TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

• You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
• We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!

• Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
• Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[His stubbornness only earns him a jagged, ghastly grin. Humans were so interesting. If he could just find this guy later..

That'd be the hard part though. It was a whole city! What if he just stayed inside when the changes started? Then Ryuk would never be able to locate him in time to see all the reactions to be had!]

Which bit's the disagreeable part? The city, all the people who don't do magic?

[It doesn't occur to him that maybe it's more than one thing or could ever possibly be technology. Technology was wonderful! Amazing! Full of games and excitement and the evening news!]

[Kouen resists the primal urge to swat at him with his newly-grown claws and grits his teeth. The kid's probably scared to death, but that just raises the question of why he's still sticking around. Anyone with any sense would probably have taken the broken window as a hint that things aren't safe.

He grabs the brat with the hand that isn't in horrible pain, dislodges him, and shoves him away.]

Get out of here.

[He firmly shakes his head.]

That doesn't mean we should act like what they expect us to do. We're in this together, whether we like it or not. A monster isn't based simply on looks.

I can sympathize, regardless. [His poor shoulders were aching so much. He brightens visibly.]

I'm Subaki. I'd say it's a pleasure but I would have chosen better circumstances.

Well.

That sure is a good impression of a fish, alright. Spot on, really. Now if Lorna could just figure out what it is she said to make Beatrice decide to become one with her inner beached-bass, that would be great.

"Oh, aye, that I know." She replies, nodding quickly. "There was a bell, you see, an enchanted bell that my Aunt--"

She pauses, trailing off as it dawns on her why Beatrice would ask about this in the first place. Her eyes go a little wide, her fingers moving to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear as she tries not to feel too slow for not realizing where this line of questioning was headed before now.

"...I'm so sorry, I've gone and raised your hopes, haven't I?"

[Kouen doesn't let go. Of course he doesn't. Who cares what he "means" here? When it comes to things like this, it's less entitlement and more a single-minded, unwavering obsession with finding out whatever it is he wants to know. He doesn't exactly back down easily, not when there's something he wants and he knows how he can get it. Find "his" Magi and ask? Not in a million years. Not when there's someone within arm's reach who can tell him right now. (Someone who, unlike said Magi, may actually share the answer if he yells at him enough.)]

You're not done until I say you're done, so tell me what you know!

Magic. [She wants to protest but how could she? The evidence was right in her face: fairies, other folklore come to life. till, there is a piece of her that feels there is more than meets the eye here.]

So we're brought here, changed and given magic powers. Whatever for? [Somehow she feels there is a larger downside that isn't being spoken of, other than their transportation to this place.]

Well, I was retired but that life just didn't suit me. [Another smile.]

Sun and moon, yes, those make sense for gods. But fog? That's a new one. I'm not even sure the Greeks or the Romans had a god for fog. So that one is the one to blame for all of this? [Curioser and curioser.]

Ah, my apologies. [Can't win them all. Still, she was close.] And you are absolutely right. The more people, the more convoluted and the more things can go wrong, the sort of thing you hope for as a detective but not as a writer when you are plotting your next book.

Mm. [While she's not one for paranormal or aliens, she's learned too much in the past day to dismiss such things as easily as she once did.] I admit that there is more going on here than anything I can guess. But - I think with some hard work we might be able to sort this all out.

[He just blinks back down, unsure why she is covering herself and if her appearance is change based… there are plenty of unusual beings running around in the world, he knows that much from his mother's stories, if nothing else. He grimaces then, when he feels pain and a push at his tailbone and fingers.

He can taste blood in his mouth, his teeth aching as well. Trunks ignores it all and just shakes his head.]

No worries; it takes quite a bit to knock me over.

[Osomatsu looks up from the pamphlets in his hands towards Jimmy, his expression looking a little confused.]

There's no way they're being serious about it, right?

[He's got no idea who he's really picking up, but would he be too surprised if he knew? Probably not. A lot of things have tried to kill him in his lifetime.]

Collections, mostly. I'm trying to zero out some accounts before we stop doing business in Vandare, settle some books, you know. I work for a PI firm based outta Bavan.

You're definitely gonna want to watch out while you're here. The locals aren't exactly friendly. The whole man-eating monster thing kind of puts them off.

[ The man's disbelief is countered with a bland stare. Lucius can sound as incredulous as he likes; Kaito speaks the truth, temptation to give in to an urge to lie and mess with his silly, white head be damned.

...Although it's his turn to give them a weird look, because what the utter hell are crumpet-born snorlaxes and gargles? ]

There's no fur-bearing trout here as far as I can tell, [ he says slowly. ] And no-- whatever it was you just said. Or axehounds. What kinda place are you from that has such weird names for things?

R-right? Right! It must be! It's just someone playing a prank! That's all!

