TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

• You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
• We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
• Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.


• The Reserve date is 01/29.
• Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
• Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[Just to be clear: Baroona doesn't give a shit about the pamphlet he's holding. It exists. That's good? Maybe? He's got no future plans with it. Hell, he's trying to find a bin to throw it in when she approaches him. Polite guy that he is, he takes the time to listen and in that time the pamphlet takes on new meaning.

Namely, a cure for boredom.

He makes a show of thinking over her offer before frowning and shaking his head.] Sorry. It's pretty helpful. [It's not.] More than that, at least. [He points to the pamphlets offered. Pamphlets that he has absolutely not read. Shrugging, he rests a hand on his hips.] You'll have to give me a better offer.

Eh?! [ Unexpected! So far, everyone has mostly seemed willing to hand them over to her (often without trades)...but finally, she's come upon a cunning collector like herself!

This requires all her skill.

I see...! Yes, it was a low offer, without taking into account your skill level...pray tell, sir, what does your collection hold thus far?

[Normally, he'd realize he's in over his head but—Sir?! He's not old enough to be a sir! The fact that he's blushing just makes the perceived insult worse. No way she's getting this pamphlet without a fight.

A... completely uninformed fight but. Still. A fight. Ish.

He narrows his eyes, holds up the pamphlet and says the first thing that comes to mind.]

[ Snap. That was a terrible move, Baroona, if only because Sonia definitely can read and that name is absolutely a feminine one. That isn't always a tell, of course, but - ]

Oh? Then I expect, sir, you can tell me the name of the author... [ And she reaches out to put one hand on the wrist of his hand, holding the pamphlet, gently but firmly keeping him from turning his hand, though she makes it out to be more of a casual touch.

Granted, she's a normal human being so he can if he cares to check the pamphlet, but even that would be a tell. ]

There are two versions, you see, and I ought to check if this is in fact the one I am searching for.

[Oh, she's good. If he actually knew what they were talking about, Baroona would probably enjoy the challenge. Unfortunately, he knows nothing and just wants to win. Somehow. Some way.

But, ok, seriously first—]

Stop calling me "sir". [He even leans forward for it. High priority there. Every time she says it only earns another blush. Which he hates. It's dumb. This is dumb. She's dumb.

Whatever. He pulls back, careful not to look at the pamphlet. This is war, now. War permits no mistakes.] I'm not from here so it's kind of a hard name to remember. If you tell me the version you're looking for, I can probably tell you.

[ But the blushing is kind of hilarious cute...still, she gives him a million-watt smile at the request. The Super High School Level Princess may not have a ton of traditionally marketable skills (...well, languages and a weird knowledge of weaponry isn't bad, per se, but - ) but her charisma stat was maxed out, more or less.

At least she hasn't started using her royal decree tone yet. She also doesn't appear too bothered by his leaning forward; Sonia is fairly good at standing her own ground, especially in matters of GREAT IMPORT like collecting dumbass monster pamphlets.

So you have read the second version, as well...? You must be the first I have met who has been as knowledgeable as I about these pamphlets. So many people seem to be simply tossing them away!

[God... what does he even react to here? The dismissal of her own last name or the blatant challenge—Why is he even asking? It's the challenge.]

I've read all of them. [No.] There's not a lot else to do. [He shrugs.] There's not much that's entertaining around here. And, like I said, they're helpful. I've been reading what I can pick up, but this is the only one I've kept.

[There's room to continue but there's something more important to address. Namely the thing that will get him to stop going red. Not that she makes it any less frustrating. "Sonia, Nevermind". Rude, but fine. He can do the whole "none of your business" thing, too.]

[ You little liar, she does not say, although her eyes narrow at the second part. Some things might fly over her head (see: Hanamura and poison in his lower extremities) but she's pretty sure he's mocking her, which is entirely not on. ]

Pardon, but is there some reason you are mocking my name, Mr. Baroona? If you do not wish to entertain a trade with me, that is of course your prerogative, but the Nevermind family has held the throne of my country for a very long time now; it is indeed my legal title.

[This is baffling. Didn't rulers want to be remembered? "King Nevermind" kind of contradicted that. Not even Icarus was lazy enough for that and he was pretty much the penultimate ruler of "give no fucks.]

No one would take a family name that tells other to forget them.

[ Now she's speaking in full Royal mode, a note of command clear in her voice. It's been known to make Hinata want to bow down or to steamroll over her classmates, but who knows how it'll effect anyone else? ]

My family is well-loved by the citizenry of Novoselic, and hardly forgettable by any means! It might be true that out country is a small one, but our national pride is nothing to put up your nose at! That includes the lineage and name of the royal family!

Ah - ! I must request you halt! Our trade is not yet concluded, is it?

[It is a pretty intimidating tone, but he's used to those. Being ordered around your whole life helps dull the effect.]

Sorry. [He pulls out a cigarette. Hope you don't mind smoking, Sonia.] I'm just saying history won't remember a family that tells them to forget. I thought being remembered was all royalty wanted.

[But, ok. He stops midway through putting the pamphlet into his pocket and holds it up again.] You still haven't given me a good offer. [He smirks.] Or told me the second version.

That is not at all what royalty is meant to do. Being remembered or being forgotten is unimportant in the end; what matters is upholding one's duty.

[ But that debate probably isn't going anywhere fast... ]

As someone who has read all of them, you can surely tell me which version you hold, no?

[Actually, it's a pretty nice answer to hear. He's not sure how it works in practice—it's hard to believe there's actually a nation where the rulers care less about their reputation than their people—but it's an ideal he's willing to give the benefit of the doubt. And it's more than enough to earn a small smile.]

The only one there is. [Yeah, he's seceding. Maybe it's sappy to call it a change of heart but there's not much else to call it. He holds it out in offering.] At least it's the only one I've seen. Haven't really been looking.

[Which she knows but, eh.] I didn't think you'd put up much of a fight. Serves me right, I guess.

Ah! Thank you so very much, Baroona! [ Sonia will accept happily, anyway...why does no one else care about these pamphlets, she just doesn't understand. They're about like one of her favorite topics and they seem to be attempting to help with the acclimation process... ]

It is indeed the only version there is of this one; with this, my collection nears completion! ...At least, as far as I am aware.

[But ok, more importantly:] Why are you collecting them anyway? There're monsters around. You could just ask one of them.

Ah, I will, of course! But is it not imperative to collect information from as many sources as possible?

[ Honestly, she's just...used to being dropped into a new location and exploring it thoroughly before moving on. She's halfway treating this like a class investigation without realizing it. ]
