Maybe your character has died one too many times, or maybe the gods are up to their tricks again; one way or another, your character has lost all memories of home and now thinks they've always lived in Ryslig as a monster. But have they succumbed to their instincts entirely, or are there still remnants of humanity lurking deep inside? And isn't humanity kind of subjective?? Plus, why would a monster care anyway??? Geez! HOW TO PLAY: - Post a top-level; it's not necessary to include a prompt, but you might want to do so anyway just so people have an idea of what your character is like now! - Feel free to have assumed CR, warped memories of current CR if they don't fit with the "always been a monster" background (example: an argument that occurred in an arrival log could now be remembered as an ordinary monster vs monster feud)... The only limit is your imagination. And the confines of the meme, I guess. - Have fun! It's a meme, after all. - If anyone ever feels up to posting a sister meme on monsterotica please be my guest.

It seems as though Kid travels in the blink of an eye: one moment he's on the branch, the next he's in front of Marco and his jewellery boxes. Someone watching closely might notice that he'd shrunk to a tiny shadow in order to move, but it's not something one expects from an apparent mer.

"Very pretty," he murmurs, surveying the gems. Keeping his movements slow, he picks one up to hold it to the moon. A miss.

Marco does find that odd, but then again, he's always found Kid's appearance odd. Those fins...

Regardless, as he keeps an eye on the thief's movements, he can't help but be curious about that particular motion. "What are you checking for, exactly?"

"Who knows?" A slip of sharp, white teeth in Marco's direction. "A miracle, perhaps?"

It's of small frustration that he doesn't remember what exactly. It should have a red centre when held to moonlight but why?

Kid places the stone back and repeats the exercise with several others. He only picks ones of a certain size out and skips the smaller.

After he picks up on the pattern, Marco helps the process along, passing Kid gems of the size he seems to be looking for. His hand tenses every time the thief reaches for them, even though he's staying true to his word.

"Any luck so far?"

Marco receives a grateful nod for his passes. None of the gems are what he's looking for, and with that conclusion comes an odd, inevitable feeling that he's failed many, many times before. This obsession with gems though, as far as he remembers, is recent.

"Sadly, no." He brings both hands around to grasp one of the mer's. The last stone presses into Marco's palm. "Thank you for allowing me to check them," he says sincerely. Then he releases the other man.

Marco puts the gem back in its box and closes it, but his eyes are on Kid. Not with suspicion, but with concern. He's not sure why, but rather than simple disappointment at the likely failure of his deal, he feels... sorry for the thief, as well.

His bracelet, though - he should focus on that.

"You're welcome. I'm afraid I don't have anything else that fits your description, though."

"That's fine. What you had narrowed down my search." Kid's teeth flash as he rises to his feet with a flourish of his cape.

"Well, I won't keep you any longer," he says, bowing to the mer with a tip of his hat. "I have other places to be tonight and you have to return those beautiful jewels to your collection."

Marco may notice the bracelet is no longer on Kid's wrist. Where is it, you ask? He'd slipped it over Marco's while they clasped hands.