[He brightens and manages a sunny smile. That has to be it! It's a little mean-spirited, of course, but maybe it's just someone who lives in the forest having a little laugh at their misfortune and sooner or later that someone will show up and show them how to get out!

That...has to be it...

The smile lasts until the next peal of ethereal laughter echoes through the treetops, flitting from one side of the path to the other over their heads as if branches and leaves are no impediment at all.

Yew squeaks and curls back into a ball.]

Why doesn't it sound like someone playing a prank?

[Sphintus actually can be helpful if he really tries.

Right now is none of those times, though. Giving Kouen a glare he tosses his hands up in an exasperated gesture.]

Rrrrrgh! Fine!!

[But rather than answering Kouen's question his hands fly to the fastening of his skirt and undo it. Dropping the lower half of his clothes Sphintus' steps as quick as a lightning out of it and dashes out of Kouen's reach before he can get grabbed again.]

Nyah! It's called boxers, you- Whoa! Watch it!!

[Dodging onto the street and not looking for the traffic: A+ idea.]

[He'll give an extravagant bow. ]

And you know, I would absolutely eat a horse. ...Or rather I would before I became a mutant My Little Pony, but still. Point stands.

[Jimmy nods quickly, looking over the pamphlet Edd holds up briefly before letting out a sigh.]

Uh huh, yeah...this place is really confusing, though. Nobody will really answer my questions, and they just keep giving me those!

[He says, pointing at the papers still in Edd's hand.]

[It's absolutely for the best. Even as a scrawny and frail-looking human, L wasn't the type to fold hopelessly and helplessly if he was on the receiving end of any sudden attack. Now, even though he's a vampire and much more powerful, he retains the same attitude toward personal space he did back home, only he has a lot more than some incidental martial-arts skills to back it up. He dislikes initiating violence, but putting him in a position to resort to self-defense means that all bets are off.

He quirks one of his hairless brows at the "weird getup" comment, gaze lingering on Ryuk and squinting slightly. He knows for a fact that he hasn't seen the man before, but the way the former-Shinigami looks at him makes him wonder if that's mutual.]

That name, that the other members of your species who do not look like you share? What is it? Now that you've mentioned that killing doesn't matter to you, I'm admittedly very curious.

Fog God? [ Now that was something the pamphlets didn't mention. Or at least, not that Robin saw. He raises an eyebrow, flipping through the collection of brochures he's collected in the past few minutes. ] None of these mentioned anything about gods. Is that some kind of religious cult?

[ Maybe there was more to it, since this guy was talking like the god was an actual person. ]

Are there any booklets on where I can read up more on this god? I had no idea about those until now.

Off the mark? [ That was...a little confusing. Robin didn't like the idea of time being frozen but at the same time, it put his mind at ease. Last night had been absolutely awful; he didn't want his friends worrying about him more than hey had been during the past few hours. He might not be able to communicate, but he could deal with that as long as they wouldn't worry.

And then there was this 'homeworld' stuff going on. He's heard about it from others around asking questions, but it was still confusing nonetheless. ] I'm not sure what you mean by homeworlds, though.

[ He's trying really hard to ignore the kids that are still laughing somewhere in the woods. The kids that aren't even real. Maybe if this was in broad daylight, this wouldn't be as horrifying. Also considering the fact that Robin's been dealing with hallucinations for the past few hours.

Judging by the fact that this kid has wings, Robin's going to assume he knows his way around the woods. That's okay to assume, right? ]

How do I get out of here?

[ Ooh, that was a good point. Robin nods, wrinkling up his nose a little. It was sad but true; in a world where you were going to turn into a monster and probably go after the same people who were giving you free stuff now, it was eat or be eaten, right? Only in this case, it was suck up and hope that you wouldn't be someone's next meal. It's a pretty sad concept, considering. ] True enough.

[ Robin takes a second to look the kid over. How old was he, even? He had to be no older than Robin. ]

I don't think I want to know. [ He shakes his head, rather wearily. ] I guess according to how these things go, we're going to find out soon enough either way. The least we can do is try to adapt and maybe find a different way, if we can... [ If at all possible. Robin had a sinking feeling that "if at all possible" wasn't the case. ]

I'm Robin, by the way. [ He'll offer a very sore hand, but will try to smile as truly as he can. ] Nice to meet you, considering the circumstances.

(ooc- he's dressed like robin! he looks pretty beaten up, but otherwise he's dressed in uniform!))

[Osomatsu's eyes widen a little in shock, and he whips his head around a couple of times -- to take a look at the few monsters helping newbies out.

When he turns back to Jimmy, he has a smile on his face but his eyes look... very uncomfortable.]

A-aren't those just.. people in costumes? Fun family mascots to take pictures with and beat the shit out of when you're bored?
