JANUARY TEST DRIVE MEME

- You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
- We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
- Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.
- The Reserve date is 01/29.
- Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
- Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...
SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.
Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.
Fiora | Xenoblade Chronicles
[In the midst of all the confusion, anger, and general bad feelings that come with the new arrivals, there's this girl. She hasn't left the hospital, nor has she even stopped to listen or accept any silly pamphlets. No, this girl is busy checking herself out in a mirror.
At first, she's staring in disbelief. Then, she literally pinches herself, to make sure this is isn't a dream. Slowly, a smile creeps across her face as she realizes that what she's seeing in the mirror is for real. She looks down at her hands, tosses her hair, and twirls around trying to get a better look at herself. She even lets out a small giggle. You'd think she'd never seen her own reflection before.
She might even pull you aside for extra confirmation.]
Are you seeing this, too? Can you believe it? I can hardly believe it. It's... it's a miracle, is what it is!
[Why is she so happy? Hasn't anyone told her what the deal with this place is? (No.)]
TWO
[Now, don't get me wrong. Fiora is still more than happy to have her real, not slowly dying, Homs body back. She really is.
That said, right now she sorely misses the built-in radar her Mechon body had.
She's not afraid. She is sure to keep telling herself that. She's faced worse things before. Instead, she tells herself, she is prepared. She's not letting her guard down. Y'know, because the woods are spooky, and full of things that want to eat her.]
Hello? Who's out there? Look, have a laugh all you want, but at least tell me out to get out of here!
FOUR-ISH (Werewolf)
I beg your pardon!? I have just as much right to shop here as anyone else!
[Fiora's tone is equal parts flustered and incredulous, and her hands fly to her hips as she turns to the shopkeeper. The man in charge of the stall she had just been perusing seems more annoyed that she overheard his comment about "her kind" than anything, and simply rolls his eyes and starts to turn away. Wow. Rude.]
Excuse me! Do you think I wanted to come here? That this is some sort of holiday for me? You think I like being like this...
[Now she was getting angry. She felt her wolfish ears, the only part of her that currently gave away that she was, in fact, an outsider, flattened back against her head, and her face grew hot. Of course the shopkeeper thought she was a freak- she was. Maybe she didn't have any right to be here- No! Stop that, Fiora. It's not her fault! She steels herself and stands up to the rude shopkeeper, getting up in his face, temper flaring. She was so irritated that she didn't even realize how loud she was being until the police officer grabs her by the arm.
Ma'am, you're causing a scene. I'm going to have to ask you to leave.
And that was the last straw.]
Don't you dare touch me...!
[She trails off as an all too familiar tingling sensation runs down her spine. Her eyes go wide. Oh no.]
Let me go. Please. You've got to let me go, NOW.
The last word comes out as a growl as she yanks her arm away. The officer and several onlookers back away as they realize what is happening. Fiora clenches her elongating teeth and balls her growing claws into fists as she tries to hold back what's coming, but it's too late. The only thing she can think of to do is- run.
Not now, please, not now! is her last thought as pure animal rage clouds her mind.]
Fiora! /)' 3'(\ Or should I say. FIORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!
[Not that far away, there's a merperson slipping on a motorcycle helmet, ready to leave town. He's up for a good ride while it's quiet, so he starts up his bike and accelerates--
--before someone runs out onto the street in front of him. Holy crap! Swerving to avoid her, Crow's bike skids to a stop a short distance away.]
Hey! You alright?
eheheheheheheeee
Hunched over, with fawn-colored fur sprouting all over, she lets out an angry snarl and glares at Crow fiercely. If looks could kill, well, this one was at least a firm come at me, bro.]
no subject
Well, if she wants a fight...]
Going ugly on me? Bet you're slow, too!
[He's on guard, ready for some kind of lunging attack to close the distance between himself an her, prepared to hit acceleration on his bike at a split second's notice.]
no subject
Lunging is exactly what were-Fiora does, because man, she really just wants to tear somebody's throat out right now and Crow just had to go and taunt her.]
no subject
The sea isn't far away.
He turns his head to yell back at her.]
You missed? From that range!?
[Trash talking is a Free Action! He's gonna ride ahead of her, slow enough that she can keep up without dropping too far behind, but fast enough to keep just outside of what he estimates her lunge range to be.]
What kinda lousy hunting dog are you?
[Hopefully, he'll keep her mad enough to continue following him.]

