TEST DRIVE : MAY 2016 EDITIOIN

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.

  • The Reserve date is MAY 20ST 12:01AM EST.
  • There is an Enable Me / App this Plz to see what some people are offering or would love to play.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

I'm not actually going to—

[Raidou rolls his eyes, exasperated. Not that the man's fear isn't understandable, since he's obviously new and may or may not even be from a world where monsters exist, but it does make it more difficult to relay the actual information he's going to need.

Should he track the man down? It wouldn't be that difficult, given that he's got his scent, knows the city far better than he probably does, and can fly. On the other hand, perhaps someone more human would be better - assuming he can find someone more human who's actually willing to follow him, which is by no means guaranteed. Raidou sighs. He might as well do the honors himself, preferably before the man gets himself hurt somehow.]

[Oh man, oh man, oh man, that was a manticore. Shaggy knew manticores, there'd been a manticore back at Creepy Spooky Terror Lan... no, wait, that hadn't been a real manticore. It had been Hot Dog Water. With, like, super helium or something that let her fly.

Shaggy's spinning legs grind to a halt. Right. That hadn't been a real manticore either, just some weird guy in a mask who would have got away with it if it hadn't been for that meddling... him. Nothing to be afraid of.

He'll just stand here wheezing for a moment.]
capital_asset: (Really?)

[personal profile] capital_asset 2016-05-24 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
[It doesn't take too long for Raidou to find him, which is probably fortunate for the man, however much he may not believe it. Better Raidou than a human with a pitchfork.]

Are you all right?
dogissues: (ohhhh |)

[personal profile] dogissues 2016-05-24 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Like, I guess?

[He's kinda hungry, but running does that. Actually, he's always hungry.]

So, like, um...

[He's staring at the manticore guy expectantly.]
capital_asset: (This seems dubious.)

[personal profile] capital_asset 2016-05-24 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, he seems calmer, at least. Whether that means he's actually calm or he's just snapped is another question.]

What is it?

[He'd almost asked him if something was the matter, but that tends to lead to less than helpful answers.]

[personal profile] dogissues 2016-05-24 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Like, you can take your mask off, now.

[He'll just reach over and help you with that.]
capital_asset: (I just work here.)

[personal profile] capital_asset 2016-05-24 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
[And Raidou will reflexively reach out and smack him with a wing.]

Zoinks!

[That hurt.]

Sorry...

[...ish.]

2crack: (whatever)

[personal profile] 2crack 2016-05-25 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well yeah.

[Though he thinks of it with one less L.]

But heroes go to Valhalla, where everyone feasts and stuff all day. Kind of boring if you ask me, but people seem to go for that.
cryogenics: (☣ Daybreak.)

[This was not the reaction he'd been expecting. The first part, sure, but not the rest.

He stared at her a little like a deer in headlights for a moment before he could find the words to say anything.]
Um. I don't know. And it works fine.

Considering the alternatives are even more dated, it has to.

one;

[Being very curious while also inherently trusting isn't a great combination for this fantastical new setting, but at least he appears to be taking it in stride. Unfortunately, however, these traits hardly lend themselves to the pile of pamphlets sitting on the ground around him--he's procured a pen from someplace, and he appears to be marking up the pages.

Once a teacher, always a teacher.

Actually, what he's doing is a bit more analytical than it seems--he's cross-checking the pamphlets for obvious contradictions, which, all in all, is pretty darn smart. On a less-smart note, there's nothing yet suggesting that he isn't going to become a fur-bearing trout, so he can't comfortably rule that option out. Worrying.

Yes, this is somehow more worrying than any of the other pamphlets. Snake people? Minotaurs? No, the real threat at work here is fur-bearing trout.

Instead of, you know, just asking around, he can be found sitting cross-legged in some far-off clearing, surrounded by scores of sheafs of paper. It's a strange portrait of serenity, in its own way. Kinda.]

I don't think I'm a hero. Killing is bad.

[ Yet he's done it. ]
foolishwren: I'M CALLING THE POLICE! (HENRY! Is that a WEED?!)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2016-05-27 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
The woods!

[Even if the people chasing him hear it, it wouldn't matter. The humans don't dare enter the forest unless they're feeling really ballsy these days. Back in the beginning, Heather would have called anyone crazy for telling her that the woods were probably the safest place she could be.]

