Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
The reserve date has been announced (it was changed to the 30th to allow a maximum number of people compared to a Friday).
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
The large, hulking form that Serah has stumbled upon freezes in its tracks. Its prey --is it the hunter, or the nearby deer they had been tracking? it's hard to say-- goes forgotten. The deer spooks, and bolts, and the hunter follows. That doesn't matter, though, because he knows that voice. It's impossible, though, isn't it? It can't be--
...he stands. Turns to look at her. Of course she has a bow. Of course she's challenging a deadly monster, alone, with no backup. For a moment he's shocked into silence, staring down at her from his full height.]
Serah...
[Shock, surprise, maybe a little bit of fear. She might not recognize his voice, but those things will come through clearly.]
[Serah's resolve shifts slightly, her bow lowering before coming back to attention, she frowns before shaking her head and putting her game face on. No. It didn't matter. They were about to eat a human. And she didn't even know who it was. Maybe it was scared, but in her adrenaline, she keeps the bow steady even as his "prey" gets away.]
[For a minute, he's too stunned to answer. Part of him is still convinced it can't possibly be her. With everything Lightning was willing to put herself through just to bring her back...it can't possibly be this easy.
Then he realizes nothing about this is easy at all.]
[Again, the bow shifts, and there's something surprised in her eyes, something...afraid. If that was Noel....how could he hurt the thing he went on the journey to save?
What had happened here?
Her voice is uncertain, attempting to stay strong in the face of something so confusing.]
[There's visible fear in her eyes, and it causes him to hesitate again for a second. He can't blame her, either for that or for demanding proof of who he is. He doesn't exactly look like himself, and she's smart. Too smart to be trusting in a place like this.]
We met in New Bodhum. Your sister wanted me to bring Mog to you, so you could go find her. Remember that? Traveling through time?
[Damn, but that feels like a long time ago. He pauses there, searching her face for recognition. He won't yet risk saying more than that -- he remembers how Hope's memories differed from his own. Sazh's too.]
It's me. [A pause. He lifts one large, clawed hand, balling it into a fist.] I know it's hard to tell like this.
[A thousand questions are running through his mind. How long has she been here? What does she remember? Does she know-- ...everything? For a second, he doesn't really know where to begin. But the sound of something far off, slinking through the woods, makes his decision a lot easier.]
Follow me, alright? We should talk, but not out here.
[There are plenty of empty places at the edge of the woods to talk. Places where monsters don't always prowl.]
[Even if she wants to believe, well, she's been fooled before, and going anywhere with him, alone, could spell her doom. Best to stay where at least she could run and hide, or have someone hear her if matters get worse.]
[That's sort of familiar, though, isn't it? How can I trust you? He's not worried. She came to trust him after the first time they met. And sunrise is a pretty good backup, in case all else fails. He glances at her and nods.]
In town would probably be better. Less dangerous than the woods, at least. I know a few places in Vandare.
[And if she agrees, he'll be taking her to one of those: an abandoned house in one of Vandare's more outlying areas. The area itself doesn't seem so bad; quiet, but with an occasional light on in a dark window. It's a house Noel hasn't been to in quite a while, not since the first night he changed. Strangely, this house alone seems to be empty.]
[She nods, following him, keeping her bow in hand. Of course she wants to trust him, put it away. But not yet. At the empty house, her nerves seem to get even more on edge, gripping her bow tighter. This didn't seem good, but....she had to trust him.]
[He waits to answer until he's certain there's no one, or nothing, sneaking around on the second floor. It doesn't take much effort, really -- most anything will make enough noise to be noticed, after all, and anyone else he can probably sniff out. After that, he pauses a second, looking at her, head tilting a bit at her question.]
Back when all of this started? I thought I'd have to live alone. Thankfully, I was wrong -- right now I live with a few people in Bavan. But it's further away, so I thought this would be better.
[OH YEAH, TOTALLY GREAT JUDGMENT, THIS PLACE IS NOT CREEPY AT ALL. Now, however, he gets serious. In the dim light of a gas lamp, he looks even more intimidating, towering close to the ceiling, covered in hair. He tries to downplay some of that monstrousness by sitting on the floor -- less gigantic-looking means less threatening-looking, right? He still looks a little shocked; still feels a little numb, but he looks her over anyway, at least half a dozen questions waiting to be asked.]
Serah...you're not hurt, right? [He knows the answer already, but for some reason, he feels like he has to be sure of that.] How long have you been here...?
SCREAMS AND SLAMS INTO THIS
