TEST DRIVE : MAY EDITION

TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
  • The reserve date has been announced (it was changed to the 30th to allow a maximum number of people compared to a Friday).
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.

SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

I'm afraid I'm rather new here myself. I am not native to this place, so my specific knowledge is currently lacking. However, I do have quite a vast wisdom beyond this world, so as much as I dislike making guesswork... I guarantee you my guesses would be the most accurate ones you could hear.

[Scratch's expression, probably much to Layton's relief, turned more neutral as he placed both hands behind his back and stood before him.]

I should point out those articles seem to have been written by complete fools. While they may be witness to the strange happenings of this place, they clearly have a very limited understanding of what is actually transpiring.

[ At first, the man's confidence is reassuring to the Professor.

As he continues, however, the inflexibility and smugness that Hershel perceives are not.

That isn't to say that he truly believes all that he's read, of course. However, when he considers what trails of evidence have led him to, the dismissive reaction he hears feels slightly premature.
]

Am I correct, then, in assuming that you have an accurate and working understanding of what is written here? [ He shuffles the pamphlets around to show the most telling: Alternatives to Human Flesh, The Full Moon And You, and So You're Growing New Limbs. If this assumption was correct, then the man may prove a valuable source of information to Hershel. ] Foolish or not, if the ideas put forward by these articles contain even a sliver of truth, then I believe that they are worthy of investigation.

You would do well to learn to read between the lines, my good sir.

[Meet Doc Scratch, confident and condescending prick.]

There has been talk of an ailment, a disease that turns outsiders like ourselves into terrible beasts, ones that feed upon human beings. These pamphlets are not here to provide us with helpful information. Think of it logically... we are their enemies.

[Scratch flourished one hand at the air around him, at the crowds of villagers all around them.]

While I cannot say much of anything with utmost certainty anymore, knowing what I know and being who I am, there is no conceivable way they could be responsible for our situation. They are not the reason for us being here, nor are they the cause of the disease. They seem to barely grasp what it is. Their concern lies not in understanding, or to help understand, but in assuring their own safety.

You have reason to believe, then, that the accounted transformations are genuine?

[ Because Hershel doesn't. Though he's not dismissing the possibility quite yet, he's fairly certain that the affliction described is quite medically impossible. And the Professor has explained away far too many impossible phenomena through logic and investigation to be overly swayed to either camp of belief just yet.

If this man has seen anything, though, Hershel would be glad to know of it. Perhaps he's met a victim of this particular ailment, or maybe he's seen something.

What the man says next, however, assures that hope is short-lived.
]

With all due respect, I'm not sure that there is any real benefit in speaking certainly when it cannot be done. Would it not be wiser to gather all that we can and look objectively to where it leads?

[ He gathers the leaflets up again, holding them close to his chest. ] The people here may not be experts in these goings-on, but after reading what I have, I cannot truly believe anyone is. Understanding or not, what cannot be denied is that they are witness to whatever happens here, and if we are to make it our business as a collective to understand, then I see few clues more valuable then their first-hand accounts.

[ Reliable or not, they have clearly seen enough to have some useful pieces of information. Puzzling it out would prove a challenge, surely, but it was one Hershel felt they would have to face. ]

Given that my current form is not my original form, I believe I've already experienced a precedence of it. You may also want to consider that I come from a very different place than you. The things which I have experienced on a day-to-day basis would likely seem extraordinary to you.

[Paradox space is not a place for anything to be 'ordinary'. And given that being pulled outside of paradox space was not something Scratch even considered to be possible, he's a lot more willing to believe at this point that anything is possible.]

It's a rather human thing, to go about gathering pieces of information and putting together a story that supposedly fits them all together. You may gather facts and make emotional demands of them. I'm more interested in finding a trail leading to a reliable source. Someone or something is responsible for these happenings, and understanding who or what it is is key in understanding everything.
