TEST DRIVE : MAY EDITION

TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
  • The reserve date has been announced (it was changed to the 30th to allow a maximum number of people compared to a Friday).
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.

SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[ That voice, that name, spoken with such loathing...they send cold shivers running down his spine. He doesn't need to look, he can't bring himself to look. Instead, he squeezes his eyes shut tight, trying to will this vision of Robb Stark away.

A handsome, dark haired man who smiled at all the wrong things knew him once. Perhaps considered him the closest thing he had to a friend and a brother, and perhaps threw that all away for the love of a father who never showed him any in return. That man should have been there at the Twins, should have died upon the same sword, should have done something.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, he tries to say, but the words don't come. You can't be here, you shouldn't be here, I'm sorry.
]

No.

[ One word, falling from his mouth in a breathless croak. The poor creature shakes his head as the world spins around him. A tree branch can't steady him now. Blindly, he stumbles backwards; away from Robb, away from the ghost, away into the shadows until his back hits the trunk of another tree. I'm sorry, I'm sorry... ]

Not Theon--m'lord, I'm not him...

[ You don't deserve his forgiveness. He has a sword. You should just let him kill you here and now. Even that is a kinder fate than you deserve. ]

Reek, m'lord. My name is Reek. It rhymes with freak...
kingofbadlifechoices: (thats gross take it away gods)

Me neither :c

[Robb watches the broken man stumble away from him, eyes following every move. He is but a shadow of what he used to be. Not even that. Theon had been handsome, cocky, witty and his best friend but this...no...not even a bloody shadow. To put him to the sword would be too kind.]

You do not even dare to look me in the eye. Have you become that much of a craven, Theon?

[Finally Robb takes a couple of steps forward. His muscles feel stiff while anger fills his heart.]

You put my brothers to the sword... [Once again Robb has to remind himself that the sweet gift of death is not something Theon Greyjoy deserves.] ...Look at me!

freakin RUDE

I'm not--

[ Again, the words catch in his throat. He's dead, he wants to scream. He died when Winterfell burned, I'm not him, I can't be him.

Suddenly, the previously stuffy air feels too cold around him. He shivers and hunches, curling into himself as he continues to avoid Robb's eyes. Reek shouldn't recognize that face. He can't recognize that face. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Gods, I'm sorry. I never meant--
]

If m'lord has a blade...

[ He nearly laughs in spite of himself. It's more than you deserve, turncloak, and he knows. Do you really expect him to grant you such a mercy? ]
kingofbadlifechoices: (no.)

so very, very rude

No. You know your name as well as you know mine.

[The sword Robb carries with him is old and blunt. Even a sword meant for practise could do more damage. Yet, his long claws curl around the hilt and he pulls it out of its scabbard.

And when he talks his voice trembles a little with anger.]

They were but children. Bran could not walk and Rickon... [He tightens his grip around the hilt while he approaches the man that used to be Theon. His eyes narrow a little when he places the point of the sword against the other's cheek and one long fang digs itself into his lower lip slightly when he slides the blade so that it rests right underneath Theon's chin. Because if Theon refuses to look at him he will make him look.] Did you feel any regret when you killed them?

[It takes a lot of willpower to not just thrust that sword right through Theon's bloody throat.]

Were you proud instead?

[ Of course he won't kill you. Starks and their honor. You haven't earned such a mercy.

The claws are new, but they mean nothing to this shadow of Theon. Even if Robb still looked the boy he did before Theon left for Pyke, it couldn't make this moment any less terrifying. But won't let himself be Theon. He won't allow himself lose another finger or his tongue.

You know your name, a voice shouts in his head. Don't let him fool you. It's Reek, it rhymes with creak.

He fights to turn away again, but more than just a dulled blade stops him. Perhaps it's the anger in Robb's eyes. Had Theon ever seen him so angry? Perhaps when news of Ned Stark's death had reached him...but it was a different man who had stood by Robb Stark's side then. That man wasn't me.
]

I never hurt your brothers.

[ His broken voice cracks in his dry throat as he averts his eyes again. I did what I had to do. Pride had everything to do with it, but I wasn't proud. ]

I never--

[ Fear is a high barrier for Theon, and not one that can be easily overcome. Still, somewhere in the back of his mind, another voice nags at him. Tell him. Tell him everything. ]

Your brothers--

[ Tell him. ]

They're alive.

[Robb’s head is full of memories now. Of Winterfell, of his lady mother scorning Bran for climbing the towers again, of Rickon crying and, most of all, of him japing with Theon while practicing archery. Or Theon making Robb aware of the cleavage of some highborn lady. And now he looks upon the murderer of his brothers. The man who put Winterfell to the torch.

Robb had made a bloody mess of it. All of it. And then Theon starts to lie...and he finds himself at a loss of words. Somewhere he had hoped to hear a truth, something that resembled the message they had given him that day.

At the second ‘never’ that slips from Theon’s lips the point of Robb’s sword digs a little deeper into the skin of the other’s throat.]

That is what I thought as well... [He takes a deep, shuddering breath.] ...that you would never do such a thing.

[At those last words Robb’s eyes widen and he shifts a little. It could either be the ultimate bloody lie or the sweetest or truths. He manages to slip into the skin of the king he once wanted to be.]

Speak. And look at me when you do.

[It isn’t a request, it is a simple command.]
