TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.

Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

I couldn't possibly ask for repayment when you're clearly so eager for them. It warms me just to see them go to good use. [uh huh matt sure just to "see" them.] But if you wouldn't mind doing me a favor - I can't actually read them myself, if there's anything actually useful in them, maybe you could give me the cliff notes version?

Oh! You cannot? [ She takes them easily enough, wondering for a moment if they're in a foreign language - not really an issue to someone who speaks and reads 30+ languages, usually - but not minding the "favor" in the least. ]

And of course I do not mind doing you that favor! They are all generally on the same topic - that is, how to deal with transforming into a monster, and then informational pamphlets on specific monsters...hm, I wonder if it is impolite to call them "monsters"? Would "creatures" be better, do you think?

Creatures could end up having a similarly bad connotation if used in the wrong way. I think your intent and delivery matter more than the actual words being used.

I take it that the implication is that we are going to transform, eventually? There wouldn't be much other reason to hand these all out.

True. I do not mean anything badly by any term I use, so that should do well enough.

And you are correct, sir! That appears to be what they were holding us for at the hospital. That is, the cuts and scrapes...it seems to be a foregone conclusion that we shall change. I believe the locals wish us to understand the situation so we can make the decision to partake of "alternatives to human flesh" and the like.

Assuming the conclusion is an accurate portrayal of the facts, are there viable alternatives?

...I do not know. Given how interested they seem to be in not being eaten, I have to assume that if there are viable alternatives, they are not the most frequently taken ones, do you not think? Which is not to say that alternatives should not be sought out or considered, but I believe that questioning those who have already gone through the change might be more productive in regards to this topic than reading pamphlets of second-hand information from the locals.

I have no desire to take any lives, but if we are to take into account traditional monster lore, starving ourselves may exacerbate the problem and make it worse in the end...?

Their interest might not necessarily reflect reality, though. They might be grasping at solutions that don't exist in the hopes that someone might figure out how to actually implement them.

You're probably right about questioning the monsters, at least. I don't want to have to kill, either, [good lies are based on truth: he hates being forced to do anything] but we can't simply give up living either. Even if we do turn into something horrific.

...Of course we cannot. I have never had any intention in dying, although I also have no intention to kill...all living beings will do what they must to survive, correct? If it becomes a necessity to kill, we will have to minimize the damage if possible...but for the time being, I intend to take a more optimistic outlook than that.

[ not discounting the possibility, but she figures she may as well hope for the best for now. ]
