Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.
Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.
hotarumaru | touken ranbu
[ Hotarumaru's first experience at a real hospital hadn't exactly been a fun one. Waking up only to be ushered out of the room before you can even orientate yourself wasn't a great start to anything, in his opinion. Something felt very very wrong with the entire situation, too, but Hotarumaru couldn't quite put a finger on what it was yet.
In any case, there is now a very small person reading a very long pamphlet ("Dealing with Your New Life As An Abominable Snowman: Dos and Do Nots") with their head tilted sideways standing outside a nearby building. He looks confused and slightly disgruntled, not to mention completely harmeless. ]
scenario two
[ When you are a tiny, tiny person who is used to being armed, finding yourself in a big, big wood unarmed is particularly jarring. It becomes even more jarring when the armament you usually carry is usually, well, yourself, so having a big part of yourself that also serves as a weapon missing is all kinds of disorientating. Couple that with the fact that at the startling height of 3'11", you can't see over the next pile of rocks, let alone high enough to find a path or way out.
Long story short, Hotarumaru is now a very lost swordboy.
Thankfully, he's not the type to lose his head about things. He may be confused, vulnerable and hopelessly lost, but he seems to be trucking through okay, keeping a keen eye on his surroundings--
Until he bumps right into you. Like, literally.]
O-oww...
wildcard
[ Feel free to start your own prompt!! ]
two
but luckily for him, eating small swordboys is not on today's agenda. so after folding his wings back, he places his hand on hotarumaru's head, trying to reassure him with a comforting pat. ]
If you were trying to surprise me, Hotaru, you did a good job.
no subject
[ Hotarumaru backs up, both to escape Tsurumaru's pats and to look Tsurumaru in the eye. There's a few twigs caught in Hotaru's hair, one of which dislodges itself as he peers to the side, trying to get a clearer look at Tsurumaru's wings. ]
It's okay, I'm surprised too. What have you got there?
no subject
Wings. [ there's a tilt of his head to the side, and then a bright smile. ] Are you surprised?
no subject
[ Tsurumaru gets a little clap for his display of wings and a very bright-eyed Hotarumaru looking back up at him. ]
How did you get them? Can you fly?
no subject
I don't know, actually... [ about where he got them, he means. ] If you stay here long enough, you start... uh, changing.
[ but— ] It's not so bad that we're not swords anymore — here, do you want a lift? I'll carry you over the trees.
no subject
Yeah. I won't weigh you down, much.
[ He reaches out to Tsuru so he can be easily picked up. ]
Mm, we're not swords anymore, huh? That's why I feel weird, right.
one
Ah, what are you reading? Anything interesting?
[ He doesn't feel the need to introduce himself. After all--- they were allies once, right? ]
no subject
[ Kogitsunemaru's voice is familiar and Hotarumaru isn't exactly surprised to hear it. After a moment, Hotarumaru cranes his head to blink up at Kogitsunemaru, a tiny frown crossing his features at Kogi's appearance. He reaches a hand up, beckoning Kogitsunemaru forward a little to even up their heights. ]
Kogitsunemaru-san, come here.
no subject
[ Lowering himself down to his knees, there are other changes to Kogitsunemaru's appearance--- a lack of arm guard, no sword at his side, and a lack of some of the added belts and strings that wrapped around his waist. Then again, those things probably don't matter considering the additional 'monstrous' bits. ]
Does this suit you?
no subject
[ Hotaru looks him over a couple of times, seemingly observing carefully...
Before reaching a tiny hand up and patting Kogi right on his fuzzy-eared head. ]
Good boy. [then, after a pause;] You're decorated differently. Is it costume season already?
no subject
Well, obviously. I'm always a good boy. [ He smirks. ] However, do not be mistaken. This is not a costume.
[ The dog part and the good boy part. Neither are false. ]
no subject
[ Hotaru smiles back, and keeps absently petting Kogi's head as his one free hand makes an attempt to fold the pamphlet back up. ]
Can you tell me about it?
no subject
[ Because it should be very clear that the ears are not fake and that his tone, while gentle and amused, is not a lying one. ]
If I told you that, as soon as you woke here, you were no longer your vessel... and that over some days, you would also succumb to a slow transformation into a creature not seen in our time... what would you say?
[ No pamphlet could ever cover the things that he or the other former tsukumogami had gone through. ]
no subject
Once the question is posed to him, Hotaru tilts his head and sighs. ]
Hmmm. So, we're somehow here and different, is what you're saying. I would say that... it may not make a lot of sense, but we have seen some other strange things before, haven't we?
no subject
Very strange things. Dangerous things. However, our goal was pretty straightforward, wouldn't you agree?
[ Being tasked to handle enemy forces seems like a far, favorable memory to Kogitsunemaru. ]
Though, there are some things in our favor. First, we have a Citadel. We no longer need a master, but we do have each other. Second, there are some we can trust who are from other worlds.
[ Like Sorey, Mikleo, Yue, Gundam Tanaka, and Vietnam. ]
However, there is one nasty caveat. At some point, you will hunger for humans. It is an inevitability that we must all deal with. Sometimes, it is easy. Sometimes, it is not.

Hotarumaru.
[He speaks up, just to get his attention from those pamphlets. Which, if he recalls correctly, does have some information. But they're not enough in his experience.]
no subject
[ The greeting is supplemented with a jaunty little wave. Hotarumaru folds the pamphlet, looking up at Yamanbagiri to give him his full attention. He seems completely unperturbed by the entire situation. ]
Did you know your hood's crooked?
no subject
[As if it'd help, when it's one of the nicknames some of their comrades like to use for him. At Hotarumaru's question, those bumps on his head twitches a little. He just gives a nod.]
Yes, I'm aware. That's because... my ears are underneath it.
no subject
Ears. Kogitsunemaru-san is stylish for sure, but I didn't think you'd be the type to imitate him, Manba.
no subject
I'm not imitating him. [Sure, he wants to be different from the other Yamanbagiri. But that doesn't mean he's that eager to copy another sword's style.] I'm forced to have them.
[He glances at the pamphlets.] Did you finish reading them?
no subject
[ It's a joke. But thankfully, Hotarumaru can take a hint. He's fine with letting Yamanbagiri go if he doesn't want to show off, though he might pout a bit about it. He brings the pamphlet up to cover his expression. ]
Yup, I read this one and another one too. Looks like some strange things are happening.
no subject
[And sometimes, Yamanbagiri isn't sure if he can detect a joke or not. After adjusting his hood a little, he lower his hands, which have something like claws poking out from his fingertips, through the little holes on his gloves.]
They don't explained everything, but they're true. The part about us transforming into something else.
no subject
[ If making an attempt himself isn't going to work, maybe asking sincerely will. Hotarumaru waves the pamphlet he'd been reading. ]
I don't really want to turn into something like this, though.
no subject
... No. [That's not surprising, however...] I don't mind if we're at the citadel. Just not in public.
[Even if the citizens knows what a werewolf looks like, Yamanbagiri wants to have some control over his privacy and comfort as much as possible.
He glance at the pamphlet.]
Many of us doesn't want this. [Himself included.] But it's a fact that we change into monsters.
... But no matter what kind you change into, you wouldn't be alone.
[Which was possibly how he manage to emotionally and mentally endure it so far].
