TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

• You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.

• Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
• Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[It feels surreal for him to be looking at her like this, so familiar and yet so changed. He had felt a similar feeling when he visited her at the care facility for the first time and the moment he looked into her eyes the wrinkles and the white hair had fallen away and he had seen the woman he loved.

But this time it was really Peggy, his Peggy. Not the one who had lived a whole life without him.]

The last thing I remember is...Natasha and I were training our new team of Avengers. [He pauses, realizing there is no way she would understand what he's talking about.] It's a long story.

[cryogenics]

Each other.

[Or something. He didn't exactly know how battering at each other would change anything for the gods.] I'm not sure if anyone's seen a god directly. But they're there. They can force people to do things.

[Of all the reactions his eccentric wardrobe has garnered, this is the one he never could have anticipated. Dreamed of, perhaps, but only in the way that the pragmatist dreams of the unattainable, viewing it fondly from afar without ever managing to let go of the certainty that it will never actually be theirs. For once, he truly does not know how to react. He can only stare at her, his eyes wide behind his dark sunglasses, his lips parted slightly in surprise, and the large, bat-like ears on the sides of his head jutting forward curiously. Finally he stammers out] It's...magenta, actually. But thank you.

No, I know about Natasha and the Avengers. [She's been living with Bucky (platonically, she promises) since she got here and gradually getting to know Tony and Natasha better. She knows about the superhero exploits.

She doesn't know anything about a new Avengers team, but that could either be because her knowledge is limited or he's just from further along than the others. Either way, it means that he's from a different time from her now, and he's had time to grow and change and move on with his life. She's not sure if he wants to be with her anymore, since she's his ancient past.] They're in good hands.

[It feels like she should say something. Something a little more meaningful than asking about when he's from. She should tell him that she misses him and she loves him and she doesn't want to let time get away from them again--but the words are stuck, unarticulated in her throat.]

Hey! What- Shit!

[Akari's knees hit the ground next to her as he quickly assesses the situation. He had first been alarmed to her presence when he had heard her scream. The strange way it had sounded -- as if somebody tried to keep it silent -- had hurried his steps and when the distinct odor of fresh blood suddenly joined it he had broken into a run.

Situations like this are why he has taken up on patrolling during the foggy nights again; somebody always lost their head or otherwise fucked up and then some innocent poor bastard is left in a puddle of their own blood! Except...

Standing up he stretches his neck and casts a long look around, sucking the air in through parted lips as he uses all of his senses - including his own pair of long, fuzzy moth antennae on top of his head - in order to determine if there is another presence around or not. Coming up with nothing he grimaces as he crouches down next to Chise once more, giving her a more careful once over. Blood and torn clothes and tissue, but no sign of an external attack. ....a particularly bad transformation?]

...hey. [Cleaning his throat and speaking with a voice he has unconsciously lowered to sound more reassuring he gives her a careful prod.] Can you hear me? I don't know you but you need to wake up! Lying in a place like this in such a state is dangerous!

[He blinks in surprise, wondering how she could possibly know, but then he remembers where they are. Steve might not have been here for very long but he has learned a few things. Like the fact that people can come and go without reason and that someone could arrive multiple times and not remember previous visits. Peggy could know about the future because one of his teammates were here at some point, or maybe he told her himself.

Has he mentioned how he hates all time-travel related things?]

I'm almost afraid to ask how you know. [Especially if it turns out he had told her. Just thinking that he could have possibly shared moments with her that he doesn't remember is enough to make his chest tighten.]

So we're here because the gods of this place are having a spat? [He can't say he's very impressed.]

Force people...like with mind control? [Isn't that familiar.]

Yeah. Nothing a night's sleep and a pretty nurse couldn't fix in a day or two.

[Wiping some leftover blood from the corner of his lips Akari grins tiredly at his own joke. The expression only lasts for a second before his eyes settle on the one who had asked him and he frowns in thought.]

How about you? I don't think I've seen you around before.

[Which doesn't have to mean anything, but it would at least explain why the goblin with the moth antennae on top of his head has been ushered into this room by a very jumpy looking waitress.]

Not in the way you mean. Not anymore, at least. Rumlow was here when I first got here.

No sign of him in over four months, though.

[Steve might as well know that was on the table.]

Steve, Barnes is here.

[She doesn't see any reason to draw it out.]

[There is no good answer to this question, only an honest one.]

You told me about a little about it. Then when you disappeared, Tony and Natasha told me a little more.

[She's tempted to hold back on all the things she's learned, to spare him, but it isn't fair to him. She owes him honesty.]

I learned a little more from reading files on the Winter Soldier. Bucky's here, too. He's better than he was. I can sometimes make him laugh. [She's nervous to tell Steve that she's been living alone with his best friend for months. She and Bucky both know that it's a platonic arrangement, and the people of the future don't care, but Steve is from their time and grew up with its sensibilities. She doesn't like the thought of Steve thinking she'd been sleeping with his best friend while he's so vulnerable. But still--she wants Steve to know that Bucky's being taken care of, and he's coming more into his own every day.]

[Well, that's one less thing Steve has to worry about at least. He could do without the presence of HYDRA hanging around.]

Good. It seems like we have enough to deal with here without adding HYDRA to the mix.

[His body stills, eyes searching her face for a hint of a lie. He doesn't believe that Natasha would lie about this, she has no reason to, but after months of searching he finds it hard to process that Bucky is here.]

...How is he?

[cryogenics]

Yeah. [Exactly like all of that.] They get in people's heads.

[But that wasn't even the worst part. But on the other hand, he wished all he had to worry about was turning into a monster and eating people. His head had been fucked with enough.]

It's bespoke, isn't it? I can't imagine this color coming off a rack.

