Ryuk | Death Note

[One]

[Some new arrivals are assumed to be monsters already and thus don't get barraged with the constant bullshit of misleading pamphlets and well-wishes; it's too late after all. This new arrival is well over six feet tall, broad shouldered and otherwise unhealthily thin, and could pass as human if one really wasn't paying attention. But his eyes are red-pupilled yellow, his long spidery fingers still end in short claws, and when he smiles - which is often and uncomfortably wide for most people - the array of sharp peggish teeth on display is anything but human. Too late for the welcomes and flattery then, he MUST have begun changing. Not too late for glares and mutters, but those are being ignored. There were other things to do, like watch other new arrivals be accosted by humanity in one form or another and watch what happens to them with interest. Some yell in denial, some get angry, some just accept all the 'friendly helpfulness'.

Not one has really caught Ryuk's eye yet. Humanity was interesting but this bunch so far really isn't. All this about turning into monsters sounded like nonsense but now and again there was an inhuman shape in the crowd, and everyone could certainly see him, so something interesting was going on. And interesting was right up his alley. So what if it had changed him too, so what if he had a pulse or was breathing? It was new, it was definitely not boring.

But he himself isn't doing much interesting, merely lurking against the wall of an open alley, eyes on a pair of young people with a handful of pamphlets, black lips twisted into a grin as they eye him uncertainly, clearly wondering if he's worth approaching.]

Whatcha got there?

[Four]

[Frankly, Ryuk didn't have any interest in what he was becoming, that seemed almost obvious by the black feathered wings that had sprouted rather painfully (and that too had been interesting) or the way his hands were rapidly growing scales. But other people, there were others in this foggy dark night changing, becoming something else, and the horror and pain is a fascinating lure that sends him stalking like a crooked vulture through the city, seeking those poor unfortunate souls.

They're out there, after all. And there's some humans looking too, with weapons and angry noises, but he's not interested in them.

He's interested in the changing monsters. And as soon as he finds one he's going to settle somewhere nearby and watch with unblinking, unsettling interest, just like the scavenger-bird he was beginning to look like. Anyone will do, really.]
