Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.

Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

Perhaps you could. [When it comes down to it, though, Yamato and Kou are strangers, and Sen thinks perhaps she would prefer a neutral ground. But if Kou can get as upset about things like that as he claims... hm.] Or perhaps we could figure out some way of making sure there is something in it for him, if we were to meet elsewhere?

[She could always go the Chizuru route of offering up her blood until she turns into a monster, but she's quite sure her own personal rules forbid allowing strangers to bite her.

...ah. People who have finally grasped power generally aren't inclined to give it up after they have it, and she supposes she can understand that. It does surprise her that there enough power-hungry people here who wish to stay aligned with the Fog God rather than aligning with the Fourth God and returning home, though. Then again - Yamato is the only person she's spoken to of gods thus far. Surely there are other perspectives...]

It sounds as though your Fourth God truly has admirable goals. [It's said with a polite smile. She knows better than to tick off a religious zealot...] I'd certainly be interested in speaking with you more on this matter at a later date.

[And then, her polite smile becomes a little bit more warm.]

Oh, please don't worry about me. I'm quite capable of defending myself, if need be.

[Or she was beFORE SHE STOPPED BEING A DEMON AND BECAME A HUMAN, but lifelong confidence isn't something that's easily shaken.]

I think if he wants to eat for the night he better behave. [ Yamato isn't going to have him acting like a five year old, so the way he speaks almost makes him sound like a concerned parent. He's sure if that doesn't work, Horikawa would be able to find someway to make the vampsnake speak, he can't hide the truth for so long? Honestly, to help someone like Sen would be ideal, she's nice? ]

Oh, of course, we can speak of him later. [ Yamato use to not be so religious, but he standing on a God that's able to take him home has good thoughts in his mind. ] Thank you for listening to me, is what I should be telling you as well. [ A hand is raised to scratch the fluff of feathers in his hair as he gives a nod to her and follows with a bow. ] Is that so, are you someone who's able to use a sword or do you believe in using small knives as well?

[ RNG FOR DEMON, RYS. GIVE HER BACK HER POWER. ]

I've met people who use that as a means of defense, may I learn what you can do? [ He is interested. ]

[Oh dear. He really does sound almost like a parent... hopefully Kou will behave, because she doesn't want to be the reason he gets grounded or has to go without dinner or winds up having to sit in the corner for time out or some such thing.] It will work out somehow, I'm sure. [May..be... Yamato knows best how to deal with his roommate, she supposes.]

Oh, you're quite welcome! I'd be glad to lend an ear should you want to discuss him more. [Because, well, the more she hears about these gods, the easier it will be to form her own opinions of them... she'll have to find someone to preach at her about the Fog God, too.]

...ah, well. [[She hasn't really been trained in swordplay, per se. Even her less-than-stellar moment where she winds up stabbing her loyal bodyguard hasn't happened just yet for her, but...] I know enough to defend myself should I wind up with a sword in my hands. And I have other -

Or rather, I had other skills before arriving here, but they seem to have... vanished, since I woke up in that hospital. Still! [She smiles.] Common sense serves me quite well; if I can't talk my way out of a bad situation, I generally know enough to know when to start running.

[ Yamato has a thousand ways of how to deal with Kou if he ever gets in trouble, the male shaking his head as he sighs just a little bit. ] You're right, there's nothing to worry about. Just remember to tell me if he does anything to you that you don't like. [ Or Yamato is going to pull out the satin. ]

That sounds like you aren't someone who deals with a sword all the time, if you ever need training for that.. I can teach you. [ Or maybe Yamato would be the wrong one for how excited he gets in battle, he does have a fascination of the battlefield. He places a hand on the weapon at his side which is a sword but it's not the vessel that he's always started out with. It's borrowed and one day, he'll have to give it back. ] Ah, yes, when I ... arrived here a second time, I was in this position as well. No powers or items.. it's hard to defend oneself if they don't have a means of protection.

[ A tilt of his head as he thinks about her last option. ] I don't mind fighting for you, running isn't always the best choice. That tempts some monsters but I'll make sure to protect you from them.

[Sen smiles.] Don't worry, I will. [Though she'll probably wind up picking up a small paper fan and thwapping him if he acts out of hand before she runs tattling to Yamato. It always worked for keeping unruly demons in line. Thwap, thwap.]

—Ah? [Her eyes widen in brief surprise. Neither offer - not the lessons nor the protection - is something she'd expected out of this discussion, and it actually does catch her by surprise that he would make them in the first place.] That's very kind of you...

[Generally speaking, she does prefer to believe in the best in people. But, being in the position she's been in her entire life, she knows that humans and demons alike aren't necessarily good at heart. It's why, back in Japan, she had been so insistent on looking after Chizuru. People like that girl are very, very rare.

And people like Yamato are rare too.]

...I wouldn't want to burden you with such a thing... but it would be foolish of me to turn you down. [She clasps her hands in front of herself and bows to him in gratitude.] I'll do my best to learn from you, and I'll be depending on your protection until such a time when I'll be able to truly look out for myself.