[It's just such a nifty ensemble! Lorraine's grin is entirely genuine, and as she takes a closer look at the fabric her enthusiasm only rises. The color itself is amazing, but if he added just a little sparkle, he could take it to a whole new level.]

Have you given any thought to jeweled cufflinks?

[Furthermore, do they sell BeDazzler kits in this world? Heck, as long as there are rhinestones she can make do with some jewelry adhesive and tweezers.]

A lover? How would that help you in combat if someone wanted to rip your chest open and use your heart to give as a gift to the gods? Ah, but I guess being choked to death by your loved one, their sweet embrace is just as nice, huh? Is that what you mean by being a lover?

[ Maybe Yamato should just chill out? This is not that type of yandere love but alright. ] Though, I could fight for you if you can't protect yourself, I can also teach you.

[ Give him a moment to jump into another tree, rustling leaves and such that they have to go through. He even shakes his head to get out the leaves that get stuck and a small burble as he looks at the drop under them. ] I have to make sure that you don't slip so.. [ Digging his talons deep into the others clothing, is that a rip we hear? ] Alright..

[There's a twinge in his chest that comes from hearing he exact thing he had hoped he wouldn't. He's been here before and he doesn't remember a moment of it. Nothing had even seemed vaguely familiar when he first arrived. Instead it had been like he was seeing if for the first time.

He hates this feeling of not knowing. He wants to ask her about everything. Everything he had said or did the last time he was here. But what good would that do? It's likely that he will remember.]

Tony and Natasha...are they still here?

[He winces when she mentions the Winter Soldier, the guilt of what had been done to Bucky still stings him. He's about to ask her how she got access to those files when what she says next stops him.

Bucky is here.]

Does he remember you? Or me?

If that was their goal for us then they picked the wrong guys.

[He doesn't care what he has to do but there is no way he'll allow anyone else to mess with Bucky's head.]

Does their mind control only work on people who agree to follow them or does it extend to everyone?

[Now that one is so far out of left field that Blue tilts his head and goes right back to frowning.]

Why would I be able to breathe underwater?

[Link glances away, eyes wandering over the pavement. He brings one hand up to scratch at the back of his neck.]

Oh, well. I had a blue tunic back home and it meant I could breathe underwater.

[And hadn't he said something about Red coming up with the names?]

A red one too, it let me...['be in hot places' sounds really stupid, but how else does he describe that?]...go into a volcano.

[And also green obviously, but that one didn't do anything. And...well. He shrugs, hand dropping back down to his side.]

I've never worn purple.

All things considered? Better than I would have expected.

[Natasha's still getting used to her relationship with Barnes here. If it could be called a relationship, exactly.

She'd been at his birthday party. That had to count for something.]

There's still a lot he doesn't know. He's still figuring out how to be a person again rather than a weapon.

Also—he's a bear sometimes.

Everyone. I'm not following either of them, and neither are a few people I know. We were still effected.

[He wished he was safe from that kind of thing. Maybe the mountain god would have been able to help them.]

I don't want to make you laugh.

...You don't laugh for good reasons. [That much he's able to tell if you thought all that was comedy.]

[It hurts that he doesn't remember, but she can push it aside. She had only been with him briefly before he disappeared. They hadn't even had a chance to really talk about how they felt about each other. It's hard to think about.]

They are. Tony is remarkably like his father and Natasha is pleasant company. Also, they're a gargoyle and a giant spider, respectively.

[Bucky is Steve's best friend. She might as well tell him everything--save what Bucky has told her in confidence. That, Bucky can tell Steve on his own.] He doesn't remember much before your... incident in the future. He doesn't remember much about our time together, either, but I think you had told him about me so he already knew I was a friend when I came here. You and I moved in with him when we got here at first, and I stayed with him after you disappeared. He's doing fantastically well, all things considered, but... I didn't think it'd be best for him to live alone.

[She hopes Steve understands that there's nothing untoward going on. And if she's really being honest, she doesn't really want to live alone either. She thought it was hard in New York without any family or friends. In Ryslig, most people are scared of her, and nearly everyone is from a time long after her own. The only familiar face she has doesn't even remember her, but Bucky's all she really has. Well, until now.]

[Edgeworth's frown deepens. It also means you're probably more of a target now than ever before, he can't help thinking, but he restrains himself from saying it outright. As monsters and abductees they get so few victories. He doesn't have the heart to take this one from the other man. He forces a smirk onto his lips, baring just a hint of fang.]

No? I do hope I'm not losing my touch. [Then a shrug to make it clear he's not being serious.] You're right, I am a vampire. And you are a...shade?

[A lump forms in his throat but he swallows it down. He knew that it would be a long road for Bucky to recover his memories. To remember the man he had been. He even knew that however things ended up Bucky would probably never completely be the man he remembers. But to be honest, Steve doesn't think he's quite the same man either.]

I'm just glad that he's starting to recover. I think the lack of HYDRA cronies around will help a lot with that. [He hopes.]

...A bear. [After seeing what Natasha has become it's almost anticlimactic.] Let me guess...polar bear?

Don't let Tony ever hear you say that. I get the feeling that he and Howard didn't get along somehow, but I never asked him about it. It seems like a touchy subject for him. [A gargoyle, a spider, and a werewolf. If only the people they protected back home could see them now. They'd probably run in the opposite direction.

He could hear a hint of hesitancy in her voice but he's not sure why. Is she worried about upsetting him by telling him about things he doesn't remember? It's true that it hurts to hear about, but none of that is her fault.

In fact, he's relieved to hear that she and Bucky are living together. He's glad that they have had each other to rely on in his absence.]

I'm glad to hear it. I'm sure having you around has helped him. Even if he doesn't remember much. It must have been a shock to you seeing him again and finding out what happened.
