profile] ueteribus 2016-05-20 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Technology, especially at such pronounced levels of advancement, is an inherently Muggle spectacle. Lucius wants no part in it.

If he can avoid it, that is. He may soon find that's easier said than done.
]

It's all part of the same thing, isn't it. Least as far as I'm concerned.

[He allows his face to shift at last into an open sneer.]

And perhaps the more distance I put between myself and these other new arrivals, the better. It'd be one thing if we actually had common goals and could work together to get out of here and back home; but as that is starting to seem unlikely...

[Though it's always possible some might be more reasonable than this fellow. Some might even be wizards.]
