TEST DRIVE MEME: SEPTEMBER

Welcome to the Ryslig Test Drive Meme! Below are a few prompts to get you started, but you may make up any prompt you desire! Please take a look at the navigation page for rules, setting information, and links to reserves and apps. Have fun!

SCENARIO ONE
You wake up on the beach thoroughly drenched with your mouth full of sand. The salt water causes various cuts and scrapes on your skin to sting and the sand isn't helping. The air is slightly humid, ruining any feeling of refreshment you might have gotten from your dip in the ocean. There are lights in the distance but the unfriendly scent of gunpowder fills the air. If you're lucky, you're alone. If not, you might find yourself staring up into a pair of monstrous eyes or down the barrel of a local's shotgun.

SCENARIO TWO
So you've just arrived, and already some of the natives are trying to get on your good side with offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes." Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky, torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO THREE
"Seek us out," the voice whispers in your head, and before you have time to question it you've found yourself in someplace entirely alien. Maybe it's the Fog God's ghostly town of Dyster, where exultant followers dance around bonfires and sing their praises to the skies above. Maybe it's the Fourth God's arcade, with small robots wheeling about amidst the lights and colors of old pinball machines. Only one thing is certain: you are not alone, in this sacred place.

SCENARIO FOUR
The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

"I can actually taste with it," Mycroft says. "It's disconcerting...but admittedly interesting, on a purely scientific level. I can only hope we don't run across any particularly foul smelling things soon."

The tongue flicked out again.

That was going to take some getting used fo. Mycroft tried to start slithering again, clumsily. "How many other snake people have you met?"

A pause and a slightly horrified look. "That's...appalling. Best of luck to you that you don't get that particular."

Hey, most beings that exist outside of space and time are jerks. It doesn't sound as crazy as you might think, Waldo.

"Join the club. Believe me, I'd've----I'd be long gone by now if someone hadn't taken all my shit. But hey," he turns and gives Waldo a reassuring smile and a amiable punch in the shoulder, "Maybe we'll get lucky and find whoever took it, or---or those world-hopping fish people. What do you say?"

[A mercenary, then. Kaz doesn't say those words exactly, but there's only so many things an "independent" soldier can be. Medic knows this for a fact. He is, of course, in the same boat himself. They have something in common. The missing limbs make more sense now, as do the strange cataracts Medic catches sight of (heh) out of the corner of his eye, a sliver of milky glass that stand out against the shadows cast from the man's sunglasses.

Interesting. He could learn a lot from this man's broken body.]

That's tacky. [Well it is!] And if that's the case, they're in for a long wait! I don't ask for help even in the best of times, nor do I need it. I'm the one they should be asking for help.

[It's pretty much his job. And no lie, he's pretty damn good at it. In response to the question being asked of him, Medic hums thoughtfully.]

It's a rather long story. I suppose the simplest answer would be that I, like you, work for myself. My current team is in a bit of a...eheh, what you'd call flux.

[Because Medic killed them. Well, the most important one.

...Okay, so Heavy killed him. But he helped out! Doubtful anyone would've gotten that far without his well-timed help.]

[Max is right. The closer they get, the more... off it seems. Definitely not your average, modern-day town. It kind of gives her the creeps, if only because it's like they've stepped into a slightly alternate universe.]

Yeah... the fuck?

[Chloe rolls her shoulders, trying to ease the tension creeping up. For all she knows, they might just be a little behind the times. That's possible, right?]

It's probably fine...

[Her shoes make a light clacking noise as she steps onto the sidewalk now that they've reached the town.]

"We can discuss my virtues later." It was possibly a joke, but Light wasn't going to go into details about his personality while a man's body is being ripped apart when, all else aside, Mycroft likely couldn't less. It was hard to think past the pain that would be racking his body.

"I'm coming closer. As a faerie, I have the ability to create rings, which can teleport us. I can't use it if I don't have a connecting ring already placed, but if you can give me your address, I'll take us as close as I can to your apartment, and physically help you inside from there."

( It's a directionless anger, one aimed not at the helpful stranger, but the pain that consumes every nerve in his body.

Due to his royal status, Noctis is accustomed to help. Even if he made no difference between himself and the 'commoners' of his land, he was awarded bodyguards to make sure he was always safe. It's that reason that he doesn't feel too suspicious of a stranger helping him in his weakest moment, though it was also true that Noctis has little to give here, little to take. )

Tch!

( The prince often internalizes his real emotions, and he tries to hide the full extent of the pain, but the magnitude makes it impossible. Noctis reaches for cloth, skin, or anything that might be within reach and grasps with more force than he intends. It's meant to be some kind of outlet, some small attempt at controlling something. )

[personal profile] breaksthewheel 2017-09-14 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
No, I've not seen these monsters.

( Her green eyes travel along Craig's form, as if looking for proof of his words and finding none. She would have assumed he meant savages or something of the sort, but he used the words 'transform at night', imply the changes were more physical.

Despite being petite, Dany straightens her back and clasps her hands in front of her, somehow managing to exude power. Being Queen has given her a lot of confidence.

