TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

• You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
• We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
• Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.
• The reserve date is 11/27.
• Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
• Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

In some ways, yeah. They wish they could do to people what whoever's behind this can do to them, though.

I don't even know where to start.

[She snorts, her gaze falling to the ground for a second where in some kind of strange twist of conditioning and impulse, she finds herself struggling against the urge not to tell the truth just now.

After a beat, she says:]

I'm actually glad to see you. I shouldn't be, but you know...

[When she struggles, he waits for it. She'll tell him when she's ready.

It looks like she abandons the mission talk and switches gears instead. He smirks, a little crookedly.]

Are you trying not to get fired from this friendship or something?

Doesn't seem like it makes me the best friend. A real friend would want you a long way from here.

[She speaks a little easier with that, willing to focus on the humor in the situation. That smile is comforting, though. Turns out, she'd missed it.]

[seesbetter]

What. ...what, and miss this?

[He makes a light, "pffffffff" sound.]

Who needs a day off? You can't hog all the "By the way, Fury's not dead" vacation stuff to yourself.

Oh, right. Who would want to miss all this?

[Her words echo his deliberately, wry. One hand rises in a vaguely inclusive circular gestures—the forest, the peninsula, herself and her changes.]

It's a regular theme park.

[seesbetter]

Hey, there's a bright side, at least? You could be one of those unlucky schlubs walking around with spider legs.

[Because really. A literal Black Widow? That kind of humor wouldn't even fly at the circus.]

[Natasha can't really smile at that. She considered it too long. And she's met too many people with spider legs, or with changes that were too on the nose for comfort.]

I could have been, it's true.

[seesbetter]

[Oh no not that face IT'S KRYPTONITE. ]

Hey. It's gonna be okay. It's just another job with no extraction. We're great at those.

[outstandingbalance]

It's not that simple, Clint. It it were, we wouldn't still be here.

[seesbetter]

[he gives her a long look. ]

We work with a giant flying robot and a guy who's pushing a hundred. Simple'd be boring.

[outstandingbalance]

[Her expression firms, but remains grim.]

And Stark's here. Rogers used to be, but he disappeared. I don't know if he got out, or...

[seesbetter]

[well, if she wanted his serious face, he's got it now.]

Sounds like someone's starting a collection. Any word from Banner?

[outstandingbalance]

No sign of Banner or Thor. [She pauses, but he deserves to know. Besides, it only makes hing stranger.] But there's some other people here from home. At least one other person you know.

Phil's here too.

[seesbetter]

Nat. That's not possible.

[Maybe something's messing with her head. Maybe this is the kgb stuff all over again. Maybe someone's been screwing around with the surviving Maximoff twin.]

Phil's dead.

I know that, Clint. He was, but now he's not. Fury didn't tell us everything.

[She can't blame him for not believing her. She'd be skeptical too, if she hadn't seen it face to face.]

Believe me, he's here.

[seesbetter]

Fury never tells us everything. But Phil does. He would've told us. He would've found a way.

[So maybe Clint's not as great with detachment as he'd like to be. Keeping a clear head is more Natasha's specialty.]

[outstandingbalance]

Phil's an agent, Clint. An agent with SHIELD. He knows how to keep quiet, and he knows about security clearance. You know he does.

[seesbetter]

I housesat for him when he went on vacation.

[There's a bro code.]

And I'm sure he appreciated it.

[Clearly the bro code is lost on Black Widows.]

But he didn't find a reason to tell us. Above our security clearance.

[Oh, that had stung.]

That's bullshit, Nat. SHIELD is one thing. We all owe stuff to SHIELD. But we ain't lifers, either. We know when it's time to throw that stuff out and be people about it.

You're not a lifer. [She agrees with that much. Her... maybe not with SHIELD, but it seemed naive for her to think she could ever get out of the game. Not like Clint could.] Phil... I wouldn't have thought so, but things change.

[seesbetter]

You don't have to be one either. [He reaches out, fingers lightly ghosting against her upper arm.]

You don't have to do any damn thing you don't want to do. You make your own decisions now.

[outstandingbalance]

[She isn't insubstantial, but she's cold and somehow flimsy to the touch. Her expression clouds a little. She'd like to believe that, but she's pragmatic. And she feels like Ryslig has been a stark reminder that there's only so free she can be. She thought she got to decide whether or not to be a killer—but that hadn't lasted, had it?]

I'd like to believe that.

[And maybe she'd get back to that place eventually. But it wouldn't be here.]
