TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.

Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[Almost immediately after he says that, she swings to hit him on the head --

[Aaand she pulls her hand back. You're safe for now, Karamatsu.]

But... if you ask me, I give boys too much credit.
Guys are no-good, they don't take care of themselves, and they're always lazy.
I just - ugh.

[UGH, KARAMATSU. UGH. Don't even get her started.
You don't want her life story, man.]

C'mon, I might as well show you the living room, since that's where the other boys spend all their time.

[Good job ruining this for yourself, Karamatsu. Now she's her usual amount of grouchiness!!]

[Oops. Thanks for saving his life, Hana, he knew he liked you for a reason. And it's sortof hard to empathize with her plight because, well. He is a boy. ...and he can't really argue with a single thing she claimed, because in his case, it's all true.

He keeps on following along, lifting a hand to adjust his sunglasses again. Okay, he can salvage this.]

Please! I would love to see everything, even if I am not to stay here.

[He's probably going to get a taste of why the boys stay down here and regret his earlier decision, but...he's going to try and stick with it. He'll still be near Mahiru, so there's that!]

But at least you do have most of that area in the palace to yourself. Your space, as you say...right?

Most? Try all of that extra room. I don't really get why everyone stays in the keep, but keep the animals in the palace...

[So, that's part of why she stays there alone.
Part of, being the keywords there.]

C'mon in, I guess.
Take off your shoes, of course; the keep's a lot cleaner than the palace, and we'd like it to stay that way.

[Opening the door to the grand building, and it's... definitely nicer than the palace.
Not a speck off dust, and way more furnished.]

[Karamatsu nods, toeing off his shoes as requested. That part's habitual at this point, given the fact that they always did the same back home. Group of rowdy brothers they may be, some things were just ingrained in them from a very young age. All the while, Karamatsu found his curiosity about this place to be growing by the minute. Imagine his luck, getting to stay here! What would his brothers say, if they could see?

Would they notice?]

Perhaps they prefer to sacrifice the space for the extra company, hmm?

[Karamatsu could see the appeal. After all, it doesn't take long to become lonely.]

Well, duh; but what if something happens to the palace?
It's not like the animals can fend off a group of stupid hunters or something.

[The Tanaka Kingdom may be strong, but it's not that strong.]

Mm, speaking of animals - [She waves a hand to the door on their left. There's the sound of ruffling and bird calls coming from it.] - the dojo is through there, but be respectful if you visit it.
It's filled with the spirits of animals. Tanaka's going to build a shrine for them in there, too.

[Just... casually mentions it, as she heads upstairs apparently?? Her class has been through so much weirder, at this point.]

Ah- s-spirits?

[WAIT COME BACK-

Karamatsu lingers by the door for just a second before quickly scurrying after Mahiru, shaking his head a little as what she just said sinks in. But...that's not much stranger than anything else he's experienced here so far, is it? Who is he to judge, really?]

Yeah, spirits. I don't really get why, but they're just animal spirits.
They don't do much besides make noise.

[Shrugs??
And the stairwell seems to lead into the living room! There's a large sofa and a nice looking TV - video games included, thanks to Chiaki - all in all making the room look cozy and comfortable.]

... Here's the main room.
As long as you don't touch anything of Kuzuryuu's, you can do whatever you'd like in here.
Well - provided that you don't break anything, of course.

[And she motions in another direction -]

The kitchen's just over that way - but we have one in the palace, too. So don't worry about having to wander between buildings just for something to eat.
Upstairs are the bedrooms... Don't go poking your nose around up there, though.

If I find out you went through any of the other girls' stuff, I swear I'll toss you into Lake Dala.

[As Mahiru leads him through the place, Karamatsu takes the time to take everything in. There certainly is a lot to see here, a lot more than he and his brothers had back home. Why is it he's staying in the palace again...? Well, to be closer to Mahiru, obviously. It's a sacrifice he's more than willing to make.

He turns to Mahiru with a smile, adjusting his glasses again.]

Who, me? I would never do such a thing!

[Osomatsu, on the other hand...]

I will treat this place as if it were my own, I can assure you.

[... Alright, she might be smiling a little herself. If only because he's actually kind of mindful about others' space, unlike some guys she knows.]

I'm glad to hear it.
There's... not much else to do from here, though.

[She scratches her cheek a bit, in thought. What else could she show him...?
It's not like she's going to go upstairs and point out whose rooms are whose, after all.
Thinking, thinking...]

[And she strikes her palm with her fist!]

Ahh, I've got it! How about we go back to the palace, and I introduce you to the birds and reptiles?
I can bring my camera along, too; you've got the perfect face for stupid expressions, so I wouldn't want to miss a photo opportunity like that.

[Especially since Hinata doesn't show up on film as more than a blob of shadow... his stupid faces are hard to catch, now.
She needs a replacement!!]

[You know, Karamatsu probably shouldn't look as pleased as he does to be told he makes stupid expressions, but there he is, grinning away at Mahiru's suggestion. Really though, it's the idea that she'll be giving him even more attention and recognition, all while taking pictures of him? There's absolutely no downside to this.]

I would be more than happy to provide my perfect image as your photography subject, Koizumi!

[Oh, good. He didn't argue, which means he agrees his face is stupid!!
Humility is important in a guy, you know!!]

Let's go, then. I'm sure the animals would be happy to have some company.

[To the palace!!
It may be nighttime, but there's probably quite a few of their animal friends awake; maybe not the birds, but probably the snakes!!
Which will probably be the best choice for stupid expressions from Karamatsu.]

[It gets easy to go along with quips like that when you hear them so often. He might not even have really noticed.

