MARCH TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.

  • The Reserve date is MARCH 25th 12:01AM EST.
  • There is an Enable Me / App this Plz to see what some people are offering or would love to play.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

Peacefully. Won't that be nice.

[Mello does draw back. It's an abrupt, disgusted motion, and his general displeasure is apparent as he gives the younger(??) man some space. His spade-ended tail twitches in aggravation and he makes no effort to keep his hooves from clopping heavily against the ground when he steps. Most of his scales are covered by clothing, save for the small amount on his hands and some on his neck. These are a deep purple, though other colors are often reflected by the light depending on where he stands.

He had originally worn gloves, as well as sunglasses to cover the dark sclera of his eyes, but there's little point in that now when some of his other features are so obvious and far more difficult to conceal.]

I'm not really interested in talking, to be honest.

[Not like this. Not when he's already made a mistake in playing a card too soon. It had simply felt so liberating to say it to the man they'd all been chasing for so long, only for the reality of the matter to be devastating.]

[Since Light was on the bad end of the violent option, peaceful would be nice. In a physical alteration, he really stands little chance, though he's not a violent person by nature. He uses his brain, his planning skills, his acting, and all manner of other skills before resorting to violence.

Not to say he hasn't thrown the occasional punch. L had an amazing skill of getting under someone's skin.

A hand comes up to his neck, fingers long, something much more human than those that had been around his neck. For now.

Something had changed his mind. The fact it was a case of mistaken identity wasn't likely. Was someone else from the investigation team also here? Someone who might have called him off? Or, had he acted preemptively and realized his mistake? As he had thought before, most of those after him wanted proof, not just his death. Who was this other ...thing working with? Only one other person was so sure of his identity as Kira other than Misa and Ryuk.

Was this another of L's employees?

As close as you should keep your friends, it was important to keep your enemies closer. He and L had been the walking personification of such a trope.

The first step was to not show disgust at his form. That was easy enough to do. It was indeed horrific, but it wasn't disgusting. Fear was fine. Probably, fear was preferred. It wouldn't take much acting for that emotion, as his heart continued to beat a bit too heavily in his chest.]

If you're no longer interested in violence, I would at least be a little more relieved. But I do have one question. Is Kira also known here? I hadn't heard the name since waking up.

[How good was his hearing? Would he notice if Light followed? He didn't have a lot of information to work with.]

[There he is, already prying. Mello might not be able to undo his mistake, but he can at least keep himself from giving away too much else. He can practically see the togs turning in Light's mind from where he stands.

He tilts his head, giving the other man a curious look, and plays dumb.]

I can't say I know what you're talking about.

[After all, he could have said any number of names under his breath, and a guilty conscience could have interpreted it wrong. And even if that doesn't fly, Light has no way to pry any more from him than he wants to give. He'll have to disconnect himself from L and make things as frustrating for this would-be god as possible.]

I was simply looking for a meal.

[He could make one of Light. It would be so simple. Could a monster even return after having their soul eaten? How would that even feel?

The demon runs his tongue over sharpened teeth.]

[The plan may have worked if Light wasn't so sure of his own mind. He had heard the name Kira. That he is backtracking instead of shrugging it off confirmed what Light was thinking: he did in fact have suspicions about Light. But, they hadn't planned a direct attack. This wasn't an interrogation, it had been meant to be a sentencing.

Light could point that much out, push him for an answer, but that would be stupid with their differing strength levels. If this monster decided he didn't like what he heard, Light could end up dead. Obviously, he had a temper that would overcome rationale, so his stance about others wanting to catch him more than sentence him only applied so far. It was best to attack, but not when you had such a great chance to lose. The smarter move would be to stay alive to further investigate him.

All of this means he would probably know Light knew it to be a lie.]

I think we both know that to not be the truth, but since I do know of Kira, I understand the reason for secrecy.

[Just how bold was this boy? Light and L had both decided it was best to keep their enemies close, but it was a move that took confidence. Rash often did come with a certain amount of bold, so maybe he could work his way in here too.]

I would be far more useful alive than as a snack. [It was disconcerting to be looked at by the thing that owned those teeth.] I've been following Kira as well. You seem to have a particular hate for him. [For me. I have to be careful.] Did he kill someone close to you?

[Such a temper could have easily come from his parents, rather it be by nature or nurture. It made the likelihood of a criminal parent higher.]

You know, you're starting to make me regret not eating you. You talk too much.

[There's no way Mello is going to change his tune now. There's one thing he had over Kira when they faced each other before, and that's unpredictability. That'll have to work for him here too, as Light knows even less about him than he did before. He might know his face, but here he has no book to help him.]

And you make a lot of assumptions on nothing.

[Everything else Light addressed is ignored. He doesn't have to play the nice guy, and he certainly doesn't owe him any answers.

Abruptly, he turns on his hooves and begins walking lazily back out toward the street. His ex-victim is free to follow, of course. Chances are he will, now that he's hoping Mello will continue to slip up and reveal information.]

I still need a meal, since you're basically worthless. How about a free hunting lesson? You'll be one of us soon anyway.

[In this situation, Mello has multiple advantages. Light is new, without shelter or food or company in which to contact, whereas his newfound enemy had been here for some time. That time could have been used to set up a base and make connections, to gain knowledge and with it, power. He realizes where he stands. While his ego could be dangerously large at times, he's normally good at making unbiased assessments before planning.

The assumptions aren't based on nothing, and he suspects Mello knows as much. They're educated guesses, and he feels confident enough to follow that thread for now. If he's wrong, he hasn't lost enough ground to change anything, but he doesn't think he is.

Mello is right in that Light follows, but he does it knowing it's expected. That was okay. Even if both people knew a game was being played, there would still be a winner, and being with Mello would have it's advantages. Not only would he have time to observe, but he was less likely to be attacked if with another monster.

Besides, Mello didn't eat him. For all his words and lies and hidden truths, he didn't eat him, and that spoke a thousand words.

What was he saving him for? How much safety could he expect from that?]

What do you mean by meal? [His pamphlets had been dropped when he was grabbed.] Human flesh? [One had said as much, didn't it?]

Quite a situation we're put in, isn't it?

[He doesn't directly answer the question, of course. As a demon, Mello eats only the soul of an individual. They still live afterward - but only as a wonderful little flesh puppet. They have no mind left to speak of. He doesn't eat their flesh, nor even their energy. But why let Light in on the details of various monsters and their feeding habits just yet? He's free to learn all that on his own.]

You're an upstanding individual, aren't you? [Ha.] It'll be interesting to see how you deal with things.

[Fail to feed and you die, but it isn't a permanent death and thus not an escape. Die too often and you may forget everything you once valued in the first place.]

Do you think you'll fight it?

[He leads them both out of the crowded streets to somewhere less occupied. There are a lot of anti-monster sentiments going around among the townspeople both in Vandare and Bavan, so he'd rather not attract any more attention than he already has. He looks like an easier target, not being fully transformed yet.]
