TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!

Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[ Hm, what if it wasn't Eikichi? She's been fooled before and he's not turning around towards her. Or if it is Eikichi, maybe he's hideously deformed from this monster business!? Oh no her poor Eikichi! She'll love him no matter what he looks like now! ]

You rescued me in the Scorpio Temple. Eikichi-kun, please turn to me?

[So she knew then...maybe it wouldn't be so bad. But as he turns he's trembling...

But there she is. He wants to run a hand into her hair, but it serves as a reminder of how much taller he is now. Before it was evident...now it's just ridiculous. Slowly...he removes the hood from his face first, and she might already have grasped at his hands and the longer nails - which, admittedly still fit with his personality. But the horns, and the goat ears, folded back, make him feel scared that she might just take off and run.]

U-um...I-im not a Shadow babe, I promise!

[He sounds desperate. For her, it be weird, the confidence that Eikichi had just a short while ago is gone, but for him, he had a year of living in Ryslig to tear away at it. It will grow back, but it's suffered a serious setback.]

[She's not sure what she's expecting when he turns. A ghost. A kappa. An oni maybe. She takes note of the longer nails - claws? - and has to admit she's surprised to see what's underneath.

Not afraid though. Even with the Shadow she wasn't afraid. It felt off but had still been Eikichi in a way. Plus the nervous lack of confidence in Eikichi's voice isn't something the shadow displayed. Not really something Eikichi had shown, either, but if she'd turned into a random monster, she'd be self-concious as well.

Rather than taking off and running she steps forward and raises her hands. It's still Eikichi, ears and horns and fur otherwise. It's still the same ridiculous blue hair, still the same face. Which she cups with her hands to gently tug, making him bend so she can wrap her arms around his neck in a hug.]

I know. I know it's you.

[The touch immediately quells any fear that might have been bubbling in his stomach and he grows almost to a still, as he feels her hands on his face. He closes his eyes, lip quavering slightly as he bites down on his lip. Hell no he ain't gonna...too late.

As he feels the tug, he readily bends a little, the shape of his new legs making it easy. He doesn't want her to look down at them - at least not yet. He'd always remain a little bit self-conscious, Miyabi or anyone else otherwise. Slowly his own hands come to embrace her in a hug and she might get flashes of those clawed hands with black nails - which considering his personality almost seem like an extension of who he is.]

H-ha yeah...I figured you would...m-man. I guess it's m-my turn to be on the side of this, huh?

[She closes her eyes as she feels the returning hug, relaxing from tension she wasn't aware she was holding. Some part of her had been wondering if whatever had changed him, this Fog or otherwise, had changed his feelings too. It doesn't seem the case however, and she rubs the back of his neck a little.

Is that really fur?]

After all you've done, I think I can give a little back.

[Eventually she'll step back though to look him over, her hands shyly going to his to take hold of them, a little frown coming to her face.]

Are the rumours true?

[He looks away for a second, biting his lip again. Rumors. Why did it always have to be rumors huh? But dammit...he holds on to her hands like his lifeline.]

Yeah...it's true. Well some of them are. Never saw someone turn into an axehound or a bunnyipyip...

[He looks so upset, it makes her frown a little more. She glances down at their hands for a moment, noting the differences, how big his hands were in comparison. She'd been so unsure about herself before, and still sort of was, but she was sure enough she could offer him a little encouragement.

So she glances back up and offers him a smile.]

It'll be okay. [Oof that sounded so lame, come on Miyabi, you could do better!] I-I mean about the changes, if you're worried, I have you to help right?

[That sounded lamer.]

[He lets out a sad sigh before smiling back at her. Oh Miyabi. He hates this world so much and what it does to them, but even this hell could be a little better if she was there. It wouldn't erase the guilt. It wouldn't make what he has to do go away but, at least...there would be someone to stand by his side.]

Yeah I'll be there when you do. I just don't want you to suffer...

[But he knows that she will no matter how hard he tries screaming at the sun.]

I...um...maybe we should go somewhere else that isn't here.

[His suggestions makes her look around and nod, picking up her pad and pencil from where they'd dropped when she hugged him. She tucks the pencil behind her ear for safe keeping, holds the pad with one hand and Eikichi's hand with the other.

It makes her a little self-conscious, people are looking, but she's happy to be with Eikichi. No matter what. Though she'll probably need that hand to write with later.]

Lead the way. Um, would you mind if I ask questions? A lot of the pamphlets were less than helpful. I know it's probably a touchy subject though.

[ The walking stops, if just for a bit. Eikichi had a feeling this was coming, but it was still hard to talk about. Still, out of all the people in the world...he'd never lie to her. His voice sounds...apologizing.]

If this is about what I think you're asking then...yeah. Yeah we have to otherwise we go crazy and cause even more harm.

[The hesitation is all the answer she needs before he actually speaks up, and she's silent as he confirms it. So humans really were... which means...]

Eikichi-kun, how long have you been here?

[For her, it'd been mere moments. He'd just left after rescuing her. But most of the pamphlets said months to change...]

[ He...yeah. ]

Over a year...[ And in a way, older than her now. That realization hit him like a ton of bricks. ] ...it was pretty lonely without you.

[... Oh. She gives his hand a soft squeeze because, wow. It's sort of hard to digest, and digesting weird things is her job.]

I'm sorry I made you wait for so long. I'm here now.

[Whether that's a good thing or not. Still, having to deal with that for a year. Not alone, she's sure he's made friends here, he's just that type of guy that people flock to. But--]

Is anyone else here?

[He thinks about it, before shaking his head.]

Not anyone that you know, no.