[ Who knew something like that worked, please pass that advice onto him one day. He would love to thwap certain ones one head that deserve it. Though, it's not every day you see people as innocent as her to be confused by the act of kindness so up front. Yamato isn't someone who is always on his worst behavior and he does try to help others when he can so knowing that she'll be able to accept his assistance and that she is also willing to learn from him makes him feel like he's back in the days of being a teacher — just like Souji was himself. ]

Anything that you need, it'll be fine to ask me. I don't know much of this modern time I've been sent to but I'm always sure we can learn together. But, I'll try to have an answer for every one of your questions. [ Of course, he can do as much as he needs. He does keep in mind that with her counting on him in protection wise, he's happy to assist. This is something that will make his group happy, he's sure. ] You can count on someone from the Shinsengumi to watch over you. [ Placing his hand on her shoulders. ] I hope touching you is fine but.. [ Helping her lean back up like before. ] There is no need to bow to me. I'm happy to help.

[She really ought to have known.

If her expression had seemed merely surprised before, it's full-on shocked now; her eyes are wide and her mouth is even hanging open a little inelegantly as he helps her straighten herself back up. Slowly, she shrugs his hands off her shoulder and takes a small step back.]

I didn't realize you were also from Kyoto, sir. [BUT SHE REALLY SHOULD HAVE. Open your eyes, Sen... Granted, she's mostly come face-to-face with captains. What is he, a footsoldier? A page? With... really pretty feathers.

(If only she knew.)

After a moment, though, she manages a small smile.]

The Shinsengumi's reputation precedes it. If you're with them, then I'm sure I'm in good hands.

[OR RATHER... she's in the hands of people her closest friend trusted, even if she herself had doubted them quite a bit. It's not really the same thing, but she'll make an effort - she'll just, uh, be on the lookout for the bloodthirsty rampages she was worried about before.]

[ The shock upon her features makes him wonder what's wrong but the way she recites the words as if she knows them does make him smile. So she knows who they are and what they stand for, her step back does make Yamato wonder will she be alright with this information. But he doesn't have to worry about her, it seems to be more positive than negative. ] Ah, so you know them? I guessed from your clothes but you seem nothing but familiar with the term so you must know that even a few others are here as well. I'm not the only one.

[ He's not! She has more people to meet and greet, which Yamato doesn't realize Sen thinks his feathers are pretty. That would make him happy too. ]

I'm glad, we're here to protect.. [ They are, even if he's a little God oriented but what does that matter! ] May I learn your name, maybe I even know you too?

I know of them. [Who in Kyoto wouldn't know of them? It's true that her first reaction to them isn't quite as negative as it could be - it's their abilities she doubts when it comes to Chizuru, not their intentions, and if they can be kind to a girl who's just looking for her father then she knows they're not all bad, deep down - so it's not such a stretch to conclude that she's familiar with them. After all, their reputation in Kyoto had been rather negative except for with those who knew them well.

Still, this does make things a little more complicated; Yamato hadn't seemed to know what she meant when she referenced the ochimizu, which means he's in the dark about that secret of the Shinsengumi's. She'll have to be sure that she doesn't let anything slip.

(It doesn't occur to her that the two of them might be thinking of two different versions of the Shinsengumi. Why would it?)]

I am Sen of Yase. [She inclines her head slightly.] That name might not be familiar to you... but that's alright. It seems we'll have plenty of time to get to know each other in the days to come, doesn't it?

[Since they're not likely to get sent home right away...]

Since we'll be becoming better acquainted, may I ask your name?

[ He's happy to know that she's familiar with them considering they need as many people on their side, they are good people. None of them are exactly bad and even though some holds their own insecurities, he still believes they should be held high. Yamato holds onto that group and even the person inside of it, though he idolizes him and everything. The uchigatana holds his own thoughts on the group as a whole and it means a lot to him. ] Sen of Yase? [ Trying to figure out if he's heard that name before, it doesn't come to him at all but maybe he's not thinking hard enough? Give or take a couple of minutes as he thinks on her words. ]

That sounds wonderful, I hope we can get to know each a lot. If you want, you can even stay at my place. It's only a little crowded but I'm sure I can make you a nest or something to rest in, it'll be really comfortable. I promise. [ Sen.. of Yase. He wonders what does that mean for him, does it hold some meaning that he needs to figure out? Is it personal or just a name he's yet to stumble upon until now? ]

Hm? Yes, I am Yamatonokami Yasusada. I'm one of Okita Souji's favorite swords. I'd say I'm difficult to handle but I'm quite capable. I also serve under this world's Saniwa.

Well, anything else she might have said gets derailed right there. They'll have to figure out living - er, nesting - arrangements later, because it's not every day someone just smiles and says "I'm a sword, and the sword of an infamous Shinsengumi captain, no less."]

Nah. Luckily for Yamato, he's talking to a girl who was once a demon. She's been aware since birth that there was more to the world than just humans and natural wildlife, and she knows very well that legends often have more truth in them than the skeptical believe. So she comes to the conclusion that anyone who was raised to believe in the truth of legends would - ]