Either way, Karamatsu continues to follow Mahiru around as she leads him back to the palace. Now, he's never claimed to be an animal person. That's more Ichimatsu's speed, and even then he's more connected to cats, not really much else. Karamatsu won't decline to pet a cat when he sees it (and he's put Hina back down by the time they reach the palace, unsure what the protocol is for...carrying small kittens into rooms where snakes are), but when he arrives here...

...well. It's admittedly a lot to take in all at once.]

Oh, that's...

[He takes a breath, hesitating in the doorway as his eyes immediately zero in on those aforementioned snakes.]

There are- [Cough.] -quite a few creatures in here, aren't there...?

[He has yet to actually walk inside.]

[Whereas she's already over by the tanks, tiptoeing up so she can reach in and pick up one of the geckos.
At least snakes aren't the only kind of reptiles in here??]

Well, of course. My friend is the Super High School Level Animal Breeder - I think I mentioned this earlier?
He's always bringing new animals home to take care of. Just the other day, he brought home a box of kittens; but they're over in the keep.

[Leopard gecko get!! He's a handsome little guy, and seems particularly content climbing onto her arm.
She turns around to show him... only to see him still in the doorway.]

... You can come in all the way, y'know.
It's not like I'm going to tip over the snakes' tanks and let them free or something.

[Despite how calm she seems around the reptiles, she is only Okay with the snakes.
Not entirely at "pick up and hold" level of comfort, yet.]

[...oh, right. Karamatsu clears his throat again, stepping on into the room as Mahiru lifts the gecko from its tank.]

Right, of course! I just didn't want to...intrude...

[He trails off as he walks over, keeping his gaze turned to the leopard gecko. The snakes aren't too bad in and of themselves. They're pretty cool, actually...just so long as they're in there, and he's out here.

But something Mahiru says catches his attention, taking his mind off the snakes for a moment.]

You keep saying that..."Super High School Level". What does that mean?

Mm?

[- Oh, right. Worlds that don't have Hope's Peak. Those are a thing.
She scratches the leopard gecko a bit, as she leans against a nearby table.]

... It means we're good at what we do.
My classmates and I all went to an academy that recruits people based on their talents, and how great they are with them...
Like my friend, the Animal Breeder. He's brought a couple species back from extinction.

[That's just coupled with a casual shrug. You get used to hearing about everyone's achievements, after a while.]

They all have some pretty admirable talents. You should talk to them, when you get the chance.
You might learn something.

[... This also means she's a high schooler, apparently.]

[...if she hadn't told him that, he might have never guessed. It doesn't help that he and his siblings look like they should still be in highschool, as opposed to their early twenties.

It seems very ironic, somehow, that Karamatsu would manage to run into a group who actually had real talents and had accomplished great things, whereas he...has done absolutely nothing his whole life. He's not going to let that bring him down or anything, but he still can't help but feel a little pang of jealousy.]

So, if I were to guess...your talent is your photography, right?

[She looks down at the gecko when he asks that, acting like she's just focused on scratching him.]

Yeah. That's right; I'm the Super High School Level Photographer.
I've won a couple awards for my photos, but... that's about it.

["I've won awards, but it's no big deal." How could someone even think of winning awards like that...]

... I could tell you my classmates' talents, if you'd like.
It'd probably help you to get to know them better, when you finally meet them.
And besides - their talents are all pretty interesting.

[Karamatsu wanders a bit closer, his hands in his pockets as he eyes the gecko in Mahiru's hands. She's holding it like it's just nothing at all...giving it scratches as if it were a cat. He's not sure why that's amusing to him.]

Mm...alright! I'm listening.

[He's actually curious- what talents could these classmates of hers have that are so good that they're given the "highest level", so to speak?]

[Yes, good, accept the bait and listen to how cool her friends are instead --]

Well, where should I start... the guys, I guess. I've already mentioned Tanaka, the Animal Breeder, and Kuzuryuu, the Yakuza heir...
Our friend Hinata is also here, but no one can remember his talent.

[If he had one. Poor ol' Bagel.]

Those three are the only ones who are here, with us. The rest of the guys, though...

There's Souda, the Mechanic.
He's lazy and stupid, but he's skilled enough to make a running engine out of anything.
I'm pretty sure he did that with an alarm clock, at some point.

Nidai is the Team Manager; he managed to help several failing teams, not only saving them from disbanding altogether, but bringing them to championships, too.
He's even better than I am at motivating people. It's pretty admirable.

Hanamura's the Cook. I've only had his food once, and while I don't like him as a person...
I'd put up with having him around if it's just for a meal or two.

And then there's Togami. The Affluent Progeny; he's the heir to the Togami Corporation, a financial giant.
I'm not actually sure what kind of talent that is... He was great at leading people, though.

All of them are world renown for their skills. It's pretty amazing.
Even Hanamura, who's intolerable in person, is definitely well known for his talent.

[Just... y'know, casually super harsh about her guy friends.
And purposely forgetting someone, of course.]

[Karamatsu listens intently to what Mahiru has to say, taking particular note of those classmates that she mentioned that are actually around in this place. He has a feeling he might run into the Animal Breeder first, given all of the...ah...animals. The Yakuza he's a bit more hesitant about meeting, but hopefully Mahiru will put in a good word for him. Maybe.

Out of the others, Karamatsu finds himself feeling for the one named Hanamura. "Intolerable in person" pretty much describes Karamatsu to a T, so of course he's going to identify with him at least a little bit, which is probably a bad thing...oh well.]

World renowned...I don't think I've ever met anyone that affluent in my life.

[Well, no...there is Hatabou, but he's an outlier and should not be counted.]

I know... It sounds a little intimidating, huh?
But they're a bunch of friendly weirdoes; they don't really live up to their fame at all.

... Besides Togami.

[You could say he was... larger than life.]

The girls are all much more impressive to me, though.