FIORAAAAA!
[By some miraculous coincidence, the person Fiora has pulled aside is a short, fat, forty year old man with a thick beard and a... questionable taste in vest. However, the scar-bellied person wasn't really confused with why a stranger was grabbing him. He was confused with why Fiora was grabbing him]
Owwwwww! Riki don't like being yoinked in this body, Fiora. Riki's body not as squishy.
[Wait for it...]
Fiora! You here!
MIGHTY HEROPON!
...Riki? Is that really you?
[How? What? Why? Is this how everyone felt when they first saw her Mechon body? They took it much better than she thought!]
We both look a lot different now, don't we?
BRING ALL THE XENOBLADES TO THE COSMOS
[That grin and that wink cements it, even if the rest of his appearance didn't hint at it enough.]
Yosh! Very different! Fiora and Riki looks like Homs!
Ohhhh... but Riki not as lucky as Fiora. Fiora look very pretty!
Don't tempt me (please tempt me)
It's easy for me to forget we haven't known each other that long, huh? This is what I used to look like, before I got my Mechon body. But thank you, Riki! That's such a nice thing to say!
I wouldn't call you unlucky. Think of it this way: now instead of a heropon, you can be a hero-Homs! [She leans in and lowers her voice.] And just between you and me, I think you may even beat Dunban for that title!
Shulk would be thrilled to see you and there's meeee *nopon body wiggles*
[Longer equates to fluffier and therefore better. Like that idea she just shared. His eyes grow wide with delight and he looks around, as if expecting Dunban to appear any second to take that idea away. Then he giggles.]
Ooooohhh... Riki like that. Riki be herohom now! ... Ohh... But Riki can't. Me no have Biter. Can't be hero and beat bad monsters without Biter.

Four
He can't hope to catch up to her on foot - a werewolf can outrun him any day. But what he does have to his advantage are wings and the fact that he knows this city well, so Yusei takes to the skies, cutting across the rooftops and into an alley, where he waits for the werewolf to get close.]
This way!
[And hopefully, she's still lucid enough to hear him and trustful enough to follow.]