[But it's true.]

Keep running, we'll lose 'em in the trees!

Enjoy your legs.

[She ignores the first question for a moment, returning the smile and nodding as Jessica takes a sip.]

Have as much as you need! I mostly carry it for other people, anyhow. You never know when a bit of water could save a situation. I ran into somebody who was developing fire breath and having a drink of water gave her enough control not to start a forest fire.

[She laughs a little nervously, mostly because she knows where the conversation is about to go because she can only ignore the question for so long.]

Another great side effect of being a victim of magic is that it changes your tastes a bit. Namely, it makes you a bit of a cannibal.
furnidents: (they did what to my book?!)

[personal profile] furnidents 2016-06-01 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[A brow quirks at Tayler's words.] A forest fire? Fire breathing? Oh my. [She doesn't really have anything to follow that up with. Her head still spins with all this new information.

She has noted that her first question was ignored and is about to say something when the young woman continues. However because she is still trying to make sense of it all she almost misses the best part.]

Well of course, I imagine tastes and other things would change given all of the other transfo- [Her eyes widen in both surprise and a touch of horror.] Did you say cannibal?
pixiecopper: (could you not)

[personal profile] pixiecopper 2016-06-02 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
[She laughs again, still a little nervous, and nods.] Yeah, it's like an adventure every day here.

[And for half a second she thinks Jessica will breeze right by the meatiest part of that statement, but no such luck.]

Yeah, unfortunately. I'm sorry. There's not really a way around it either. Believe me, I've tried. But if you don't do it of your own will, you lose control of yourself and you do a lot more damage.
furnidents: (what did I step in?)

[personal profile] furnidents 2016-06-02 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, still in a state of shock.]

But- but...how? There are clearly people here and they don't appear to run at the mere sight of you.

[A touch of hesitation.] Unless only some of us turn and the rest are used for...[She doesn't finish and is trying to figure out the best way to escape. She can't out run her, her best hope is a distraction. She drops the water bottle in a seemingly clumsy movement. If Tayler goes for it, Jessica jut might get the head start she needs.]
pixiecopper: (would rather be literally anywhere else)

[personal profile] pixiecopper 2016-06-02 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Unfortunately for Jessica, Tayler doesn't go for the bait, rather caring more for the obviously distressed lady than the water bottle spilling out onto the sidewalk.]

Mrs Fletcher, are you all right?

[She reaches for her gently because she can't quite tell if she's just panicking or if she is going to fall off the bench.]
furnidents: (I put my hands up in the air sometimes)

[personal profile] furnidents 2016-06-02 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, so much for that. It doesn't look like she'll be saved in the nick of time by Amos, Seth or any of the other police she's come across.]

Yes. Well, no. No - how am I supposed to accept that I've been brought to this place against my will, having no knowledge of where it is, and accept the fact that I'm either going to turn into a monster and eat people or be eaten myself?!

[Strategy is gone, all that is left is incredulousness and righteous anger.]
pixiecopper: (tenterhooks)

[personal profile] pixiecopper 2016-06-02 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Tayler winces a little, though more in sympathy than in fear or pain at the turn of Jessica's voice.]

I know, it's a lot and it's horrible and it's really hard to get your head around. Believe me, I actually threw up when I found out. I wish I had something better tell you, I really do.
furnidents: (you've stumped me)

[personal profile] furnidents 2016-06-02 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
But-but surely people have revolted, fought against all of this? Found some way around it all. This place cannot exist - it must be a dream, a terrible terrible dream. [Even as she says it she knows she's wrong and as much as she hopes she'll wake up on the train going to New York, she won't. This was real.

Her next words are weak, she's running out of straws to grasp at.]

Is there any way out of here? Anyone to protest all of this to?
pixiecopper: (well he was a bully)

[personal profile] pixiecopper 2016-06-02 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
[With her wings folded flat down against her back, Tayler settles onto the bench beside Jessica with a deep, apologetic sigh.]

I wish there was. But since we have no control of the changes and if we try to hunger strike we lose all control of ourselves, it's hard to stage any kind of civil unrest. But we're doing what we can. We're trying to learn more about the creatures that call themselves gods who claim to have brought us here. It's hard, but it's all we can do.
