- The Reserve date is 01/29.
- Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
- Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.
Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.
There is nothing to forgive. Welcome back! :D
[There's nothing to be gained from complaining about it, though, so he just heaves a single, slightly exasperated sigh ("slightly" may mean something a little different for him that for most, in this context) and starts gathering up the spilled pamphlets. If he gets a look at the other hand, Izuminokami might see a different seal stamped there -- the three heart-shaped leaves of the Tokugawa family.]
[Hijikata, for his part, is only just now finally getting around to looking at the newcomer at all. Still sitting, he looks up -- and his eye is immediately caught by the bold sky blue of a familiar haori. (Is it a haori? It's slung over his shoulders like a cape, but when he looks to the hem, he sees the white triangle-mountains right where they should be.)]
[Ah.]
[He takes in the rest with a brisk, all-business sort of speed, his glance flickering all over the stranger as he catalogues all the little details in his mind. The face is unfamiliar to him, and the uniform isn't standard. Long hair. A lot of red -- the same red he favored as a flashy young man years ago, the same red that his scales are now. And there, at the lower part of his belt, Hijikata's own family seal...]
[The only people he's seen here in Shinsengumi-related clothes (aside, of course, from Souji) have been Horikawa and Yamato, and he knows other swords are here. If a stranger is wearing the blue and white, it seems most likely that he's one of their swords. And from there, it doesn't take a genius to put together the other details and come to a conclusion.]
You're...
...Izuminokami Kanesada?
[Briefly, his gaze flicks down towards the leg of the table that both of his (physical, non-humanoid) swords are propped up against, ready for him to grab if trouble arises.]
no subject
now, in most cases when someone recognizes Izuminokami, he would nod eagerly and proudly; talking about how popular he is- oh, and not to mention how strong and cool he is as well! except, Izuminokami only follows Hijikata's gaze down to the swords-
wait.
what?
he's still silent, looking at the swords then back up at Hijikata; he repeats that for a few times. he also attempts to open his mouth to speak, but no words come out yet (he's still trying to gather details until they click). and now he mutters to himself, under his breath: ]
That's Kunihiro.. and... [ he rubs his eyes with his sleeve, looks around, then down at the swords. he also remembers the seals he got a peek of briefly... ]
Wait... [ it's obvious now, how it just kind of clicks. almost like instinct, in a sense. Izuminokami's head finally snaps up, eyes wide.
it's written all over his face that Izuminokami is having quite some difficulties right now, mostly conflicting thoughts. and if there's one thing that's clear, Izuminokami isn't good at hiding such emotions written all over his face like Horikawa.
usually it was Izuminokami that kept everyone (mostly all the Shinsengumi swords) on their toes about their duty back at the citadel. keeping history right and true to itself. that also means not interfering with history, and not messing up any slightest detail. he's even gotten onto the others during sorties about it when he hears those longing comments about their previous masters. yet, Izuminokami was recognized right off the bat. ah... there isn't really anything to hide considering he has that look on his face that he's been busted already. so, he finally answers Hijikata in the most elegant way possible (not really): ]
Is it really- this doesn't make sense... How did you get here- where am I and... [ he can't help but get extremely overwhelmed because there's almost too many questions he wants to ask, his sentences are now getting mixed up and it just sounds as if he's babbling complete nonsense. ]
Y...Yes?
[ what does he even do in a situation like this!? ]
no subject
[And what he does see in those reactions is rather predictable, remembering how Horikawa had tried to hide his nature from him in the first weeks that he'd known him, until the swords seemed to have all decided that the strange nature of time in this place rendered their hesitance pointless. They're obviously not supposed to interfere with their old masters' lives, so it makes sense that he'd look like a kid caught getting into trouble when he was recognized so easily.]
That's a lot of questions. I'm sure you have more.
[He takes some money out of his pocket and sets it on the table -- enough to cover his drink and leave a decent tip -- then picks up both swords and stands.]
Some of the answers will take a while. Have you got a place to stay yet?
[He hesitates a little -- his swords are something he fought hard for the right to bear, and he paid a price for them here, so he's protective of their physical vessels -- but everyone comes here unarmed, and that has to be even stranger for the swords than for him. So after a moment, he offers Izuminokami to... to himself? Offers the sword-shaped sword to the man-shaped sword.]
[His life is so strange.]

when Hijikata finally stands, Izuminokami is staring at him finally taking in more of the finer details. he, well mostly, managed to get use to the scales and whatnot but more importantly (pretending as if those extra details don't exist) he's looking at the hair, face, the stature... not to mention, listening to the familiar straightforward manner of speech.
the more he talks to Izuminokami the more tears that are pricking the corner of his eyes. Izuminokami only manages to shake his head at Hijikata's question and then he was also presented with his sword? Izuminokami is also a bit hesitant, and his eyes flicker down to stare at the vessel. it's a familiar thing to him naturally (it is him) so he gingerly wraps his fingers around the vessel to retrieve it.
and just like a dam breaking, he couldn't hold back the emotions that have been welling up. he can almost hear Horikawa in his head saying 'you're crying, you know?'. ]
I... [ sniffle. the tears are finally streaming down his cheeks, just like when Izuminokami and Horikawa visited Hakodate for a sortie. ] I missed you so much...
[ he's going to have his moment right now, so it might take a bit for him to calm down. ]
/Hakodate icon because what are feelings
[For Izuminokami especially, perhaps, who was such a new blade when he passed into his hands. How long did it take to make a tsukumogami, again? A hundred years, something like that, right? He's long since figured out that he isn't likely to have had more than a handful of years left, so a lot of time must have passed -- but, like Horikawa, it seems Izuminokami hasn't ever forgotten him.]
[So it's still a little strange to see him so emotional, but maybe this isn't a strange situation for it. He doesn't tell him to stop or anything, just reaches into his (neatly tailored) jacket to take a pocket handkerchief out of his waistcoat's breast pocket and holds it out to him, too.]
It's good to finally meet you.
8_8 how dare you
so it definitely was just... something, seeing his master- the only one he was forged specifically for- in this predicament. it's still odd, considering the circumstances that still don't make too much sense to Izuminokami, but that isn't stopping those stream of delighted tears from rolling down his cheeks.
there's a small sniffle and hiccup, finally trying to calm down. first, Izuminokami rubs an eye with a sleeve before noticing the handkerchief held out to him which he does take. he makes a scramble to quickly wipe his eyes and nose. he has to make himself look cool for Hijikata, of course..!! ]
Y...Yes! [ standing up straight! gotta look cool! though he's still tripping over his words from his sudden emotional fit- he's still trying to compose himself. but if you haven't notice, there may be a little sparkle in his eye because he's with Hijikata? he's awestruck. ] I ... won't let you down, while I'm here!
[ points to himself! look at how cool he looks? no, not really, his cheeks are still really red from crying and whatnot. oh, right... the handkerchief. uhm.
he holds it back out to Hijikata? do you want this back??? ]
There is no excuse for me tbh
[It's a little odd that, looks aside, the first parts of himself he can see in Izuminokami are things most people don't ever get the chance to see in him -- the depth of feeling he hides under his calm exterior, the need for acknowledgement that ruled him when he was younger.]
[He takes the handkerchief and tosses it into his satchel, then tosses his head slightly to indicate the direction they're going to be going. He doesn't answer Izuminokami's words directly, but maybe his small, relaxed smile says more than words could, anyway.]
Come with me. It's not far to the house.
[They don't stay in Vandare much, but there's a house that's not... legally theirs, probably, but sort of Souji's all the same, and no one will bother them there.]
