Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
The reserve date has been announced (it was changed to the 30th to allow a maximum number of people compared to a Friday).
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[Jade nods, looking almost hopeful. If Wirt knows about the hospital, maybe he knows more about where they are and more importantly, why they're there. Sure, she's still freaking out that she's talking to a teenager who might possibly be part monster, but at least he seems to be a somewhat helpful part-monster.]
Yeah, I was there. Hospitals kinda freak me out. Especially hospitals like that.
Oh. [Wow, he really didn't think this through. He looks down at the ground, letting the uncomfortable silence hang for several long seconds while he searches for something else to say.] Yeah, that-- I don't think there's a way to make this... not... freak somebody out.
[It's like his discomfort is feeding into her discomfort, and she's starting to think he won't have any useful information to share. But Jade's decided it's somewhat reassuring to hear that freaking out is the standard reaction to this place, as depressing as that is.]
So you're... You've been here awhile? I mean, you didn't just show up here today?
[Jade glances at his antlers again, but the staring is less obvious this time and she quickly recovers. She's still hoping to get some actual answers from him.]
[Even if it's not as obvious, he still notices. Everyone stares, or at least everyone who hasn't started changes of their own. And even then it's not a sure bet. It's hard not to be aware of it. Wirt runs one hand self-consciously through his hair, letting it drop back to his side when he hits the base of an antler.]
I... [He trails off, realizing he actually needs to think about the answer. Some counting, some quick mental math, and... that can't be right. Wirt frowns, going over the dates in his head again. Sure, he hasn't exactly been counting the days, but it feels like it should only be half of that. When he answers, it sounds unsure, like he can't believe it himself.] A couple months. W-we were the last ones. Um. You know, before... [There's an awkward hand gesture, and he lets the implication hang. Before you.]
[Jade catches that implication, but she refuses to believe that she's... His replacement? That latest batch of people to be recruited to this place? She's not sure what to call them, but she's certain she doesn't want to be included. She can't stay here. There's an obvious edge to her voice when she responds, a mix of panic and anger.]
Months?! I can't be here for months. Who knows what'll happen!
[The apology is a mumbled one, and he bites his lip, looks away. Wirt can't tell her anything he knows she wants to hear -- anything he wanted to hear at the time -- so he says nothing instead. He wasn't prepared for how hard this conversation is from the other side.]
Dude, don't apologize. Just... Tell me something. Anything about this place.
[She knows he's going to tell her more things she doesn't want to hear, but it's not like bad news is anything new to her. It's practically the story of her life. Besides, she's desperate for any information at this point.]
[He takes one step back as she snaps at him, startled, his hands curling into nervous fists by his sides. The urge to tell her that he can't help her is insane. That she should go find someone else, someone who's actually good at this. Wirt frowns, trying to figure out where to start, before he eventually decides on the basics. The stuff he can't screw up.]
What they were telling you is true. I mean... kind of true. The pamphlets are really terrible.
[She hadn't read the pamphlets. She'd been trying to avoid the pamphlets entirely, because one glace at some of those titles had Jade working herself into a panic and she knew that wouldn't help. But if they were important, panicking was totally justified.]
But they're right? I mean, they're... [She trails off, hoping Wirt will fill in the rest of the details.]
I-- yes? [The look he gives her is completely confused. He doesn't think what he said was that ambiguous. Besides, as much as he hates to admit it, he's more or less proof. Maybe he was wrong about not being able to screw this up afterall.] That's... kind of what true means.
[Jade freezes in place, putting the pieces of information she's gathered so far together in her mind. She wishes he was lying. She hopes he's lying. But she's ninety-nine percent sure he's not lying, and that's horrifying. She starts to pace, talking mostly to herself.]
No. No, no, I can't... You've gotta be fucking kidding me. I can't... [She stops pacing just long enough to gesture at his, well, at his everything] become whatever the fuck you are. I've gotta get out of here!
