TEST DRIVE: NOVMEMEBER (get it because it's a meme)

- You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
- We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
- Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.
- The reserve date is 11/27.
- Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
- Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.
Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[It's a quiet agreement, but it's firm. Vocal advocates for violence tend to do more harm than good on both sides. She wonders how long these mobs have been hunting monsters, and how many monsters have fallen to them. Then she wonders how many humans - not the most vocal or violent, but the followers who had allowed themselves to be whipped along into the herd - have fallen at the monsters' hands.
Or claws. Or teeth. Or whatever they used to kill them.
It's not a pretty picture.]
Take out the leaders, and the rest of them may very well be scrambling to replace them for long enough to provide a significant reprieve. [Or long enough to swoop in and murder the rest of them but that's not really her thing. The assassination of a few key figures, though - that could save lives on both sides.
It's all a matter of numbers.
...maybe she won't have to combat her thirst for too long. If she constrains herself to the people who are actively putting monsters and humans alike in danger, that's not such a terrible thing, is it?]
no subject
Kaoru just shrugs in turn, since "swoop in and murder the rest of them" is his ideal plan in pretty much every situation.]
Take out the leaders and we'll have enough time to do whatever is best, I suppose.
[If things are chaotic enough, there may be enough who push for a clean slate to make wiping the entire group out possible. Kaoru certainly wouldn't complain, either way; people who take up arms against the things they fear aren't good to have around anyway. (He doesn't really consider that it's kind of a based fear in this case, unlike the way it had been with demons in their own world. The monsters here actually do kill humans, and quite frequently at that.)]
—Later, that is. I'd say we're a bit too outnumbered to do much of worth as things are now.
no subject
...which might as well be the same thing here, honestly.]
Yes, that's true. [And "whatever is best" might very well end up being a slaughter, but Sen isn't sure she's really in a position to make that call. Then again, if "taking out the leaders" involves drinking their blood, she's not altogether certain that she'll have enough presence of mind to back off during a feeding frenzy.
Maaaybe she should wait to go after them until later. Kaoru seems to be thinking along the same lines, and she nods in agreement.]
It would be foolish to attempt to finish this fight now.
[Finish, not start, because honestly the humans started it when they began trying to kill her. There's a note of wistfulness in her voice that she's a little surprised by, when she hears it, but she squares her shoulders a little and tries to ignore it.]
They're bound to track us to this place eventually. I don't suppose I could impose on you to help me hide until the sun comes up?
no subject
As for the request, he glances over, head canting to the side just briefly.]
Hm? Well, I suppose it would be unkind of me to leave you fending for yourself when you could use the aid.
[His smile is completely saccharine and entirely unpleasant, as is his tone, but there's no indication that his words are facetious at least.]
My apartment is in an area of the city that's quite safe for people like us.
no subject
So she presses her lips together into a thin line and nods once, her brow furrowed.]
I appreciate your kindness.
[She'll owe him one, in the future. For all she knows that might be why he's helping her now - she's a resourceful person, and always has been; once she manages to establish herself here, she'll be in a position to repay him in kind. She wonders briefly how much of a debt she'll manage to incur before she can start to pay it back, then banishes the thought from her mind.]
You'll have to forgive me my rudeness, however - circumstances being what they are, I won't be able to bring you a gift this visit.
[If she'd known she was going to get hunted down by humans and wind up having to seek shelter in Kaoru's apartment, she'd have bought him some cosmetics as a gift or something. Maybe she can make it up to him by bringing him a corpse to eat later.]
no subject
But he's well aware of the fact that she's caught between a metaphoric rock and hard place here, and who would he be if he didn't take advantage of that??]
Of course. [Though at the very least, the insufferably over-sweet smile will leave after that. It's tiring to keep up an act 24/7, okay... No one knows he's a shithead and he doesn't have the Nagumo compound to retreat to for temper tantrums, life is Hard™.]
That's fair enough, regardless; the apartment is in no state to receive visitors now, anyway, and I can't be certain that it will be empty either.
[The woes of living with roommates.
Kaoru will peer down through the center of the alley after that though, checking to see if it's relatively clear. Once satisfied, he'll gesture forward and continue moving again, sticking to the outskirts and shadowed areas of buildings. Like most demons, he's good at being spooky and weird and traveling in the cover of darkness.]
no subject
She raises an eyebrow, but is content to keep quiet and let him lead the way - for now, anyway. She peers down the alley as he does and moves forward as he does, barely one step behind. The cover of darkness works just fine for her, having grown up as a demon herself, but she's careful to take note of any landmarks she can use to help her find her way back out of here later.
Sen is, after all, choosing to trust him a little, but she's also not stupid enough to merely follow him blindly.
After they've made some progress in their trek, she casts another curious glance at their surroundings and speaks up, though she keeps her voice low enough that it shouldn't attract the attention of any humans who might be looking for them.] What is it that would make a certain part of the city more safe for people like us than any other?
no subject
Kaoru will continue leading the way and being surprisingly not shitheaded for once, though! Mostly because he doesn't want to get his ass caught either. Gloves are good for keeping at-a-glance suspicions at bay, but any closer looking will definitely blow his cover and the last thing he wants to deal with is a mob. Tragically, scales don't really come with any good offensive or defensive boosts...]
The people who live there, of course.
[Of course!! He continues forward for a few more paces in silence, but then finishes his explanation.]
There are some here who are quite enthused about us. It isn't a perfect alternative, but it's the best that we can do.
no subject
"Enthused"?
[That can mean many things, some of them more unpleasant than others. The Shogunate could have been described as "enthused" about the existence of demons - in that they were willing to accept them so long as they could get something out of them. Sen is well aware that it would be all too easy for them to be turned on in the event that these people couldn't, down the line.
Kaoru is probably aware of it, too.
Then again, there are always people who are enamored with the supernatural. Perhaps this enthusiasm is some sort of misplaced infatuation with the idea of being involved with things that are more than human.
Either way, it sounds like the monsters aren't above using whatever it is to their own advantage for now. She can admire that sort of resourcefulness, at least.]
In what ways does this enthusiasm manifest itself?
[Better to Be Prepared... if she has to charm humans, she'd rather go into it knowing what they like already.]
no subject
In the same way that it manifests itself in curios collectors. [So, the second part... There are some who find monsters useful for their various abilities as well, of course, but Kaoru's found that the majority of the enthusiastic acceptance comes from people who are simply excited to have something "unusual" added to their lives. It's dehumanizing - well, more dehumanizing than literally being dehumanized - but it's better than some alternatives, and very easy to exploit.
Kaoru shrugs soon after, pausing before turning down another street.]
They seem surprisingly genuine about their interest, at the very least.
no subject
[She doesn't mind interest, and she doesn't mind admiration, but there's something about the way that's been worded that rubs her the wrong way. Maybe it's the stress of abstaining from blood when she so sorely needs it; maybe it's the irritation that comes from being hunted down when she hasn't done anything. But her expression contorts with something akin to rage, and she balls her hands into fists, her nails digging into her skin.
...it takes her a moment or two longer than she would like to collect herself.]
My apologies... I shouldn't have raised my voice. You were only answering my question.
[Take it out on the humans who would have slain you is the thought that comes, unbidden; she sorely hopes that it's merely bloodlust talking, and not anything else.]
no subject
There's nothing in that for you to apologize for.
[With the implication that there are, perhaps, other things to apologize for - but Kaoru is quick to move on, leaving only vaguely caustic barbs behind.]
Regardless, hospitality must be taken where it can be found here. You've seen the alternative for yourself.
