JANUARY TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.

  • The Reserve date is 01/29.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.
terribibble: (absolutely very upsetting)

Naw, nothin' like that. Just some blood.

[Some of it's still visible. The water washed most of it out but there are pale pink stains on his shirt collar and coat.]

Why. D'you think somethin' will fall off eventually?

[He can't imagine what. He knows he'll get to keep his legs so long as he's out of the water -- in fact, he can infer he hasn't yet gained the tail, or else that barrel probably would have forced the change. It could count as deep water if you squinted. He had been fully-submerged.]

I have not seen a Merperson walking around on land with missing limbs, so you may be alright on that front.

[ HOWEVER... ] It isn't implausible. [ It is said in a way that Fiddleford should recognize. The wheels in Ford's head are always turning, replaying the scientific method over and over until he can test his hypotheses. ] You will find out soon enough.

Look on the bright side. [ There IS a bright side. ] We can work on conditioning your respiratory functions in a controlled environment so that we can calculate how long you can be out of the water and extend that time span longer and longer.

It is safer than just guessing and winding up hiding in barrels and gutters.
terribibble: (sir i'm so sorry i didn't realize)

[Of course. Everything's an experiment to Ford Pines. There was a time Fiddleford would have thought that was admirable -- a part of him still undeniably does -- but now that's tainted with the knowledge of what that attitude's like when taken to its logical extreme.]

I could get along just fine if I could just --

[He stumbles a step, makes an awful horking sort of sound, and doubles over with his hands on his knees. Whuf. There his lungs are. He takes several long, shaky breaths and then straightens up again.]

There. Now I've just got to learn to do that on purpose.

[He has a sneaking suspicion that this is going to involve being made to switch to his gills and then deprived of water until he can reliably swap back to his lungs on his own. What fun that'll be.]

[ He stops in his tracks with a foot scuffing on the ground as though it were just dragging itself along. He watched Fiddleford double over and nearly barf up his perfectly good lungs. Inwardly, he was thankful that he did not have to deal with any of his body systems going ass backward on him. ]

Which we can work on. As I said. I have enough information on Merpeople in my collection that we can do it seamlessly. [ Relatively speaking. ]

Once you get it sorted out, you can start helping me at work just like old times. It's not the same kind of work, but it's a learning experience. [ because a physicist and an engineer really make for medical doctors how could that go wrong. ]

[Gee, Ford, he has no idea how working with you could go wrong! Oh wait. Yes, he does. He knows there's something, some reason he abandoned the project. There must be. It dances around the back of his mind just out of reach, but he can grasp it just enough to know that Ford Pines is dangerous and being his research partner in any capacity is a bad idea.

And yet... Ford was -- is-- his friend. Whatever it is that happened that he can't entirely remember, it can be averted. There's no reason it has to happen again. He has to believe that, because if he can't then he'll have absolutely nothing to hope for in this place at all and then it really will be unbearable.]

Folks' bodies aren't like machines. I don't know if I'd be much help to you unless you've got any fancy medical doodads you need built.

[He'll just be wary. He's always wary now. First sign of anything being hinky and he's out.]
