I can't say I've seen any proof of people watching from beyond the grave. Maybe they do. Maybe they just don't where I come from.
Even then, though, punishment or not, you can always take it in stride. If it's something you deserve, then there isn't much to be done but find some new purpose in it. If it's not, well...
