Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
The reserve date has been announced (it was changed to the 30th to allow a maximum number of people compared to a Friday).
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[It's true that the Doll has never heard of Bunnyipips before, but that doesn't mean they don't exist somewhere in the world. And if they don't exist yet, they certainly could. The good people of Yharnam were creating and changing into new types of abominations every day, it seems.]
Some of these beasts do, though, certainly. [She opens up one of the rare, actually helpful pamphlets about werewolves.] There are many of these where I am from, although they are not called by such names. What makes you think that these... Bunnyipips are not more common here?
[Her tone isn't argumentative - or at least, that's not how she intends to come off. She's just genuinely curious about what Joan's thought process is.]
[This young woman is a little... off. She might just be playing devil's advocate, but Joan has the feeling that she's entirely sincere.]
Are you seriously suggesting we're in a different world? Because the world as I know it doesn't have the kind of biology that allows for mythological creatures.
[That stops her in her tracks. No. The Doll may not have seen many of these beasts up close and personal, but she has no doubt that they are real. She's seen the the effects they've had on the Hunters who pass through the Dream.]
No, I am sorry, I think you misunderstand. I am speaking of the Scourge Beasts that plague Yharnam. Not in myths or legends.
[The Doll is well aware of the concept of multiple worlds. In fact, she knows it to be true. But as far as she understands, all worlds have werewolves, or at the very least some sort of similar monsters.]
[The word 'wendigo' doesn't ring a bell with the Doll at all, but when she sees the picture of one on the pamphlet, something clicks.]
Ah, but they do in Yharnam. I have heard tales of them, from the Hunters that pass through - they call them Cleric Beasts.
[She smiles. Clearly this woman is just some sort of outsider, from a city or country that is yet untouched by the plague. A place that does not yet know the importance of Hunters.]
It is said when a holy man or woman is taken by the plague, that is what they become. You do know of the plague, yes?
Ah, I apologize. Yharnam is a city. The plague is thick there, although my dear Hunters try their best to quell the beasts that come from it.
[Many of them think Yharnam is doomed, although the Doll doesn't say as much. Far be it from her to contradict anyone, but she has boundless faith in the hunters and their ability to stop this outbreak.]
You haven't? What a wondrous place you must be from, then, that your Hunters have succeeded. What is your home called?
[It literally doesn't even occur to her that Joan might be talking about some kind of illness that doesn't require a whole class of people to murder the sick.]
Perhaps not. But what would your people do to a victim of the plague, if not hunt them?
[There's nothing else to be done, as far as the Doll knows. Certainly, she's heard tales of some Hunters who have abandoned the way of the hunt, and have taken to protecting these beasts from those who would do them harm. That always seemed counter-intuitive to her, though.]
['Euthanise' implies a great deal more mercy than many Hunters have. ]
Then we are indeed speaking of two different kinds of plague.
[Again, she lifts up the werewolf pamphlet and points to the beast on the front of it.]
There are doctors and the healing church for many illnesses. The plague that creates these creatures requires a Hunter.
[Her tone is calm, despite Joan's justifiable anger. She isn't smug or condescending, just genuinely trying to explain her point. Clearly if this stranger has a problem with Hunters, there must be some sort of misunderstanding., right? In her mind, their job is so righteous, such anger doesn't make sense as a response.]
Yes. It is an important job. Many good men and women give their lives for it.
[It's more complicated than that, really, but that's the gist of it. There's no need to go into the specifics about what causes the plague, not when this stranger doesn't need to know it.]
And now, this place seems to have the same sickness.
[With that, she passes the werewolf pamphlet to Joan. It's got some pretty interesting bits about horrific transformations in there, as well as a few possibly less-than-true parts.]
no subject
[And if they do, Joan isn't exactly eager to encounter them.]

[Either this woman is delusional or Joan has landed somewhere a lot stranger than she first assumed. She shakes her head a little.]
I definitely don't have anything like these [Here she holds up a pamphlet on fang maintenance for wendigos.] where I'm from.

[The mention of a plague brings Joan up short. She has the feeling this woman isn't talking about modern diseases.]
We haven't had a real plague in centuries. They're pretty easily contained now.
