Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
SCENARIO FOUR (New):The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.
Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.
one! /have someone who has met your brother, Yukio
The magician wonders if anyone he knows will be showing up with this newest batch. They hadn't last August. Passing the days hoping that he doesn't see a familiar face has got to be a worse anxiety than performing on stage. People staring, he can deal with. He's not sure how he'd handle one of his friends seeing him the way he is now.
Passing by the bakery, he pauses to check out their selection of fresh bread. It smells good, but it doesn't make him feel hungry. No - that's caused by the thrum of life about him, the energy of the crowd. Their excitement.
(Their fear?)
He shakes his head, declines the attempt to solicit his business, and is about to continue on when someone next to him turns and thrusts one of the newcomer monster pamphlets at him. 'Werebears', it says. It looks as untrustworthy as he remembers.
"Uh, thanks, but I'm kinda..." Kaito gestures at himself with his free hand. Spines on elbows and the back of his shoulders, pointed ears, flashes of sharp dentures when he speaks - not a werebear evidently, but still a monster.
You have my sympathy!!!
Yukio's not certain it's not him somehow suddenly making people far more nervous suddenly up until the person he'd pushed the pamphlet at speaks up, and he actually focuses on the person.
It takes considerable self control to not react as he'd been trained to do, as this is very obviously NOT a human. But unarmed and unsure of what type of demon he's dealing with to begin with, doing nothing is more important.
"..Does all of that mean you won't become something else?" At the least, the goblin already seemed well aware not only could he be seen, he was a frightening thing to look at for most people. So acknowledging it won't draw more attention..
they ended up friends so idk what that implies about mine haha
"You only turn into one thing while you're here." Kaito taps the pamphlet lightly with a claw. "That's one of them. Me, I'm a goblin. There're sixteen different types altogether."
Well, he could mention how apparently some people have managed to transform into different creatures after their initial one, but that would confuse the issue. Newcomers don't need that much information on their first days. He remembers that it was bad enough coming to terms with changing into a monster.
it depends on how they get along. :|a
The claw is followed by his gaze. Sixteen kinds of demons didn't seem like much. It was possible he was being deceived.
But also possible that he was being told the complete truth. For a few moments he remains quiet, pushing his glasses up his nose in a brief gleam of reflected light. He could walk away, that would be the sane thing to do when confronted even by a friendly demon. On the other hand..
"These pamphlets seem to imply quite a few more kinds than sixteen. Are you willing to elaborate at all?"
Maybe he could find a way to convince Kaito to elaborate in detail. There was no guarantee it would be the truth but it would be a start..
they ran themselves ragged planning a festival together 8D?
Kaito makes a sound of derision and waves a dismissive hand. "You mean the fur-bearing trout and bunny-yips? S'far as we know, they don't exist. I've never seen one either and I've been keeping an eye out."
He notes that the baker's assistant, behind Yukio, looks like they want to say something in response to that. Kaito calls over to them, "They really don't, okay? Mers don't grow fur and I haven't seen anyone turn into a rabbit!"
...That's what he assumes bunnyipyips are. He has no idea actually.
