Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[ A reunion she really wishes wasn't happening. It's incredibly uncomfortable for a number of reasons, and she's not sure if she would rather talk here or somewhere more private. But...well, at least here he isn't really able to try anything weird, like hypnotizing her or something.
She waves away the people with the pamphlets; she's well aware of her--and everyone else's--situations, and doesn't need any more strange, often inaccurate information. ] Uhh--yeah of course! We're great, obviously.
[ She sounds almost unsure, though, her hand going to her shoulder. She sighs. ]
Look, Gideon. Maybe you should try reading some of those pamphlets instead of doing the whole psychic thing. This place isn't really all it's cracked up to be, you know?
[Yeah, he's starting to get a... bad feeling about this place, now that she mentions it. Any place that's got pamphlets appealing to werewolves, well, sure that could be a joke, but... not a very funny one. Especially if there's a bunch. One'd just be faking, but six or eight?]
Well, that's great to hear! [But he can fake it with the best of them. Sometimes, anyway.]
The folks here seem plenty friendly to me. [They're sure quick to give him stuff. That's a perk in his book.] But I guess a little bit of reading's in order, huh? [no reason he can't hate it here and make a little bit of money, though, is there.]

[The crowd here in Vandare is nothing new; it was just this bad when Dipper first showed up, with townsfolk doing their best to welcome and educate despite probably being terrified of every new arrival. For whatever reason, he keeps getting pamphlets thrust at him despite being very obviously halfway through his changes (and it seems the info is just as inaccurate as ever), and before he knows it, he's lost Mabel in the throng of people.]
Oh, boy... Mabel? Mabel!
[He weaves through the crowd, continuing to shout for his sister, until he notices a more densely-packed group. That's weird -- even if there were a lot of new arrivals clustered in one spot, there wouldn't be that many Vandarens trying to give them pamphlets...would there? Dipper makes his way over, and thankfully it's easy to get people to scoot out of the way when you have giant horns to act as a buffer. Once he gets close to whatever this crowd is gathered around, he catches sight of Mabel's sweater--]
Mabel! There you--
[--and a horribly familiar ugly pompadour.]

[Great. Is Gideon what this crowd was about? It figures that he's here five minutes and already trying to build some kind of weird cult following. (Unless of course he's just a part of the crowd himself and not the focal point, and Dipper is just assuming the worst of him...haha, nawwww.) But seeing yet another person from Gravity Falls here just reminds him of how different he is, and he is suddenly painfully aware that Gideon's first comment to him is probably going to be some jab at his horns or something.]
Mabel, you haven't seriously just been standing here and talking to this guy, have you?
[ There are no words for how grateful she is to see her brother right now. He's always so much better at handling these situations than she is, since she has a hard time finding it in her to be straight up mean to people unless she has good reason to. And while yes, she has a good reason to be mean to Gideon, he's not really...doing anything bad right now? So being rude would just make her look bad, especially in front of all these people. ]
It's not like I wanted to. [ He just pulled her in again, and she would have felt bad just telling him to shove a sock in it. ] But he just washed up on shore and there's all these people here, you know?
[ Maybe Gideon does have magic powers. Creepy, attention-grabby powers that make complete strangers like him. ]

Way too easy to fall down a rabbit hole of mixed metaphors and who-tried-to-murder-who and whatnot. See, this was why crowds came in handy. Prevents you from just ditching the box and getting in fights. Which, really, might not be very reassuring, coming from him.]
Oh! Well isn't this a surprise! [It sounds fake as hell, and doesn't that just eat at you the most?] You know, I almost didn't recognize you, boy! [He's doing it on purpose, he has to be.]
These folk're just helping me get acquainted, ain't that kind of 'em? [Horns, huh. Not sure if that's a good look for him. They might be kinda sharp, too, and we're gonna need a way to deal with that, aren't we? And if that's happened to that kid, well. It don't take a fake psychic to put two and two together, now does it?

Trust me, Gideon, they're not doing it out of kindness. [In fact, some of them have already dispersed now that a monster has shown up. Dipper does note that they all have pamphlets, some of which have made their way into Gideon's hands.] But hey, keep reading those. They're definitely helpful.

Won't even care, either. Sure, these townsfolk are probably just afraid, more than any kind of charity, but, well. Since when has that stopped him, ever?]

Oh yeah, absolutely in handy. Right about a month from now.
[As someone from his world, he probably should be a little more concerned that Gideon not...get eaten or mauled or all the fun stuff happened to Dipper his first few weeks here. But come on, it's Gideon. He's put the twins through way too much for Dipper to feel sympathetic for him now.]
That's not even made up, it probably will be pretty much exactly a month.
[ Mabel nods, trying to be at least...a tiney, eensey bit helpful. So her conscience doesn't come back and bit her later. Gideon's a creep, but no one deserves to be completely unprepared.
