Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
The reserve date has been announced (it was changed to the 30th to allow a maximum number of people compared to a Friday).
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[she says that even as the grip from Lucina's clawed fingers, however brief, breaks skin and draws even more blood. the pain barely registers, and it was an accident. right?]
I'd like that. We may be the only people from Ylisse here. We should stay together.
[with difficulty, Severa rises to her feet. her thigh muscles scream with pain now that she actually has to put them into motion, but it's nothing she can't get used to. she'll have to force herself to get used to it, at any rate, because her extra legs aren't going away any time soon. if Lucina isn't desperate to chop off the extra parts of herself, Severa will show that same level of discipline.]
[she does notice their, uh, increased profiles, as it were.]
[She doesn't plan on chopping them off yet, anyway.
Maybe once they're in a more enclosed location she'll give it thought. Lucina follows Severa to her feet in full, and has to bite back a wince. Her muscles feel overstretched and weak, that's for certain. Her wings slump against her back, looking nowhere near as refined as if she had actually been a dragon or wyvern. In time, if they haven't figured out a fix for all of this mess, Lucina will find a more comfortable way to have them. Right now that's not priority.]
We could go inside sideways. I think that may work.
[Severa takes a careful look at Lucina's back, then at her own legs, as though she's gauging whether or not it would actually work. she seems satisfied.]
All right. We can do that.
[before giving the go-ahead to Lucina to lead the way, her spider legs twitch in tandem with her thigh muscles, and the experience—while harmless—is entirely unnerving and disgusting. and it makes her already thinly-stretched resolve break.]
Please tell me you still have Falchion at your home. I am getting rid of these legs one way or another.
[There it is, the question that actually makes her falter after a few steps. It's not something she wants to admit. The last memento of her dead father, the treasure of her country.
Lost to the waves.]
Falchion is not with me, Severa. [Her voice is quiet, guilty. Ashamed.
She'll find some way to get it back, she swears, but for now... She's weaponless.]
[well. that won't do, will it? Severa stops in her tracks. her voice almost immediately gets an edge to it, not half as sharp as Lucina's lost heritage but just as grave.]
Perhaps if we're cursed to become man-eaters anyway, we can find the one who stole it from you and live up to our new names. Your legacy dying here would be unacceptable. I refuse to allow it.
It was not stolen from me. [As if Lucina would have allowed anyone to do such a thing. Falchion would not be held by common folk to any effect, and a dull blade is useless, is it not? Only she has the ability to make Falchion sharp and deadly in her hands.]
It.. It is likely at the bottom of the ocean, Severa. I did not have it with me when I awoke. It's scabbard was empty, and when I asked, they had told me that I didn't have a sword when I was brought in.
[that puts a bit of a damper on her plans. but not enough to stop them entirely.]
Maybe whatever we're turning into can breathe underwater, then. My point stands. We must find some way to recover it. It's more important than whatever is happening here. [she sounds surprisingly good-spirited, given the situation, but she can't deal with Falchion being out of place, and its place is in Lucina's hands.]
Remember how fearsome you were on the battlefield beforehand. No one would be foolish enough to stand against you now, were you properly armed. I say we make this our new top priority.
[For some reason, Lucina doubts that whatever they're turning into can breathe underwater. Last she checked, dragons and... spiders did not fare so well in the ocean.
Perhaps they can find someone to help them, however. The villagers here are more than eager to please.
But Severa is right. They will get Falchion back. They'll fix whatever form of a curse this is and help the people here.]
You're right. We need a plan first, however, and I think we should work on removing ourselves from the streets first.
[Her steps are steadier now, more confident than she had been.]
[fine. that was the original plan anyway, and Lucina was right, the two of them are sitting ducks. sitting dragons and spiders. Severa may be confident that Lucina won't eat her, but she can make no promises for the other people in this town. and she has seen quite her share of characters.]
Lead the way, commander.
[which is unnecessary because she's already following Lucina, but she's taking what agency she can get. her legs itch, and she's trying not to think about when the second half of the set will erupt. at least this dallying has given her blood some time to clot so she won't be leaving a trail for people to follow.]
[She does. The place Lucina's secured isn't too fancy or really all that impressive. She'd eventually caved when she found out she needed shelter like anyone else, and that's when she'd let some of the townsfolk talk her into letting her stay.
They haven't been home in over four days. While Lucina is worried about them, right now she's thankful (in a horrifyingly relieved way) way that they're not here to see this. They'd been good people, if a bit nervous, and now they're gone. More than likely fallen prey to other monsters like she was becoming.
Lucina holds the door for Severa. She'd been testing her wings every now and again, and she thinks that maybe she has it under control, tucking them against her back in the most comfortable way she can manage.]
[Severa's new appendages offer her no such control. she's noticed over the course of the walk that they, too, are good at detecting vibrations with tiny hairs that she suddenly knows are there. but the legs don't fold, they don't change, they just stick out like four incredibly sore thumbs.]
[she tries walking through sideways and is relieved to discover it works, though she's none too pleased that that will have to become her default way of passing through doorways and other narrow spaces now.]
Thank you.
[her tongue runs along the length of her fangs again, now that she's thinking about it. it would seem the gorier transformations are happening to her lower body. is she to become a full spider, or some sort of man-spider hybrid? she'd prefer the latter. at least she would retain some semblance of who she used to be.]
You're adapting well, unsurprisingly. Did Robin share any tips with you for just such an occasion?
[it's a really bad joke, and one she almost immediately regrets making. but tasteless humor is better than focusing on what they're turning into. it may even serve as a reminder of their humanity.]
[Lucina grits her teeth and for the umpteenth time she bites her tongue on her new fangs. Severa's joke is tasteless, and more than that, it stings. In more ways than it should. Robin and Grima, one and the same. And now Severa has the gall to joke she is Robin's child in such a time.]
I am not Robin's ilk, Severa. Fell blood does not run through my veins.
[Perhaps it is a good thing that Morgan isn't here, at least.]