No, earning the title is what gave her the confidence. )

I have no proof of your words. Before I am to follow you, tell me where we are going. I need to return to ... ( Dragonstone doesn't escape her lips. It would give away her identity too quickly, and she was physically powerless right then. ) Winterfell.

[personal profile] breaksthewheel 2017-09-14 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
You are telling me some of these are real?

( The look in her eyes is obvious disbelief as she looks back at the pamphlets. Despite the obvious connection to her dragons, it's nearly impossible for Dany to believe Raynie. )

I rarely fear what I do believe, I won't waste fear on these tales.

( It's not impossible, of course, considering the White Walkers and her own dragons, but the existence of some creatures doesn't make all the stories real. )

[Kaz doesn't seem all that offended. It is what it is. He dwells, but simultaneously he doesn't expect sympathy. He expects people to see endurance.]

[Except right now. He can't expect much with such unsteady paws.]

Hunting too, I guess.

[Which means he knows how to hunt them, which is more than Kaz knows. There's nothing more despicable than being at a disadvantage.]

What the hell do we do? [The tone would have been a grumble even if it weren't for his voice coming out of a fanged mouth.]

[He's never heard of a Vandare and he's been a lot of places. Even considering a "Van" as the first part of a Germanic town name, the second half is still bewildering.]

[As for being "not horribly far", it feels like miles.]

[Miller turns and looks towards the stranger in the ocean. Just to verify that it is indeed a mermaid he's seeing. And, yes, it seems to be some sort of Cipher produced mermaid that claims to be acquainted with him.]

[Yeah. This is a bit much, even for him.]

Who occupies Vandare? What nationality? [What language...]

[He would claim that it's more complicated than that, but a business of mercenaries is indeed still mercenary, isn't it?]

[When the Medic says "Tacky" Kaz twitches the faintest hint of a smile. An expression that's become a rarity for that once beaming face, but he's still pretty amused by that analysis anyway.] If I had it my way, they'd be asking you for a lot of help by the end of it. I don't exactly like being left prone. They even took my damned crutch. [They might as well have purposefully taken his pride. He already has enough bad experiences being left to flounder.]

Maybe you can tell me the story later when we're not in dire straights, eh Doc?

[Besides, the guy has a nice voice. The accent is something. It's actually doing a good job of steadying his personality even if that first introduction was a little unsettling.]

[It's definitely a mermaid, his tail splashing occasionally underneath the water. Not exactly the beautiful type, but he's there.

The question gives him pause for a moment.]

Ryslig...ian?

[He's never really put much thought into what people who live here are called, having never really heard one say much beyond the city in which they live. Hmm. But, either way.]

Vandare's been split into two, a monster... tolerant side and a human side. Don't even think of going over to the human side. They'll shoot you on sight, and while I'm sure in other circumstances you'd be able to defend yourself... well.

[He leaves it at that.]

Of course, most people prefer Bavan, but that's a lot further away.

"Really? I guess after all those other changes, your tastebuds and neurology are pretty small stuff." He peered closer, sticking out his own tongue and mentally comparing it.

"Hm, there's the kid at the funeral home and someone named Fiddle...I think?"

Butters shuddered. "After the whole wanting to drink blood bit, that would be nothing. I like walking, but having to relearn it wouldn't be the worst."

He takes the amiable punch, though he's not feeling up to bro-punching back.

"You had a way out?" That's the important thing here. "When did it go missing? Any idea who stole it?" His eyes narrow and he looks ready to track down the miscreant.

Bavan. It's a city near here.

[He can tell that she's someone important, at least where she's from. Here though, it doesn't matter. Boone will treat her with respect, but he won't go beyond what he'd normally do for someone.]

Never heard of Winterfell. Sorry. Got a feeling you're a long way from it.

[personal profile] thumbsdown 2017-09-14 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... we could leave him alone. He might find another monster then, though. Death isn't permanent here, but it's probably still not all that great to go through. And I doubt he'll talk to us. We can try, but if he's armed he knows exactly what he came in here to do.

[He looks conflicted, knowing that the easiest route would be to just kill him. Do humans come back? He never asked. He doesn't think so. But his stomach growls at the thought, and he has the decency to look ashamed for a moment.]

Not sure I'll ever get used to this. Wanting to eat people.

[Noctis' hands find the cloth of Boone's shirt, but he doesn't pull back or make an attempt to free himself. He doesn't think he could, even if he wanted to. So he just stays where he is, though he's mindful of those spikes and where they're starting to poke out. He doesn't feel like going home full of holes.]

You might have to let go if I hear anything. Just letting you know.

[He trusts that he understands that, even through the pain.]

[Raynie nods approvingly. It's a good attitude to have, especially in a place like Ryslig. And she can hardly fault Dany for not believing – when Raynie was a newcomer, she assumed monsters were just unfamiliar Beastkind and paid no mind to the locals' stories. Only when facing a loved one from home turned monster, did she realize the truth.]

Some are real, yeah. [She gestures to herself, like she's some kind of proof.] I wasn't always a gargoyle.

"I'll be straight with you, Waldo: Last night's kind of a blur. It could be anywhere by now."

