Javert slowly and tenderly gave his temples a good, vigorous rub. A skeleton. He was certain he heard that correctly, about as certain as he was that the thing in front of him was covered in feathers.
"I am going to walk," he rumbled lowly. Damn the laudanum. He did not intend to go to a clinic where a skeleton would administer medicines. What else was left to him but to pick a direction and keep walking until he fainted from exhaustion? He had nowhere else to go. He had no idea where on the map he ended up (Germany? Sweden?), if it existed on any map. He owned no property here, possessed no bed or shelter. And to make matters even better, he was surrounded by creatures that belonged only in a child's nightmares.