SHOUTS INTO HANDS!!! FIOOOOOOOORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
[Shulk is making his way through the streets, vest slung over his shoulder after a bout of training. That is, using wind to push him forward as he leapt from rooftop to rooftop. He'd like to think he's gotten pretty good at using the boost to accelerate himself, who knows how well that'd help with crucial head-starts in a fight or chase.
He's mulling over these things, gaze trained on the ground, when somebody grabs him without ceremony to pull him aside, and he lets out a small yelp.
Yes, can he help you...stranger?
His gold eye is wide, wide, wide - the other sealed shut by scar tissue - and the harpy can hardly believe his ears. Doesn't want to almost, because no, no, she can't be here! And yet, no matter how much he blinks, she remains, just as she was before she had returned to them in her Mechon body. It's like a dream...or a nightmare.
Time seems to have slowed, in that moment, though to her it's probably a stretch of silence that goes on a few seconds too long as he gapes at her openly. Some passersby find it amusing - it looks as if this monster has been starstruck. And maybe, he is.
In all this time, he'd been convinced he'd never see anyone from home again, and not once did he think of what to say, if he ever got that chance somehow.]
F-Fiora...?
[Is all he can choke out.]
VIBRATES
Kansasthe Bionis anymore, she did now. And then Shulk spoke her name.]...Shulk...
[What happened to you? is what she wants to say, but her mouth moves and no sound comes out. She just saw him laying comatose in Junks, and yet, here he is, standing right in front of her, like nothing happened. Well, no, something had happened to him, all right. Feathers, talons, wings and his eye... that was scar tissue. That wasn't something that popped up overnight, but that was impossible, it couldn't have been more than a few hours since she last saw him!]
Shulk ... are you... is it really you?
[Is this a dream? She's a Homs and he's alive. What's going on.]
no subject
He swallows hard, when she says his name. He's not sure how to process this, struck by a tumble of emotions and feeling as lost as the day he arrived here. As lost as Fiora probably feels, in this moment, with the way she's staring and struggling for words herself.
He's elated to see her. He's sad to see her. He wants to snarl and curse the fog god for bringing her to this awful, awful place. He wants to embrace her and say nothing at all. He wants to spill his heart and tell her everything. He doesn't want her to be afraid.
Her question jerks at his heart, pulling him out of his reverie. What should he say?
Shulk opens his mouth, closes it.]
Would you...believe me, if I said yes?
[He's watching her intently as he says this, his gold eye soft. Winged arms slack at his sides. The only qualities of his that remain unchanged are his face, his voice, and his messy, flaxen hair. Even the curve of his jaw is interrupted now, soft blue feathers lining it, dotting his chin.]
no subject
[She lets out a giggle and throws her arms around him.
SO...SOFT...??Fiora is the last person who could judge anyone else by appearances. She longed so badly to hear his voice again, it was all she needed.]Linada checked you over and said you would recover, but you wouldn't wake up. Nothing anyone did would make you open your eyes. I called your name over and over, I was so worried.
[And now she didn't have to tell him the truth. About what would happen to her without Meyneth's Monado. As ashamed as she was of keeping such a secret, it felt like a weight had been lifted.]
I'm making a fool of myself, aren't I? I'm sorry, I'm just so relieved....
[In more ways than one.]
the gut punches dont stop
He's still in her hold at first, overcome with shock. This is...she's real. If any doubts were left, they're gone, and he wraps his winged arms around her in turn, mindful of his claws. It's...just like she was, before her Mechon body.
As much as he'd rather stay here, in this moment where time is still suspended and he can pretend everything is okay, he can't. And what she says...he doesn't remember anything like that. Linada...wasn't she more Fiora's medic than anyone else's? What had happened that he'd have been brought back to Junks, unable to wake? Why doesn't he remember?]
Fiora, what do you mean? What happened?
[He pulls back a little to look her in the eye, shaking his head emphatically.]
And no, no you're not. I...I was worried about you too. All of you.
[Does she remember Zanza? The tricky thing about her being a Homs again is that he can't tell exactly, where the fog god has dragged her from. Of course, he's so convinced of his fate, it doesn't occur to him that what she's just said, what it could mean...it's right there, hanging in the air.]

Four - Wow what happened to three?
And humans hate being told off. It's just that this one human's rage is a bit more visible.
AM had stuck to the corner, trying to stay more invisible as to not draw the ire of the shopkeeper. As a massive thing with a spider's abdomen, the humans certainly fear him.
It's so disgusting and yet so entertaining to watch this girl succumb to her anger, violence begetting violence. While AM may have stepped out of his corner now, none of the humans seem to notice him, for he's not causing an abrupt scene like this. Not until he starts to laugh at the utter predictability of this whole thing.]
shhhhh
What do you want?
no subject
Fuck this shit I'm outnot to potentially throw their lives away.AM is unfazed by all of this. What a stupid girl - she'll probably be the first one slaughtered by an angry mob of villagers. At least AM is nice to them; that is, he only kidnaps them in secret.]
I find it amusing to watch your helpless transformation.
I know you're fairly new here, aren't you?
no subject
Why does it matter to you?
If you're done having a laugh, just let me get out of here- Rgggh!
[The last thing Fiora needs is to get angrier, but AM is making that difficult. Enough hair sprouts around her shoulders to give her rising hackles, and she hugs herself in an attempt to hold back further changes.]