Kel'Thuzad | Warcraft

[personal profile] archlich 2017-09-14 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
one :

{ To be honest, the pain wasn’t what roused him. On all fours, Kel’Thuzad spat mouthful after mouthful of sand back onto the shore below, heaving in choking breaths as much as he could handle in-between. His shoulders trembled and his eyes must have looked wider than gold pieces as he stared at his hands-his clammy, fleshy hands. As he tasted the salt and dirt, as he felt the necessity to breathe. Oh, if he still dreamed, he’d have thought it a nightmare but that was the problem: how long had it been since he had slept?

Kel’Thuzad brought up one of his hands to push back his sodden gray hair-greatly to check that it was, in fact, there-before a wet, shuddering laugh escaped him. }

Oh, gracious. No good, no good at all.

{ A hundred thoughts crossed his mind very much at once. A curse? A slip between realms? Something… weird with his phylactery? Regardless, this was no good at all. He felt heavy, winded, and distinctly unsure how to use his legs after not having had a pair for so long. He’d have taken his time considering his situation and remembering how to stand-if not for the crunch of (what he assumed were) shoes on the sand nearby. When they stopped, he made his assumptions and did his best to sound as collected and poised as he could manage.

Only to wince at how ragged, shaken, and old he sounded. }

I’d keep my distance, stranger. Unless you care to explain what has happened to me.

three :

{ To be frank, the feeling of this Dyster place was pretty lovely.

He had such a soft spot for cults, after all.

Plenty spooky, with nightfall bringing the sort of dusky grey that orange fires just cut right through, air nice and thick with cold atmosphere, it was damn near nostalgic. Kel’Thuzad tugged his cloak all the tighter around him, absently wishing he had a good bovine skull to wear for the occasion: it might just be in-style here, right? But it’d distract from his sneakiness (probably).

Devoid of cow craniums, he slipped between desolate buildings to continue his snooping. For the sheer number of said buildings, he couldn’t help but think the place was a bit empty. Not that he was complaining, it added spectacularly to the feel. Specifically that he’d let his guard down too far and, consequently, he might just be being watched. What a delightful thought, it would just be a shame if it weren’t true.

The very moment he thought it, he found he would absolutely not be disappointed. Someone, it seemed, had been keeping an eye on him after all. Caution to the wind, Kel’Thuzad it most appropriate to appoach the stranger. What’s the worst that could happen? He could die? How rich. }

Pardon me, pardon me, but are you a local? I have so many questions.

{ There was a reason poor Bertolt couldn't shake that feeling.

The time Kel'Thuzad had spent in this strange land had just barely been enough to figure out how to walk quietly again. So he had, wandering past sea grass and along the bay looking for, well, anything. Or anyone. The gentleman looked young, though haggard, and-even sitting-very tall.

He took a moment to observe him more thoroughly, particularly interested in how his clothes were torn. Strange, and certainly not intentional. In fact, though the young man was-for all sake and purpose-very normal-looking, he seemed entirely out of place.

Cobbling up his assumptions, Kel'Thuzad spoke up from just behind the boy. He did so hope it'd get a good jump out of the sprout. }

[He takes monsters to mean clones, or parasite soldiers or whatever chimera creature Zero must have come up with here. It's close enough.]

[He doesn't really want to get shot in the face when he can barely walk, and he doubts he'll make it to this Bavan, wherever the hell that is. Nothing to pull the wind from his sails than having to hobble unaided by a crutch.]

[But there's a sizable branch. That'll have to do. He goes over towards the grass near the edge of the sand, reaching for a salt-dried wind-broken branch. There's still a stick jutting out of the side, but he doesn't exactly have a lot of options.]

How do you tell which side is which? Outside of someone pointing a gun at you?

...Are you also suggesting that I'm a monster?

[It took him a moment.]

Oh, not yet. That's later.

[Yep, just casually drop that there like it's no big deal.]

But generally, it's pretty obvious who isn't from around here. So anyone who's an outsider, they'll treat like they've already changed. It used to be worse.

[But there was all this fighting that he was totally involved in and that's why he ended up sticking around in the first place. Along with the whole being near the sea thing and everything.]

It'll be easier to get into the right side in the first place. The other one's a bit blocked off. But, you know, I suppose I can help if you need it.

[Look, maybe watching him struggle with the branch is a little painful.]

[Here she was, one of the deadliest warriors in the galaxy, stranded on some podunk planet in the Bumfuck, Nowhere sector. She shambled along the beach, limping as sand leaked out of her metallic joints; once they were some of the most advanced cybernetics in the galaxy, but now they were only functional enough to force what was left of her meat and flesh across a desolate beach.

She stopped when she saw a figure on the beach, and stared as he forced himself out and broke out into laughter. Nebula tensed when he spoke, and responded with a step forward and a sneer.]

I'll be asking the questions around here, old man.

[Seriously, did that geezer really think that he could threaten her? Well, okay, maybe he wasn't a geezer. Maybe he just came from some alien race that happened to look and sound like they were on the verge of collapse at any given moment, regardless of age.]
